You know what? I’m fucking tired of playing along with this actually. No. “Cis” people don’t use they/them pronouns. To be cis is to stick with your assigned gender. If you are using they/them you have transed your gender! I’m not going to tell you in what way specifically because your specific gender is for you to decide but definitionally you are not cis at this point!

Stop trying to cling to cisness and just embrace the fact you’re fucking trans! Cowards!

With the Galsei subtext approaching critical mass, is the Deltarune fandom ready to acknowledge that Kris probably wasn't "born non-binary"? I get it, I get the appeal of that fantasy, but Deltarune is a game with a lot to say about gender and Kris, as a non-binary teen in a pretty cisnormative place, is part of that.

Mancountry. The pizza deodorant. Watching your dad do bonding activities that are for "the pals" and "the boys" only. The way the weird route puts Kris into the role of Groom in an abusive partnership, bestowing a ring onto their childhood friend in a white dress.

It doesn't invalidate the character, or anyone else, to pick up that there are gendered expectations placed onto them - even if it's not explicitly said by another character, there's a spectre in the air around all of those things. And that spectre is coercive gendering!

(of course, there's plenty to be said about how people are averse to really acknowledging the existence of non-binary transfems, and how "humans are just born without gender" is kind of a copout from having a trans protagonist in a story that heavily touches on identity, gender and dreams)

Idk how to say this but like, problematic as it was, the insinuation that most anti gay republicans were secretly gay took the wind out of the sails of social homophobia in the late 2000s and gay marriage was legalized soon after that phenomenon peaked.

These regressive movements are fundamentally dependent on enforced amnesia about their targets, and actually hitting them in the face with the fact that they themselves are involved in the lives of LGBT people in ways they’re trying to stigmatize has proven to be an effective tool against that. It has disgraced individual politicians in the short term and in the long term it makes opposing LGBT rights get perceived as a costly liability by power players.

Um, like, I’m not really trying to say whether people have a right to be offended or not by certain jokes but calling attention to this sort of thing *is* demonstrably effective at disrupting antiqueer movements and to me that’s more important than whether it’s problematic.
