Bohemian Rhapsody resparked my endless love of Queen. I lived through my entire childhood with their music, didn’t listen to anything else in my teens and respected them deeply as an adult. I didn’t listen as much to their songs as I used to before, though.
But Bohemian Rhapsody really made me realize how much of a connection I feel with this band. How after 25 years on the planet, I can still sing along to every song and each one moves me in a different way.
And while listening to all of their songs again, I come to realize that after so many years, I understand many of their lyrics on a whole new, different level now. Lyrics I’ve sung a thousand times, seen in an entirely different light. That’s mental.
Freddie, Brian, Roger and John are like life-long friends that have always meant a great deal to me and the movie reminded me of that. Their quirks, their bullshit, their musical brilliance. Honestly, I was grinning through the whole thing and was actually crying when Freddie had to tell his mates about his illness. And man, am I happy that Bohemian Rhapsody got younger people to meet the four men that have basically created the soundtrack to my life.
Go see it, people. Whether you are an old Queenie or new to the band: maybe you’ll (re)fall in love with Queen as much as I did.
