The glory of their deeds shall echo throughout the world.

“I was-”
Gilbert let out a yell of frustration, before sinking back into an icy calm. Lips pressed firmly together, he spat out a litany of oddly accented German under his breath. His shoulders slumped in defeat- though his expression still held strong as he vented out his frustration, and reminded himself that, ideally, he should be shutting the fuck up and repressing those memories right back into their corner.
“What happened to me isn’t important.” Gilbert managed, finally, his voice shaking despite having taken a moment of silence to regain his composure beforehand. “It wouldn’t have even taken place i you hadn’t been dumb enough to think that they could be trusted.”
His voice was eerily calm.
Toris saw the shift in attitude. He didn’t need his strong nose to smell something wasn’t right. He still couldn’t help but feel angry. How was he to blame for what happened to this man whom he never met.
“Listen, maybe I shouldn’t have, but I was young, and they had made themselves seem like a safe place. They really tricked me, and seemed to go to great lengths to do so. I didn’t know I was going to be a little science experiment. I think any naive, scared teenager would feel the same.” he stated. “But, I don’t know what you want me to do about it. I know nothing about you, I didn’t ask to be tested on, but for the record, I’m sorry for whatever you went through, because of me.”
theroughtoughcreampuff:
“Yeah you’d think that.” He was calm now, nonchalant even. Scarily so as his red eyes pierced Toris’ gaze. “But, uh, now I’m stuck looking like this freakshow. Next time you should, uh, probably think before you give your DNA to some random organisation. But uh, just a tip!”
Now that got on Toris’ nerves. “Hey, do you think it was my choice to give my DNA out?” he spat. He seemed a bit angry at that. It wasn’t his choice to become a guinea pig for those cruel people. “How did you even get stuck with it, anyway?” he asked, seeming curious. He thought that the organization had disbanded, and he had no memory of them taking his DNA. A lot of things had been blurred from the fear and harsh conditions of the place.

“What- no?!” Gilbert snapped, shaking his head in disbelief. “I meant this whole thing!”
Hurriedly, Gilbert pulled out a knife, and sliced a cut in his hand. It healed almost instantly. “This is your stupid healing factor and I didn’t even get it right!”
Toris nearly tried to stop him from slashing his hand with the knife. After all, who was crazy enough to do--holy shit.
Toris stared in disbelief as he watched the wound heal up, like nothing had just happened. “That...that’s impossible.” he mumbled, wondering how the other claimed to have his powers. Mutants could have the same powers, right? It was just coincidence.

Shit, My Bad
huurlingtehuur:
It had to have hurt a bit. Honestly, that would’ve been true for ordinary humans, like he was pretending to be. At the speed and weight the other had crashed into him, it would’ve taken the wind out of a regular person.
“Still sore,” he lied. “Probably some bruising tomorrow.”
Maarten took a long drag of his cigarette. What could he do to make it up to him? He was’t expecting much, laying low like this, but it was hard to miss a chance like this. He pulled lightly on the rim of his blazer, evaluating the dirt and dust that had blown on it from the fall.
“I’d rather you pay for the dry cleaning.”
Toris nodded a little, feeling bad that he had hurt the other, even if the other was lying. “I’m terribly sorry. I hope it doesn’t cause much trouble...” he admitted, running a hand through his hair.
When he heard what he could do, he gave a simple nod. “I can do that, I don’t mind to pay. If this is how I can make it up to you, then so be it.” he stated, standing up a bit straighter.
theroughtoughcreampuff:
“You don’t seem fine, let me help you.” he stated. Granted, Gilbert just tried to kill him, but he couldn’t just leave them man alone. Even if he did have healing powers, it still hurts for it to heal.
“Stop being nice about it!” He snapped. “You did this.”
Toris flinched a bit when he was barked at. “Hey, I’m not the one that made you punch me.”
Shit, My Bad
Maarten stared a little. Catch his scent? Did he have something for that or he a dog- Oh no, there he was, smelling the air. Mutant, he guessed. Those were pretty common in law enforcement these days.
“Did the criminal smell that bad?” To expect to pick him up between smoke and cars and all that. Of course, Maarten was probably not helping much, standing there and having a smoke himself.
“Everyone’s got a natural scent. It’s hidden under soaps and perfume, but it’s still there. But even that can help someone out. He smelled like cheap cologne, and cigar smoke. Sort of trashy.” he stated, trying to see if he could find that man again based on scent.
“And he did smell...displeasing, but that actually helps me out a lot. It’s more distinct, since most people at least make an effort to smell somewhat nice.” he explained, wrinkling his nose at the smell of the man’s smoke. It did bother his nose, though he decided to let it go. “I suppose I’ll just have to go out and find him again tomorrow. It doesn’t look like he’ll be showing up anytime soon.” he mused. He turned to the taller man, and let out a sigh. “I’m really sorry for tackling you. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you? It had to have hurt a bit...?” he asked.
Toris’ grip was much stronger than Sheng’s, which wasn’t surprising. He didn’t get invited for being the strongest, no leave that to Mei. After a moment, he put his hand down and flashed another smile.
“Lithuania? I’ve never been there before.” He commented, taking a step back into the kitchen- it’d be a bit weird to just leave after introducing himself. “So… Why did you get invited or selected- I don’t know much about SCREEN, not yet at least.”
Toris let go of Sheng’s hand, and stuck his hand into his pocket, for comfort’s sake. He followed quietly into the kitchen, opening the fridge while he listened to Sheng talk to him, pulling out what looked like leftover food from the night before.
“It’s alright, it’s not a common country that people would know of.” he stated, grabbing a fork to pick at the food. “Hm? Ah, I was invited because of my abilities I was told. And, um, my history with them.” he explained. He held up a hand, showing the metal claws off from his knuckles for a few seconds, before putting them away with a wince.

this is the only love story i care about
Shit, My Bad
Toris felt a little embarrassed by his statement, though helped him up nonetheless. His heavy frame helped him stay grounded as he pulled up the blond. “Well, of course someone other than me.” he stated, trying not to be embarrassed.
He let out a frustrated sigh, upset that he had blown this mission, and failed. “I’m sorry for tackling you to the ground, and thinking you were the guy was looking for. I now realize that you’re way too tall to be the man I was chasing.” he stated, folding his arms in front of himself. He let out a sigh and went to go sit on the edge of the building, trying to think how he would have to word to SCREEN that he let the criminal get away.
Maarten brushed off his clothes a bit, rooftops weren’t known to be the cleanest place in the world. At least nothing seemed to be damaged.
He stared at the other for a moment…. was he just… going to sit there? Surely he had stuff to do? Bad guys to find? Not that it was really his business.
“… You not going to chase him?”
Toris turned a bit, and chewed at his lower lip. Well, he couldn't just sit there. Though, it seemed damn near impossible to track down the criminal. "I'd try to, but the air's so muddled here, it's hard to catch his scent..." he mused, though seemed in though, as if there was a sliver of a chance that it could be done.
He stood up, sniffing the air a few times, seeming more focused than ever. "It just mostly smells like smoke and car, and that's not helpful to me at all...." he piped up again, though more talking to himself this time. Now he was starting to feel a little worried.
not a pet person.
The smell was so unbearable that Kiku took in a deep breath and attempted to hold it for the duration of the journey to the next station. With his small lungs, it was nearly futile. This was the last straw. He could not be on the train any longer. “I’m getting off at the next stop,” he said weakly. “I’ll walk to my destination.”
And by walk, what he truly meant was walking as far as the public could be with him, and then immediately using the rooftops so charitably provided by public engineering. “Where are you headed?” he inquired.
Toris’ leg bounced anxiously still, needing to get away from that smell. It just seemed so overpowering, like there were cats all over him, or something. He turned to the other at the question, and shrugged. “I’m getting off at the next stop too.”
Now, he didn’t want to be weird about it, so he tried to think up an excuse. “There’s um...this really cool restaurant I’ve been meaning to try.” he stated, hoping that was good enough.
not a pet person.
Did the train stop? It felt as though, all of a sudden, the place just stopped. It was a good thing that Kiku was facing a little away from the Lithuanian dude, or else, his expression of pure horror would’ve been pretty damn suspicious. He exaggerated a few sniffs, tried not to sigh it all out, and laughed weakly. “I don’t have pets, so I really can’t tell the difference.”
What mattered at the moment was the actual source of the smell. There was unquestionably a dog on this train. And while the only ‘cat’ was him, he was concerned that the mutts would come running to him if they could sense it.
The train was about to open its doors, soon,so maybe he could leave at the next station to get out of the damned train. Strange, the dog seemed far too close for comfort, yet he couldn’t actually see a thing.
“Pets aren’t allowed on the train, right?
Toris felt the train stop, and let out a small sigh. He just wanted to get off this train, and get that smell out of his nose. It was really starting to bug him at this point. “I used to have dogs, but not cats. See, cats don’t really like me much.” he explained.
“I don’t think pets are allowed on the train...” he mused. Though, not wanting to be caught, he cleared his throat. “But, I’m sure that wouldn’t stop someone from trying to bring one on.” he stated.

“Seeing what? Pretend to forget about what exactly?” He did a nervous laugh, getting off the counter and fixed his hair. Maybe he should have just bought his own place to live in, at least he knows Mei’s schedule- he has yet to even meet the people living here, besides doing a bit of research.
Haven’t seen this guy when he was doing his completely NOT illegal research.
“You’re new too? I feel much better then, because like I would feel pretty left out being the only new person, besides my sister and cousin, and like being new to America. Kind of.” He rambled on, his previous embarrassment already forgotten. “We’ve travelled the world but mainly stayed in the East, like South Korea, Taiwan, Chine, Japan, those countries-”
Then he stopped, “Ah, sorry I was rambling. Geez, I’m so sorry!” He then cleared his throat and stood tall, looking up at Toris.
“My name is Guang Sheng! Nice to meet you fellow hero!” He flashed a bright smile, did a quick peace sign and then extended his hand out.
Toris looked around for a second, seeming a little confused. He decided to play along for a second and pursed his lips, shaking his head. “See what? I didn’t see anything at all.” he stated, shrugging.
Toris nodded, confirming he was new. he was about to introduce himself, but the other just seemed to keep...rambling. Granted, he also could do that, especially when he was nervous. He sounded like he’d done some impressive things, and it made Toris question even more why he was selected by SCREEN.
Toris took his hand, a bit shyly and gave a firm handshake, trying not to be too strong with it. “Toris Laurinaitis. I’m from Lithuania. It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Mr. Sheng.” he stated, trying to be polite. He didn’t know
Shit, My Bad
Definitely a hero on assignment is what Maarten deduced. He wasn’t familiar with this one though, even though he did try to keep track of what fought and went around in this city. Perhaps he was a new recruit? He seemed nervous enough.
“Besides the one that just tackled me?” He replied, taking his hand to stand up, casually acting a little sore from the tackle, he didn’t need to draw too much attention here.
“Not too much foot traffic in a place like this.”
Toris felt a little embarrassed by his statement, though helped him up nonetheless. His heavy frame helped him stay grounded as he pulled up the blond. “Well, of course someone other than me.” he stated, trying not to be embarrassed.
