Thank You for Celebrating Pride With Us at our camp xx in east African camp name is xx for security due to our sexual preferences |We Need You to Keep Standing With Us*
Dear friends and allies in the Western world,
Today we celebrated Pride right here in our camp. Despite fear, scarcity, and stigma, we came together to honor who we are, and your support made it possible.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who donated to our Pride parade. Your generosity helped us create a moment of joy, safety, and dignity for LGBTIQ+ refugees who often feel forgotten. We truly appreciated your support.
We are writing to implore you: please do not give up on us, especially now.
Ebola outbreaks in the region have led UNHCR to put all resettlement processes on hold. That means our cases, our evacuations, and our hope for safety are stalled indefinitely.
We are still waiting. We are told to hold on until August to see if we shall be evacuated to safety. Until then, we remain in our camp xx here in east Africa facing daily homophobic attacks, hunger, and limited medical care.
We ask for more of your support to help us survive this waiting period β for food, medicine, safe shelter, and security.
Thank you for seeing us, for standing with us, and for not turning away when it gets hard. We survive because you do not give up.
