âShe was,â he whispered softly. âI would lavish her with attention all the time, and sheâll tell me, âValentin Halsburg, Iâm trying to focus, stop that,â Valentin mused, his voice going up to an almost high pitch while imitating her. âOr worse-sheâll threaten to sell my goat and make me bay at the moon for her if I donât.â he laughed before he stopped, nodding. âI would like that,â Val got up and started looking around for paper and a pen. âThen once I write it, I wonât sound like a moron and not say a random fact about anything.â
A corner of her mouth kicked up in a halfway smile and she patiently, silently listened. âSounds like an incredible woman,â she admitted, ignoring the hollowing pit in her chest. Digging in her purse, she found a few scraps of paper and a pen she was fairly certain would work. âYou talk, Iâll transcribe.â
