PROLOGUE - Is that truly a reflection in that mirror
Summary: When Humanity gets too curious, it never ends well, and what better ending than causing the fall of someone who had gone beyond and above to try and protect humanity? Yeah that sounds right.
Note - First writing post, I’m so nervous. I don’t know why- I’m posting this for myself.. but that’s besides the point-! Anyways.. if you do enjoy this then yippee! This is just a yapfest.. I think it’s clear I’m an artist, and not a.. writer.. aha..
“You're going to tell us all that you know of your power!” A masked male said, tugging harshly at black and blue streaked hair to keep eye contact with the girl on the floor. It had been 2 weeks of this. 2 weeks, and nobody had come to help her- she didn't even know if the others knew she was missing. She was sure she should have been dead- dead maybe days ago. How she was still alive, she had no idea.
“I.. I don't have to tell you shit- ack-!” She had countered before receiving a harsh kick to the stomach. Her hair was let go of, and she clutched her stomach. The pain was blossoming, and she had to hold back the tears.
“C’mon, guys. maybe spending another night in this place will.. persuade her.” The main attacker said with a grin, spitting in her direction before laughing and leaving the damp, cold room with a slam of the metal door. She wasn't sure what to do.. Maybe if she cried out to the deities.. that's it! She just had to ask them for help, and maybe she would be saved. She weakly held her hands over her chest, holding the charm attached to the necklace she had on tightly. Unlike most knowledge on magic, the magic was directly tied to the user's will. If a person's will was strong, they could catch the divine gaze of the deities who ruled their world from above. This will itself allows the person to hold onto and control the magic given by these deities- provided the person passes the test attached to these powers.
‘Please.. respond to me.. don't leave me alone at a time like this..’ They repeated in their mind, almost begging for something.. anything to happen. After a few moments, she heard the ringing of a bell in her ear, chiming 3 times. She immediately looked up from her curled-up position and forced herself to sit up despite the pain. Where she was expecting a deity, however, an angel stood in front of her instead. She had a confused look on her face for a moment before trying to stand. “E-Excuse me.. y-you have to help me! is there any way I can talk to Delilah-” She started before being cut off by the angel
“Saniya. By order of the Watchful Eyes above, you have broken the covenant and used your magic for evil. Not only this, you have told the secret of our craft which is forbade by what you have signed. It is by decree that your magic must be terminated.” The angels voice echoed as he brought his scepter infront of his face.
Saniya took a weak step back, a shocked look on her face. she hadn’t.. when- she never told anyone- she was innocent! She reached for her side, to try and grab her fan from her waist to maybe see the outcome, but it was gone. Her gaze flicked up to the angel, and there her weapon was- in the hands of the angel. “Y-you have to understand- I didn’t- please let me speak to Delilah.. o-or Ampoti-! Please!” Saniya begged, her tone desperate.
“I doubt they wish to speak to filth like you. Who do you think ordered your termination.” The angel said, and Saniya stood still, her breath picking up in speed as she tried to force herself to relax. There was no way.. Was this set up.. she could feel the questions piling onto her like bricks piling onto an unstable object till it crashed. She hadn’t done anything wrong. As she was about to explain, though, she felt a warm sensation surround her.
“With the authority vested in me, thank you for your service, but you are effectively terminated. May the tears of your fallen preserve your memories for the next generation.” As the incantation was said, Saniya immediately felt a pulsing pain in their chest. She cried out in agony, her body collapsing forward. She could slowly feel herself slipping, and it took one good knock to the head for her to go unconscious.
“It has been written, and it has been done.” The angel spoke as she laid unconsious on the floor.
Saniya couldn't remember what happened between that- well- couldn't remember clearly. Some days after a brutal beating, she would wake up with her body clean of injury and pain, but she could feel herself slipping. mentally, emotionally- all of it. She no longer begged, nor did she cry for her life. She was just.. hollow. She lost track of the days, of the time she had been forced to stay in this hellish loop. Instead of throwing herself a pity party, though, she became angry. Anger festered within her. Who did those deities think they were. Thinking they were all high and mighty because they had a special magic. Anyone could control magic- she knew that fact herself. It wasn't fair. As the days went on, 2 weeks turning to a month of silence, she had finally had enough. That stupid angel may have thought he took what she had- her magic, but no. He had just taken the first layer of it. Magic, once integrated into the body, never goes away. She grabbed the fan she had hidden in the floorboards the day she reawakened, and closed her eyes to grab some kind of hope that maybe- maybe her theory was right.
Nothing. She flicked the fan once more. still nothing. As she flicked it a third time, she could feel a cold sensation wrap around her arm and descend onto the fan. That was.. strange- her magic was normally warm and welcoming, but this… this wasn't. She looked down at the fan, and sure enough- film tape of moments threaded across the fan. The magic was hers, that was for sure. She looked at her hand and dropped the fan in shock. Her magic, which was a typical bluish hue whenever she used it, seemed to have left an impression on her arm. Riding up her arm was this dark-blue coloring, as if she had soaked her hands in dye or perhaps in paint. She was terrified, of course- who wouldn't be? She sat there in shock for a few more moments before going back to grabbing her fan. She didn't have enough time to sit there shocked. Her captors would be back any moment. She flicked the fan thrice, and there it was again, the film tape. She studied it carefully before hearing sounds upstairs. She had a plan.
“We’re back girl- Hey-!” The man cried out before a clean slice was administered to the neck. She stood up from where she had attacked, wiping the blood off the blade hidden by the fan. She looked at the faces of the terrified men and grinned with a smile not so human. She got.. a thrill out of this.
The room was silent in less than a minute.
“How messy.” She muttered as she walked up the stairs that led to the basement, where she was trapped for all that time. She put her hand on the door before opening it, and felt the sun hit her skin. she.. she was free. She really was free. She had to contain her laugh. She never believed that she would be freed.. Now all she had to do was- hang on.. she stood completely still as she realized something.
She didn't know anything past how to use her magic.
She knew she held anger for a higher life form, but… she didn't know what- or even how to get to them, though.
“Crap.. what happened to my memories- my.. They took them. I know they did!” She yelled to herself, her hands clawing at her hair. She couldn't remember anything past the time she had been trapped. She started to think before she heard some noises come from a little farther than her.
“Well, they wouldn't lie about something like that… something must have really happened to Saniya if they had to send the angel to look for her. I wish they had given us any information.. Then we should be able to find her faster. It's not like the angels can do anything.” A girl's voice said. Saniya recognized the voice- The girl was the Magical girl of the Stars; she had talked to Saniya before, but the two had never been close. “It wouldn't shock me that the watchful eyes know where she is, since they know almost everything. We are the last to know information anyway. Maybe they dealt with her, got rid of her, you know?” Another voice chimed in, this time the magical girl of fire. “Be nice! Shes.. shes probably around here somewhere- I feel the push of the energy from her charm- so she must be okay!” The magical girl of life said, stopping the conversation. The girl's voice was calm and composed, seemingly the only calm one out of the group of girls. The voices of the girls pissed her off. How dare those girls exist when the people who lead them are terrible? No, not people- demons. That's what they were. demons. She would cleanse the world of these.. these diseases. She made her way to the rooftop that the girls were on, walking slowly. The girls noticed her after a moment or so of her being on the rooftop.
“Saniya.. oh my gosh-! I’m so glad you’re okay! I was so worried and-” The Magical girl of life said before she was cut off swiftly. “Silence,” Saniya said harshly, and it caused the girls to visibly flinch. “You who are workers for the devils above. I will allow you to leave alive, for exchange of your powers.”
“Don’t make us fight you. Because we will.” The magical girl of fire said, holding her katana blade high in the air. The blade caught ablaze, and she brought it back down to a fighting position. Saniya scoffed as she held out her fan, flicking it thrice. The fan sparkled with magic as the Film Tape appeared. Instead of staying on the fan, though, it circled her as if taking control. She looked at the film roll before looking up.
“Give it your best shot.”
“Shit-! Cmon this way!” The magical girl of the stars said, throwing out lightballs of energy at Saniya to distract as the magical girl of life held the girl of fire on her back. The fight had started strong, with both girls trading blows, but Saniya had resorted to dirty tricks. She had attacked the Magical Girl of life, and to protect her, the Magical Girl of Fire had stepped up to protect her. Instead, Saniya threw a quick shift and the fan’s blade landed in the side of the Magical girl of fire, cutting deep before being yanked out. The girls couldn't do much without her; they hadn't been prepared to fight, nor did they want to. Now they just had to use their powers to escape. The Girl of the Stars created a ‘warp star’ to teleport the group away. Now they had landed in the house of the Girl of the Stars.
“We need to tell the watchful eyes. They need to know about this- maybe they can get her some help.” The girl of life said, her gaze flicking to the girl in front of her, and the girl on her back. The Girl of the stars nodded, taking her charm off the bow on her side before bringing it in front of the mirror. She drew a line in the air before making it a circle. After the circle was complete, the mirror swirled with a white shade before showing an entrance to another realm. The three quickly hopped into the realm, the mirror closing behind them.
“Help! Wheres ambustio!” The girl of the stars said as she led the three into the other realm, looking around for a specific person. Some angels at the entrance of the realm tried to keep the group outside until a voice boomed.
“What's the meanin’ of this?” The voice boomed, and the angels moved to the side to show the angry deity standing there. He was a guy carved by strength, his frame towering over the angels and making them look almost weak. His steps seemed to shake the ground as he walked over to the group. He looked between the three before speaking. “Your Delilah's kid- and your Ampoti’s kid.. What's going on ‘ere?” He asked before looking at the girl on the back of ‘Delilah's kid.’ He froze as he saw the holder of his powers barely conscious. The girl he had given his powers to wasn’t a pushover- that he knew- so how she ended up like this.. it didn't seem to be good. “..I’ll go alert the other watchful eyes. You both wait here.” He said as he picked up the girl from the girl of life’s back, before turning and making quick steps away.
As Abustio left with the Girl of Fire on his back, the two remaining girls conversed quietly with each other. Their whispers were quiet, quiet enough that it was impossible to hear what they were talking about without being right next to them. The two were alone for a moment longer before the mirror shimmered and two others stepped out. In total, there were 6 girls who were given the secret of magic and what it could do if unchecked.. well- were 6- now there were 5.
“We got a call from our watchful eyes.. is everything okay..?” One of the girls who just stepped into the realm said, messing with a nail nervously. The girl noticed the blood on the side of the Girl of life, and immediately froze.
“Whose blood is that.” The girl next to the nervous one said, her tone sharp. Attatched to her glove was an ice charm, and she held the tone to match it. Her tone was cool, but not enough to show distrust. Never to her friends. The girl of life took a breath, before explaining what had happened. The two girls infront of her listened to the explanation with horror-filled expressions.
“No.. no she wouldn’t.. there’s no way..” the nervous girl finally spoke, her hands over her mouth. She was silent for a moment before tears started to spill. The rest of the group went quiet.. they all never would have thought someone so quiet and so kind.. would become so evil. At one point, the Watchful Eyes seemed to walk over, hearing what had happened from the explanation given by Ambustio when he rushed in.
“Is everyone okay..? I’m glad we are all in one place.” Ampoti said as she walked over to the girls. Behind her, Dahlia was uneasy on her feet. She looked the girls up and down before taking a deep breath of relief. She was so glad everyone was okay.. “we heard what happened, and we never expected it to get like this. We understand that mortals can’t comprehend things they don’t have control over, but to know it ended up like this.. we can’t help but feel some kind of guilt that this falls on us.” Ampoti explained as she held her hands infront of her. She looked over to Delilah, as if expecting her to say something.
“Ah-! Right! Now, our other two siblings aren’t here, but! All 5 of us made a decision. If you all want, you can return your powers! It’s of course up to you all, but Ambustio’s kid already made her decision.” Delilah said quickly, smiling softly to the girls infront of her. She was trying to make the atmosphere more calm.
“..we’ll make our choice and tell you..” the girl of Life said, looking around at the other girls before looking up to Delilah.
“..let us know of your decision. We will honor whatever you decide.” Ampoti said before turning her back and taking steps away, but it was easy to tell that she was hesitant.
