I keep going insane over Pokemon and Pokemon characters and I'm drawing so much Pokemon religion because of it, it's quite funny.

Anyway the context is that I like to imagine a non "canon" scenario where instead of Volo disappearing at the end of PLA, he and Jirou stick together in weird codepedency because they're in the same boat. They both worked so hard for something, sacrificed so much for that goal only to be left with nothing. Volo with his desire to find Arceus and Jirou with his desire to get home from Hisui.

Now that Jirou's been blessed by Arceus, he's the closest thing to a deity Volo can get to. Even if Arceus doesn't turn its head towards him, Jirou does. And for now that's enough. So, Volo's going to be this deity's follower #1 and maybe someday he can convince Jirou to truly grisp that godhood and remake the world in a way Volo likes.

Jirou meanwhile has never felt more alone or abandoned in Hisui. Everything he did, everything he had to bear and push through, he did in order to get to go home. The idea that he would settle down now, live the rest of his life in the past and abandon his home, his brother, he can't even entertain the thought. Especially when he knows he's pushed away so many possible bonds in the favor of knowing that he'll leave soon.

So, Jirou turns to the man who Gets It, who's also hurting, yet offering his hand. Deep down, Jirou knows that Volo isn't looking at him, not really. Volo's looking at what he is, what's beyond him. But for now, that's enough. He can be comfortable for a while. If Volo wants to dote on him, he's going to be indulgent, while acknowledging that it's just messed up codependence and it won't last in the long run. He's just a little tired.
