Nico was always enamored by the ocean, and one day he was telling Will that he wished he could go swimming but can’t because of the BiG Three feud. Percy overhears this conversation and brings Nico to Montauk, he spends about a half hour yelling at the waves, his dad is so resistant to allowing a child of Hades in the water, but eventually after he gives his signature puppy dog eyes, Percy gets his way. Will comes along too, because Percy’s ADHD does not have enough patience to teach Nico how to doggy paddle. Nico learns well enough, but at one point he whispers to Will that he is a little scared of the waves, Poseidon hears him, and since he has never seen someone be more excited to swim than Nico, he soften the waves and makes the ocean less rough for them. They have the best day, and as they leave the beach Nico runs back to the water and says to the waves “thanks Percy’s dad”
