The outrage regarding his antics is also not widespread. It’s mostly a social media thing. Most people are more curious if he’s dating anyone and going crazy about him looking hot and being affectionate with Llorente. I think a statement would be great but I don’t think it’s that much of an issue to the point where people would genuinely want to throw hands at him. I’ve seen more comments about him being gay with Llorente than him being right-wing which is something that mostly girls with Barca players as their pfp focus on. His teammates also don’t seem to mind him much which I can imagine they would if he was an anti immigration, racist right-winger. I’m not trying to defend him cause he is being irresponsible right now but I genuinely believe that a huge chunk of this controversy stems from the fact that he’s always been disliked and most Barca fans hate him so people easily jumped on the occasion to really blow it out of proportion and make him world’s worst person to justify their disdain.

I completely get what you’re saying and I can see how Americans are taking this a bit more intense or harshly than others? I also didn’t know that this was just a social media thing as this is something I’ve been seeing a lot, but that could also be to my own little sphere of what I see and Trump commenting on it, which uh unfortunately does bring it out a bit more in America.

I will also like to add. I don’t want to come off as hating Ferran, even if I’m acting a bit harsh towards him. I’m just disappointed because this is a topic that does affect me and seeing someone I really do like and support, and supported for a while inadvertently prop up that message and not say anything is depressing.

I'm very sorry but I think for my own mental health I am not going to continue indulging in this, I have an opinion and I explained in a long post linked in the pinned post why I am so hurt so... sorry if I come out as bland but, you have all my opinions and reasons in the important links in my already mentioned pinned post.

I really want to try and enjoy the team without actively being reminded or consuming new 'content' about this that won't change my opinion (which is not supporting and trusting him anymore until he actively speaks up, apologizes and fixes his mistake), it will only hurt me and worry me more.

I'm sorry. I hope you all understand my position especially after reading the mentioned pinned posts. I will continue to be informed but at my own pace and I will talk about it when I feel it's necessary or when I feel I am ready to offer new words. I just feel so overwhelmed with all the information in just two days.

I think you're right and I usually tend to agree with this take, but I also think it's stupid and naive to expect all the situations to be only black or white.

I do agree that it's important to speak up, and I always praise public figures that use their platforms and privilege to do so, but I also think that in public environments and especially ones like football, not everyone has the gut to be loud about what they believe in, given all the consequences that follow. Do you think all the footballers are homophobic? And yet only a few have the courage to actively speak up about it, same with racism, misogyny and everything that goes against the patriarchal values football is very much rooted in.

When I said I wanted to give Ferran the benefit of the doubt (I'm guessing this is what you are referring to) it's because we know only a tiny bit of what these public figures want us to see, again both for positive and negative stuff.

So yes, I'm gonna judge what I see (and I did if you go read some of the posts I made and reblogged in the past few days), but I still don't know what these people do with their lives when the doors close, so I'm not gonna start witch-hunting just because of things I can only suppose.

I honestly don’t think Ferran is a bad person, nor that he actively wanted to support any right-wing idea with that hat. Yet, at the end of the day he is a white, straight, rich and privileged man and he will act like it. I don’t think he really cares about politics, and he probably genuinely thought it was just a silly joke and wordplay.

it's obvious this behaviour bothers me, because as a "normal person" (and even more as a bi young woman) I live everyday on my skin how politics can affect my life and the one of people around me.

the second thing that bothered me is that Ferran has showed many times in the past that he has a good heart, but he is still stupid enough to not think (or care) about how his actions are perceived by people, especially now that the spotlight is on him.

I've never idolized a famous person, even less a footballer, and I’m old enough to know better than doing so, but children and teens may not have the same wisdom yet, so it’s easy for them to look up at him like he is this hero that can't do anything wrong. Not to even think about grown ass adults that will use this to promote their shitty idea and propaganda.
