in the days leading up to the funeral, the city itself seemed to slow. the air stale, the neon lights cutting through the darkness of the streets too harsh, too bright. something is coming...
just wanted to make a little heads up post for everyone here, i know things are slow because everyone is super busy right now, but i’m really committed to keeping wake going, so if you guys are still game, so are we! we want this to be low pressure so there’s not a strict activity limit, but we would love it if you would let us know if you’re going to be gone for longer than a week (with a date of return) just so that we can have an idea!

no one is really certain who organized this whole thing, but at some point someone––the gcpd? the other vigilantes? citizens?––blocked off the streets surrounding gotham central in the financial distract, the tower that houses the bat signal on the roof, and began a sort of vigil for the city’s fallen hero. hundreds of candles, hundreds of bodies squeezed together, some there to mourn, some there to watch the spectacle, some there for more devious purposes. hundreds and hundreds of gotham’s citizens all in one place? it’s a recipe for disaster, no matter who you ask.
this is the perfect time to cause a little mass terror. or the perfect time to have a little fun in the empty streets outside of the financial district.
either way, something is coming tonight. and all of the vigilantes are on their toes waiting.
surrounding the wake...
so far, no one has questioned the identity of batman, as if death was the only thing that stopped the questions, at least for now. the wound is still too fresh. it would be insensitive to start speculation so soon, especially now when gotham’s greatest concern is who will keep them safe now? there are whispers of a new batman. gotham is familiar with batman’s flock of friends. maybe one of them will take care of things. there are already fan theories sprouting up on reddit, hashtags such as #nightwing4bat trending on twitter, and countless arguments being made online.
the gcpd is worried. corrupt as they are, they know that the fear that batman struck into the hearts of petty criminals and rogues alike was enough to keep the city from completely falling apart. the corruption only worked because they were still safe. no longer, though. some of the worst of the worst have escaped from blackgate, and it seems like they had help from the inside. on the other side of things, mayor daniella danforth is terrified for her own life, but has managed to keep the latest mass breakout from arkham asylum quiet from most of gotham, even from the vigilantes.
things must start moving forward, and it needs to happen tonight.

this is just a bit of context for the current situation gotham is in and a good place to start with threads! not every character has to be at the wake, of course, so not every thread has to take place at the wake itself. threads concerning the first missions (and any other initial open starters) should take place the night of the wake or within the days immediately following it, though, just so that we’re all starting at the same point in time.
you’re welcome to do past threads at any time, though, if there’s something you want to explore that has happened before the wake!
we’ll be sending out the first round of missions after this post goes up. some characters will only get one message, some will get several. and more specific missions will keep coming as characters work together and find more information, but we won’t be announcing when those are coming, so keep an eye out as threads move forward!

there’s nothing as important to the rogues as land. streets are divided up down to the block, with encroachments on others’ territories being seen as personal slights. and now that the joker is gone, over all control of gotham is up for grabs, and no one seems very keen to keep respecting the claims that were decided on before things changed.
of course, some territories are safer than others, and they’re all run in vastly different ways depending on who has laid claim there. but that’s never really stopped anyone before, has it? the safest claimed neighborhoods are those that have been claimed by vigilantes, the fashion district and old gotham, but who knows how long that will be the case...
