Vrozling Chapter 2
Soon the abandoned building came into view. The building didnât look too bad, as in it wasnât rotting and falling apart, but one could tell it hasnât been used in quite a while.
Hmph what a dump..â Cyril muttered, wandering inside and looking around. It looked as though the building was once a medical facility of some kind, the front waiting area leading through rusted doors to different rooms, each containing a few beds and questionable medical equipment.Â
âCreepy as hell.â Reign added to his comment kicking open a rusted door it snapped off its hinges and fell with a muffled thud. In the room heâd opened were three old hospital beds lined up with torn curtains between them and one overturned with claw marks on it.Â
Walking over to one of the beds Jack carefully placed the person down and got them to release their grip on his jacket.Â
âWe should get them patched up quickly.â Jack stated. âSounds like my kind of job!â Sam said enthusiastically. The group turned to look at Sam, all confused and somewhat concerned.
You?â Reign muttered, raising an eyebrow skeptically. âWhat are you going to do? Put a grenade in him?â He asked rather sarcastically though part of him thought Sam just might do exactly that. Sam just staired at Reign for a moment before speaking.
âAs fun as that may sound, no, Iâm not going to put a grenade in them. I do have some medical knowledge You know.â Sam replied simply, as though it should have been obvious.
âSince when?â Cyril asked in a rather demanding tone, clearly having doubts about it. Reign was less skeptical and shrugged, trusting Sam since they were both destructive in nature and got along well.Â
âSince I was young.â Sam said with a bit of annoyance. âMy father was a doctor so I learned a bit from him. Plus the high school I went to was pretty cool, I was able to take a few medical courses before going to college, where I planned to further my knowledge in the medical field.â He explained.
âThatâs awesome man why didnât you tell us sooner?â Reign slapped him on the back, it was his rough version of a friendly pat on the back. Cyril just huffed and stood with his hands on his hips. âActually, while you do that I should look around some. Hey Tim you wanna come help me find some more beds to bring in here?â He offered, not wanting to go with Cyril but not dumb enough to go alone.Â
Timothy jumped a bit, his mask going from the worried magenta to a surprised blue-green. He looked at Jack before looking back to Reign and replying.
âU-um, sure I guess.â Timothy stuttered a bit.
Reign nodded and waved for him to follow. âLetâs go then, let me know if you see something useful or questionable.â He instructed, leading the way out of the room. The newcomer shifted and groaned in their unconscious state curling up there was blood soaking through their coat onto the bed.Â
âTime to get to work.â Sam said after Reign and Timothy walked away. He suddenly paused and turned to look at Cyril then Jack. Jack nodded and cleared his throat before turning to Cyril and speaking.
âCyril, why donât you stand outside the door. You know, in case something happens.â Jack suggested.
Cyril didnât have a reason to say no but gave an annoyed look regardless, standing guard was no fun afterall. âFine.â He said with distaste, turning up his nose and leaving the room.Â
The newcomer coughed roughly, gritting their teeth and groaning as the old sheets absorbed the blood from a wound that looked like a giant claw mark. The injury showed no signs of stopping and the person was clearly in much pain from it.Â
Getting started Sam quickly removed the personâs clothing leaving only what was necessary. He began a quick but thorough head to toe assessment, checking for possible internal damage.
There was a large gash across the newcomerâs abdomen, four claw marks that were thin but deep and stretched from the lower sternum to the naval. The right leg had severe bruising and was unnaturally swollen, the bone just below the knee was cracked and nearly broken. On the back of her head was a swollen bruise, showing that she had suffered a fall from a rather high place recently.Â
After assessing his patient Sam immediately went searching for the things heâd need.
âFrom what I got I need to find a neck brace of some kind, or even make one if I have to, just to be cautious of any neck injury. She may have a possible concussion so weâll have to keep an eye on her. Iâll have to stitch up the lacerations, and also find or make a splint for her right leg which Iâm assuming is a tibia fibula fracture.â He said mostly to himself, but also informing Jack. âI should also get her some fluids so Iâll need anything here that is the closest to saline, preferably not to far expired. Do you think you could look for that Jack?â Sam asked while continuing look for supplies.
âYeah.â Jack said and began looking. Although the language in this world isnât exactly English, Jack and the others have been here long enough to learn how to decifer most of it.
Meanwhile Reign had made his way with Timothy up to the roof, lifting the hatch before shutting it immediately and holding it closed.Â
âTim⌠listen carefully.â He said in a very quiet voice. âDonât make a sound.. but I need you to go get Jack, donât be afraid he isnât far.â He said, keeping the hatch held shut firmly in place. The fabric of his shirt slid down his arm as he held it up, showing the tattoo of his old gang on his shoulder that had been scratched up and scarred over.Â
