My fanmade lore for Ashley from WarioWare:
Ashley Redmond was once a happy girl who had a family of her own. Tragically, however, on her eighth birthday, she lost them all in a house fire. The only thing that survived was her stuffed bunny, and even that had lost its eyes.
She lived in an orphanage for a year, and ran away because of the horrendous treatment she received. She lived on the streets for a few weeks and almost starved, but stumbled across a giant abandoned mansion.
Having no other choice, she took shelter in the mansion and discovered a giant spellbook. This was how she learned about magic; she was able to use it to barely get back on her feet.
But the trauma of her loss still remained, and her happiness faded throughout years of living alone in an endless house. She was also a target of bullying at school, which only made things worse. She became a husk of her former self.
And as a result, one day, she felt a tingling sensation in her head. It didn’t hurt, but it felt fuzzy; then, a clump of magic energy emitted from her head and formed itself into a small, imp-like creature. This being was one of happiness, curiosity and fear, almost that of a child. Ashley decided to call this creature Red.
A couple years later, Ashley received a letter from WarioWare saying they were now hiring. Red instantly loved the idea, and somehow convinced Ashley to join. And although she was closed-off and prickly at first, she’s warmed up a little bit to her friends. Just a little.
As it stands now, Ashley is still a cold vessel of magic accompanied only by the manifestation of her childhood happiness. She lives her life practicing magic, going to school, working for WarioWare and brewing potions…but this can’t go on forever. Repressed memories and emotions always come back, in one way or another…
