Regarding the fact if Vincent loved o!ciel or not has been brought up in the chat! Letâs look into it a little.
Iâve read this section of the manga quite some time ago, so feel free to correct anything I mightâve missed or mixed up. I will also be taking partial examples from other blogs, all will be credited ahead of time.
Firstly I must say that I find this all quite ridiculous. As weâve heard from the creator herself that Vincent did truly love and care about his family.
O!ciel did suffer a lot of unfairness do to his fragile health as weâre constantly reminded of. Although people fail to realize that him missing out on certain events was precisely because Rachel and Vincent didnât want to risk his illnesses getting worse. Indicating some amount of care for their son. Even nowadays parents would do this if they found it absolutely necessary. It varies between people and ďżźtheir lengths of concern.
When O!Ciel was already rather sick with a fever, Vincent appeared visibly concerned.
I 100% agree that the situation couldâve been handled a little more fairly, as it was clear he was upset he could not attend the event. But this alone should not determine oneâs love for their child. And at that degree, Rachel would be accountable too.
Another factor to include is that R!Ciel and Vincent had much more bonding time than O!Ciel and Vincent did. Only making it perfectly normal and understandable that theyâd have a closer bond. It doesnât mean Vincent loved o!ciel any less, that itself is only a matter of assumptions based off a few chapters.

In conclusion I think Vincent loved all of his family very much. Yana gives us little to work with when it comes to Vincent, so the ideas and conspiracies are only normal. Though o!ciel may have been left out a bit because he lacked stronger health. We cannot claim Vincent cared less for him especially if all was done to protect that frail health.
Vincentâs bond with r!ciel is stronger so it does cause him to favor him more, but his love for his younger son shouldnât be so second-guessed.
Do correct me if I am wrong, but I failed to notice Vincent ever directly calling o!ciel a âspare.â
It was brought up when Frances referred to him as one, but even then it was through pure concern. None of them ever treated O!ciel as if his ONLY purpose in life was to be a spare to his brother. He did feel that way time to time, and I do think they shouldâve caught on and corrected it.
But had he better health, I know heâd be at R!Cielâs side 24/7 playing. Like said before, the actions were taken to prevent further sicknesses.
Vincent called off the trip in ch99.5 when his wife got sick but didn't insist to do the same when O!c got sick. That should tell you there's indeed a difference between how he treats his wife VS his youngest son - at least. I get that O!C begged them to go but did they really need to? It's a fricking trip. Vincent can make time for another one when O!c is able to join.
He glared coldly when Ciel declared stopping studying. Like dude, he's seven - most kids at some point rebel against studying, what was so offensive about it for him to give a dead glare?
I have no doubt he doesn't favour any of his sons over the other. Ciel just happened to be an Earl material and combining this with the previous point; it seems like it was Vincent's priority. Us failing to find any bonding time between him and the youngest is due to O!c's shy and reserved personality. The only person he bonded with besides his brother (who more or less always initiated the moment) is Tanaka because it's easier for a spare who FEELS like a spare to be more comfortable with a servant than an Earl, his wife and heir. They all seemed beyond his leagues to him - especially Elizabeth (Yana wasn't discreet in showing that.)
He loved Rachel, he wouldn't die with her in his arms otherwise but I am not sure about his sons. Especially Ciel. Because sometimes when you want to fit your son in a role, you forget the "son" part and only focus on the "role"- even if you love him. And the ring scene hinted at that.
It doesn't matter actually what yana says about "love". Lizzy loves Ciel, Ciel loves his brother, Undertaker loves the twins and now Vincent loves his family?
Yeah but which one of the above can be considered a healthy, not self-serving love? He might have "loved" them but I have no doubts he was a terrible father.
Iâm not sure if anything said was necessarily done against my own words but allow me a response now.
I did point out Vincent shouldâve been more fair. I mustâve missed the part where he did so with Rachel, and I can agree that wasnât very righteous of him.
Secondly though, the glare. Iâm not sure if itâs really an accountable proof to show that he âdidnât loveâ his sonsâŚas it is only a mere glare. Even nowadays people can get frustrated with their children. Moments like these happen, they are normal. A certain look for one little moment shouldnât declare an entire relationship. At the very least, lashing out wouldâve counted. But no harsh words were said.
I really donât think a few chapters should be all it takes to decide oneâs relationships with each other. Of course your opinion is very valid! And thank you for sharing, because as said, it is a matter of perspective for each person.
Vincent is a mysterious man and regardless of our opinion it would be nice to know more on him. ďżźďżźIâm not saying heâs the best father ever, I wouldnât even say heâs good. But my point was, there is definitely some love for his children there.
Now to say, Ciel felt this way with everyone. Around Vincent, Rachel, R!Ciel, even Lizzy. Meaning we should hold everyone accountable then? Of course no, especially since two are children his age.
It was a different era, much more different than the one we live in. Thoughts/actions and relationships were MUCH different. Not necessarily making it right, but as to say, I cannot change history. Thank you for leaving input though; it is appreciated.
