Thought-provoking presentation. Especially the first 10 minutes on authenticity and karaoke culture (which applies to all aspects of our society) are, in my opinion, just spot on. So simply put in words what I am seeing around me in daily life. Authenticity is dead, long live the karaoke culture :( And in relation to that, the last two minutes, with a Q&A, Malcolm illustrates it more visually :D

Op dit moment loopt er op station Amersfoort (o.a.?) een proef met 'geselecteerde' personen, die hun OV-chipkaart kunnen gebruiken om te betalen bij de Kiosk. Door je pas of portemonnee langs deze spacey black box te halen, verkrijg je dus je koffie. Wellicht de snelste betaalwijze tot nu toe.

Mochten deze en andere plannen van de ns/prorail doorgaan (poortjes, internet, enz.) dan zijn de spoorwegen binnenkort een compleet afgesloten systeem met eigen transport-, communicatie- en betaalmiddelen. Ik denk niet dat ze een eigen energievoorziening voorbereiden uit de enkele m2 zonnecellen op Utrecht centraal, maar wie weet. Nu ik erover nadenk, hebben ze waarschijnlijk ook een eigen interne politie, boete-systeem, legio bewakingscamera's en mochten die je niet zien dan halen ze je info wel uit de database. De reizigers zien ondertussen de renderingen van artist impressions van toekomstige stations, sterk gemodelleerd op airport terminals waarmee de spoorweg-charme overboord wordt gegooid. Het lijkt me dat we hier toch op z'n minst recht hebben op een Crystal palace a la Hauptbahnhof Berlin. Dat je zegt: Do ist der..!

Tijdens mijn laatste deviatie van het systeem, waarbij ik trouwens wel gematst werd, vertelde de lakei van de scan-unit dat ze erg blij was dat ze nu niets meer kon. Het maakte haar werk een stuk prettiger. Ik hoop dat ze heeft geoefend op haar 'goedemorgen' want dat is binnenkort het enige wat ze voor de ontwakende reiziger kan doen. Verder zijn de spoorwegen een systeem wat mechanisch en rigide wordt, continu georganiseerd volgens de industriële principes van meer en sneller. Vandalisme en graffiti krijgen steeds meer sympathieke trekken.
