actually now i'm curious, what do y'all think vox would need to do to become a winner?
ie pentious was too afraid to act when he could have saved others, and was redeemed when he decided to forego his entire existence if it meant saving others. counteracting the core of that sin with its inverse. but we've seen a Lot more of vox's life and backstory than pen's, and simply inversing his actions wouldnt work - what kind of complicated ass hoops would he need to jump through?
I'm just spitballing here, but the existence of Hell’s rings implies that the seven deadly sins are the metric that all sinners are judged by. If this is the case, any sinner could hypothetically redeem themselves by embracing whichever heavenly virtue corresponds with the deadly sin that damned them.
For example, I would argue that Sir Pentious’s primary sin was Sloth, which would mean that the virtue needed to redeem him was Diligence. Like you said, he needed to reverse his failure to act by finally taking initiative and putting himself on the line.
Vox could be charged with just about any sin you could think of, but it seems to me that the sin that most defined his life was Envy, via his total inability to tolerate anybody being perceived as better than him in any way. That means that the primary virtue standing between him and redemption is Kindness. He'd need to start uplifting those around him with no regard for whether those acts of kindness benefit him personally or not.
One thing about this framework that I find really interesting is that it would probably be impossible for Vox to redeem himself through a singular moment of self-sacrifice like Pentious did. You can’t expect an envious ego-maniac to actually learn anything if they go out in a blaze of glory only to be literally immortilized in heaven by their "hero's death". That shit would make Vox INSUFFERABLE, like, worse than Adam levels of arrogance. No, I think any path to redemption for Vox would be long, difficult, and wholly unglamorous. He has to put in the work.
no babe i find your strange and creepy and perverted vibe to be very cute actually
I just noticed A Thing about this scene.
Charlie is angry here. She wants the Vees gone, Vaggi is supporting her in typical Vaggi fashion, and Charlie has taken on her demonic form in a threat display of her own. She has absolutely no issue with threatening the two if that's what it takes to make them leave.
We switch to a closeup on Velvette, during which she ends up on the business end of Vaggi's spear and Vox intervenes. And in the next wide shot, Charlie's attitude has completely changed.
You'd think she would still be on guard, or maybe relieved that the Vees are on their way out, but instead she appears surprised. Her defensive posture has dropped. And as Vox steers Velvette away, she returns to her normal form, looking even more shocked.
Something happened here which she did not expect. And it's not Vox's casual disregard for the incredibly dangerous weapon, because he's obviously wary of it; far more so than he was when it was pointed at him, in fact. And he just as obviously puts himself between it and Velvette, so it's no mystery why he suddenly decided to take the threat seriously.
Charlie set up an elaborate, sabotaged to be actually life-threatening situation so Angel could "save" Husk, because she thought selflessly endangering himself could be the key to redemption. And then one of the people who spent the entire day mocking her efforts went and did that like it was second nature. And then that same person immediately turned around and asked if she thought he could be redeemed like it was some kind of gotcha.
Like. Sir. You literally just showcased your most redeemable quality to the Princess of Friendship Hell. And she noticed. What did you think she was going to say? (I'm sure he missed her reaction because he was focused on Vaggi, but still).

thought i was almost done but then when editing i was like this needs a lot more stuff so this number that i thought was impressive is like...only half-ish of the first chapter asldfkjasdlfj
i realized i needed to torment vox in the first chapter more if ur wondering

so is there like an official map of the pride circle anywhere or something? bc i didn't realize sinners cant enter any of the lower rings, and if the exorcists have only killed "thousands" of souls, that means there are still literal BILLIONS of sinners populating hell.
we also know sinners dont all speak one universal language/common tongue after they die, since when niffty sang in japanese, even charlie didnt understand. which means the sinners that dont speak english are probably not living in pentagram city - so where are they?
are there different large metroplexes throughout hell representing the largest urban centers throughout earth/history? and, are the city's structures/motifs/aesthetics based on their own religious/cultural/folklore iconographies of evil like the pentagram? like are there evil versions of tokyo, paris, shanghai, delhi, sao paulo - ancient constantinople????
wait
they LITERALLY tv girl
the idea that you could have lived and died with no chance of finding fulfilling love bc turns out your soulmate is an immortal celestial being in hell who isnt human, has never been to earth, and may technically not even have a soul, and her entire existence is motivated by helping you reach your full potential decades after you were alive, and when you achieve that absolution and become the best person you can be for her you immediately become damned to never see her again for all eternity.
