Natural Beauty TIp: The Oil Cleansing Method for Radiant Skin!
We’re back again with another natural beauty tip - Oil!
Keep reading
Oil Cleansing Method
It’s very important to cleanse your face each night. Dirt and make-up can clog up your pores, so your skin can’t breathe and repair itself. So to achieve flawless skin, you should cleanse each evening, because your skin does most of the repairing at night.
Now most of us cleanse our face with store bought product, which contain aggressive chemical ingredients. These can leave your skin feeling taut. But there is an alternative for these aggressive cleaners, which is the oil cleansing method.
Why Use the Oil Cleansing Method?
The oil cleansing method works this way: instead of washing your face with a soapy cleaning product, you use oil to clean your face. This may sound a bit weird at first. Many people will think that oil only makes your face more dirty, because it is a greasy substance, but this is not true. Oil will cleanse your face as well as any store bought cleaner, but it won’t strip the skin of its natural oil’s and it doesn’t damage the skin with chemicals.
As many people know, oil and water do not mix. When you pout water on oil, the oil will float on the water, as you see in the picture above. Now dirt and mace-up that gets on your face during the day, are also oil based substances. So they won’t mix with water. But many store bought cleaners are actually water based. So these products need to contain harsh ingredients, like sodium laureth sulfate, in order to clean. But these ingredients strip the skin of all its oils, not just the dirt and make-up, but also the skin’s own oils as well. Many people with oily skin may think “well, that’s a good thing”, but in fact, it’s not. Your skin needs these oils in order to stay healthy.
So instead of making a water based cleaner, which requires harsh chemicals, we can also use oil to cleanse our face. Like I just told you, dirt and make-up are oily substances. And water and oil doesn’t mix, but oil and oil does. So when you use oil to cleanse your face, all the dirt and make-up will mix in with these oils and your face will be super clean. But by using oil, your skin won’t dry out and get damaged by the harsh ingredients.
People with oily skin might be a bit scared to use oil on their faces. But there’s no need for that. You don’t have to be afraid of applying oil to your face. Oil, alone, will not make your skin greasy or cause break-outs. Pimples, cysts, zits, blackheads and whiteheads, are a result of several different factors including hormones, bacteria, dead skin cells and the buildup of these factors. Your skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. By not using regular cleaners, the skin will not be stripped of its oils, so there is no use for the skin to produce extra oil. Therefore your skin may even get less oily when you use the oil cleansing method.
How to Make your Personal Oil Blend
To cleanse your face, you first need to make an oil blend. The main ingredient in the oil cleansing method is castor oil. Castor oil is the oil with cleaning abilities. Castor Oil has potent anti-inflammatory properties, but is also healing and cleansing. That’s why this oil is ideal for the Oil cleansing method. But castor oil alone is really thick and strong, and is not the cheapest oil either. That’s why we are going to make an oil mixture. We are going to use sunflower seed oil to mix with the castor oil. This oil is a lightweight oil that nurtures but does not clog the skin, and it’s not expensive at all. If you don’t have sunflower seed oil, good alternatives are extra virgin olive oil, or almond oil.
Now we are going to mix the two oils together. The ratio between the two oils depends on your skin type. The dryer the skin, the less castor oil you should use. The following blends are just suggestions. My advice is to start off with the suggested blends below, try it for a while, and adjust the blend to your personal preferences. I made the dry skin blend.
Oily Skin: Try a blend of 30% Castor Oil to 70% Sunflower Seed Oil. Balanced Skin: Try a blend of 20% Castor Oil to 80% Sunflower Seed Oil. Dry Skin: Try a blend of 10% Castor Oil to 90% Sunflower Seed Oil.
How To Use The Oil Cleansing Method
Now that you’ve made your personal oil blend, it’s time to clean your face.
Take a bit of the oil in the palm of your hand. Rub your hands together to warm the oil, and apply it to your face. Now use your fingertips to massage your face. This will make sure that it loosens all the dirt and gets everywhere on the face. Take as long as you need to massage your face. You can just work it in quickly if you’re hasty, or take the time to relax while massaging the face. The longer you massage, the better the treatment will work, but it’s not necessary.
For the ladies who wear make-up, this method is ideal. We are used to first remove all the make-up and then clean the face. With the oil cleansing method, there’s no need for that. It removes make-up and cleans your face in one step, which saves time. So go ahead and massage the oil over your eyes. You’ll see that the make-up comes loose easily. Now you can take a cotton pad and remove the make-up in the area around your eyes. If you don’t wear any make-up, you can just skip this step.
Now take a sponge, wash cloth or a small towel. Run this under a hot tab. The steam will open up your pores and remove the oil. The Castor Oil, though it is an oil, will help with the removal of the other oils. It is our main cleansing oil and is easily removed with warm water. Cold water won’t work. Wipe the washcloth over your face, removing all of the oil. Now run the towel under the tab again and wipe the face again until all the oil is removed.
Now pat the face dry. Feel how clean your face feels. It won’t feel oily or dirty at all. But you won’t get that taut feeling either. Your face feels soft and clean. You can apply moisturizer if you want, but probably you won’t even need it.
Warning: it is possible that the first few days you use the oil cleansing method, your skin gets a bit confused by the change. This may result in more oily skin or breakouts the first day’s, because the skin is still used to getting it’s oils stripped. Just continue the treatment and see again in one or two weeks. Your skin should react better to the method now.

{ DIY } coffee cinnamon honey apricot scrub
Upcycle your used coffee grounds to make an all natural face and body scrub! You can make your own recipe or try this one! If you love coffee as much as I do, you’ll have enough upcycled coffee grounds to do this scrub on the regular! I do it 1-2 times a week to keep my skin feeling super soft and looking evenly toned and glowing!
Here’s what you’ll need!
{1 cup of upcycled coffee grounds, dried & finely ground}
{2 tablespoon of raw honey, melted}
{1 tablespoon of apricot kernel oil, or oil of your choice}
{½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon}
Ready to glow?
Combine coffee grounds with melted raw honey, apricot kernel oil, and cinnamon. If you have more sensitive skin, feel free to leave the cinnamon out! Mix well, and apply to wet skin in a gentle, circular motion. Leave for 2-3 mins, then rinse!
Why this scrub is super awesome…
Coffee is great for your skin for a number of reasons! First and foremost, it’s packed with antioxidants… which we all know are essential for healthy, young looking skin! Antioxidants are one of the main things that fight the effects of toxins and free-radicals that cause pre-mature aging and dull skin. The caffeine in coffee is also great for reducing redness, inflammation and swelling… which makes this scrub perfect for early mornings when your sleepy eyes need a little TLC!
Raw Honey… I’ll say it a hundred million times, raw honey is the ultimate natural remedy for beautiful skin! The antibacterial properties of raw honey heal and prevent blemishes… it also has a ton of antioxidants, so again, anti-aging power! It’s also extremely nourishing and moisturizing, so it’s perfect for sensitive or dry skin. Last, it opens up pores so they’re easier to clarify and detox/unclog… basically, raw honey is magical!
Apricot Kernel Oil is also a powerhouse ingredient when it comes to natural skincare. It contains lots of soothing, nourishing and moisturizing properties with it’s rich sources of oleic acid and Vitamin E. It’s ideal for sensitive and dry skin, and also contains anti-aging properties.
Ground Cinnamon draws oxygen and blood to the skin’s surface which help to clear and prevent breakouts and blemishes! A little bit goes a long way though so only use a teeny bit when mixing your scrubs. If you’re mixing just a facial scrub, or have sensitive skin maybe opt to leave the cinnamon out, or just use a pinch! The ½ teaspoon measurement in this recipe is intended for a full body scrub.
merci beaucoup
xxo,
Kelley
your face will thank you
There are few things I love more than a little DIY all-natural remedy. Especially when it comes to skincare. There are far too many nasty chemicals in most of the cosmetics on the shelf these days. Don’t get me wrong, I love make-up and feeling “pretty”, but I prefer to do it in as non-toxic of a manner as I can (Pacifica & Arbonne are some of my favs). So today, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite at-home facial treatments. These are so natural that they are completely edible (eh, maybe not the raw egg)— and truly good for you & your skin!
Avocado & Honey Mask:
½ of a ripe avocado
1/4tsp raw organic honey
Oatmeal, Honey & Olive Oil Scrub:
3TB oatmeal
1TB honey
1TB olive oil
Egg Yolk & Lemon Treatment:
1 egg yolk
Juice of half a lemon
^Use these treatments for skin so soft & fresh.. you’ll feel like posting a TOTALLY MAKEUP-LESS UN-AIRBRUSHED PICTURE OF YOUR MUG ON THE INTERNET :) (Ok, so I have leftover mascara on). Enjoy!
i no poo because i’m all natural and all that. i’d really recommend it!

18 Perks Of Being Single
1. You get all of the covers. You don’t wake up freezing cold while your partner is snuggly wrapped in the warm blanket, like an adorably inconsiderate mummy.
2. If you’re watching a terrible romantic comedy film you’re doing so at your own discretion. You wanted to watch License To Wed, and you take full responsibility for this decision.
3. Never experiencing lengthy deliberations about what to eat for dinner. It’s hard to hold discussions on an empty stomach, especially when its growls are drowning out the sound of your significant others’ voice. As a single person, if you want Applebees, boom, you get Applebees.
4. A large chunk of memory space is freed up because you aren’t filling it with anniversary dates or your lover’s trivial details like favorite flavor of ice cream, or their middle name or whatever.
5. Flirting is permitted and you don’t have to feel guilty or terrible for doing it. Bat those lashes; give that wink and the gun…
6. The ability to be as disgusting and lazy as you’d like. Eat in bed, garnish your sheets in a layer of crumbs, leave nail clippings on tables where coasters should be, don’t use coasters for your condensation covered drinks, makeshift the dryer into a dresser, only removing laundry when it is to be worn. It’s your world, be the filthiest of animals.
7. You can follow any scantily clad, completely inappropriate individual on Instagram/Twitter and not be questioned or criticized.
8. You’re the boss of your own oh-so-valuable time. Not assistant or co-manager, you’re the head honcho. You can distribute hours, minutes and seconds on things youvalue. That means fulfilling the activities you always wanted to do, like finally watching Breaking Bad so that you can be in the loop.
9. The option of doing whatever you please, whenever you desire is there. Obviously you can do things even in a relationship, but spontaneous trips or impromptu invites out can be attended without someone uncomfortably frowning upon your choice.
10. There’s no worrying about who’s attending their girl’s/guy’s night, why they haven’t text back, or if you should be concerned.
11. The tough decision of whose family will be visited for holidays doesn’t have to be made. And that’s a good thing because his/her family was okay, but one of their uncle’s tended to get hammered and become that bubble violating, overly friendly, touchy, feely dude.
12. Your web browsing history is under zero scrutiny. There’s no need to explain yourself, especially for the accidental typos. Like when you totally forgot the “ysis” on “analysis” and opened up a whole different can of worms.
13. You can wear whatever flavor of lip-gloss you want, and you don’t have to be bashful for the sake of somebody else’s disliking of gooey, bubble gum scented stickiness on their mouth.
14. That last slice of pizza is yours. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
15. Every unisex name in your phone contacts won’t be asked about. The fact that Jamie the gender-neutral friend won’t lead to an investigation should count for something.
16. Life altering decisions like job opportunities, or cross country moves can be completed without having to worry about its impact on two people.
17. The farfetched dreams of running into and falling in love with your celebrity crushes are slightly more fathomable.
18. Forced independence that will benefit you in the future. Being solo, you don’t always have a person for emotional support and the only option is to be strong for yourself. It’s like lifting weights. A girlfriend/boyfriend serves a spotter, but when you’re by your lonesome, the pressures on you. Get stronger or drop the weight on your chest.
