porsche + my favourite looks
This is a huge accomplishment.
In the entertainment industry, it’s about Acting-Business and I don’t pay that much attention to the business side of it (brand deals, ads, etc.) even if I find it interesting. But this is a huge accomplishment. It was clearly coming when they flew him for Piaget 150th anniversary and all the posts they made about him.
European brands are usually more cautious than their American counterparts for instance when choosing global ambassadors so this is a bold choice, in my opinion. Bold because Apo has fans globally but isn’t globally known yet, do you get my meaning? And it also shows their trust in Apo. Ella Richards, Lee Junho are safe choices.
Apo is the choice coming from the heart, they saw his personality, his uniqueness, he looks like himself and nobody else, he follows the trends that suits him and this is basically what Piaget represents as well.
This kind of deal doesn’t happen without the brand studying and following closely the celebrity. They noticed how he conducted himself, the fact that he was scandals free, etc. And of course, because it’s about business, they paid attention to his fanbase and their support.
That’s why you shouldn’t pay attention to haters, they don’t matter, brands don’t care about them. They can say whatever they want, brands look at the reputation, the love, unconditional support a celebrity has. They know Apo’s fans would show up for him, will hype and trend everything he does. They also trust the fact that their association with him will make him bigger than he already is. The news will be in entertainment, and business platforms and people would wonder who the heck is this talented, charming, beautiful man from Thailand.
You bet I’m proud. Also. I don’t forget that this man with a darker skin from Thailand has just been named the global ambassador for one of the most luxurious and famous brands in the world. And I hope he is an inspiration for every single dark-skinned young girl and boy in Thailand not to change themselves to fit in the industry but to know they can thrive as well because they’re damn beautiful.
"“Its an honour to have Apo be a part of this new creative dynamism…,he has this trailblazing attitude that inspires everyone around him & creates new light. One that never fades” Piaget Global director of communications and image.

am going to do my absolute BEST not to ramble too much here, but okay so!! 4 Chay things that will have me back-flipping out of a fic at the speed of light:
babyfication of Chay
i just. ugh. ugh. he is not a baby. he's a 17-18yo guy who half-raised himself due to some shit circumstances and took care of himself entirely by himself for minimum several months. the only difference between him and an adult is that he's not making his own income. Porsche and Arthee doing their best to give Chay as much of a childhood as they can afford him still doesn't change the fact that Chay grew up young and fast just like the rest of this cast. if he acts uwu innocent baby i'm gone. if the author calls him an uwu baby in their notes i'm gone. ugh.
being weird about Chay's or Barcode's age, specifically in regards to sex
as above, i'm pretty shirty about people babying him in general, but fandom is plain weird about Chay having sex. esp him and Kim having sex. 1. their age gap is not that big, and their circumstances have left them on pretty equal footing re the growing up too fast thing. 2. please assess why you think 18 fixes whatever your concerns are with 17yos having sex. 3. teens have sex. dunno what tf was happening with the rest of you but i knew kids even young as junior high who were already fucking. sure, i thought they were fucking idiots for it, but my concerns about people having sex young are rooted in the fact that sex is an inherently very vulnerable act and that's a lot to put yourself thru emotionally during the age range when everything's a wild emotional cocktail. but like. teens still do it. teens are gonna experiment with adult things and sometimes that means experimenting with sex. i personally might not think it's a good idea, but something not being a good idea doesn't inherently make it a bad one either. please stop being weird about it thanks.
calling Chay "bambi"
i just really don't like it. part of it's related to the babyfication thing, but mostly it's just one of those silly things my brain went nOPE on and oh well. back click. 😂
mischaracterizing Chay's anger
so like. this one is tricky because a lot of it comes down to personal interpretation of canon, but also like. a lot of my mischaracterization gripes involves people writing tropes or drama anger instead of Chay's anger, so. yeah. 😂 a lot of people default to writing explosive anger because it's easier to write, but in canon Chay is just. so completely not explosive. and it's not because he's bottling up anger (which!! even if he was, suddenly exploding due to pressure isn't a good thing, gah).
a lot of Chay's personality stems from Needing To Be Okay. a lot of Chay's personal motivations are trying to help Porsche with his burdens and when Porsche won't let him take on extra responsibilities, Chay does what he can to not add to Porsche's plate. and part of not being a burden is quietly dealing with his anger and resentments on his own time. (another factor playing into that is Porsche and Chay really only have each other-- Porsche deals with his anger very quietly too, and it's very characteristic of how they really don't want to hurt each other because they don't have many other people they care about, so they remove themselves from tense/bad situations best they can to reflect on their anger and return to talk about it after they've calmed down.)
Chay is fierce in his anger, but he withdraws when he's pissed and he always tries to talk it out with the intention of achieving clarity. and if i don't feel like a story's going to handle Chay's resentment/anger in a way that feels true to how it was shown in canon (there's a few litmus tests but mostly i'm going by vibes), i just click out because i already know any plot conflict won't feel fully or properly resolved to me in the end :/

Golden Boy
Dear, sweet, Littlefoot, do you remember the way to the Great Valley? I guess so. But why do I have to know if you’re going to be with me? I’ll be with you. Even if you can’t see me. What do you mean I can’t see you? I can always see you.
The Land Before Time(1988) dir. Don Bluth
I love how Apo processes the outside world, accepts his inner world, and separates but reconciles these two together.
I love watching MileApo's deep talks and both of their mindsets intrigue me. As for Apo, he often gives me an immense sense of acceptance and empathy for the self that I - an outsider - also feel validated and healed.
As a psychotherapist, the things I cherish the most when I sit with my clients in each session are congruence and honesty. These 2 virtues aren’t only ‘I telling the truth’, ‘I don’t lie to you', but also ‘I’m honest with myself’, ‘I know what I’m feeling & I’ll embrace it fully'. To me, a person's sincerity with themselves is even more important than what they say to outsiders – because people can only be honest with themselves when they know their self clearly and can accept the ugliest, most gentle, most fragile part deep inside their soul.
Sound easy, right? Everyone says ‘Accept yourself!”, “Be yourself!”; but the thing is not many people know who they are to accept and be themselves. Why? Because humans are heavily influenced by society, education, and relationships. This is very good since we are social entities that can only thrive surrounded by other people. But the flip side of this is that many times we don't know what are others' characters, what are ours; and there are times when we have a hunch that what people push on us isn't right, but we don't dare, or don't know how to get rid of that 'not right' feeling. As a result, we are confused and miserable without understanding what is going on in and with us. It takes a lot of courage and practice to be able to really listen and be faithful to oneself; thereby knowing who I really am, being real with myself, and limiting the influence of others on me.
With Apo, through what he shared, I can see that freedom plays an important role in the process of growing up to this day, especially freedom of will. He is independent, disciplined, stable, and confident in the path he decides. He also understands very clearly what he lacks and what he needs to do to push himself without becoming self-destructive - my favorite psychologist once said "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change" and Apo is the personification of this sentence.
Apo is so real that it makes me feel both close and far away. He lives in his own world, he knows which part can be opened to invite others in, which part he will need to take care of and protect more carefully - Only those who truly understand and cherish themselves can do that. When I work, Apo-like clients are the most interesting and I also learn a lot from them. For me, Apo is really a wonder.
I think it's worth mentioning Apo is refreshing especially because he is the Asia stardom, where we're used to meeting celebrities just to a certain extent. Of course Apo filters what we need to know (private life is private), but that hardly matters. The important thing is that he's genuine in an environment where being yourself might be more controversial than in the USA or, where I live, Brazil.
Apo often talks about the process of self love and self acceptance, that he wasn't true to himself and only now feels free to show his true colors.
My usual idols are people who were always rebels, free spirits, challenging, etc, like they were born this way (and they probably did) and that makes me see them with an idealistic gaze. I admire those people, but hardly can relate. I wish I was them. I like their concept.
However with Apo I relate a lot. With Mile as well. He archived self love not so long ago and still struggles. In my perception, Mile exposes his demons more than Apo. Mile tries his very best to keep the progress but allows himself dark moments. He won't bury everything inside and there's power in admitting vulnerabilities.
They had different difficult experiences in life yet they preach the same message, because it doesn't matter what they've been through. Or what you, or me, experienced in the past.
For the longest time I believed I was being authentic when I wasn't. I'm a people-pleaser in recovery and as OP said, unconsciously or not I was always trying to fit in because we're always subjects of judgments and we want to belong. Thankfully these days are over and people like Mile and Apo are a source of inspiration in this journey. If the present me wants happiness and genuineness, then I'll have it. I can overcome anything.
Oh this is very interesting, especially when you said "Mile exposes his demons more than Apo." My feeling toward Mile is more approachable; he vibrates with gentle warmth, sth very cozy and safe (like a huge teddy bear, haha). Mile's authenticity is that he will show what he has to fans and people around him, he's unapologetic and confident with himself, not scared or caring about being judged or attacked. Besides your point about him archiving self-love not so long ago, I think another part of it is because he won't stick with showbiz for a long time. We all can see that he enjoys life very much - like, so so much. Being an actor is just one of the experiences he enjoys, so he will continue doing it in the way making him happy.
It's kinda different with Apo. He's a beautiful enigma, who is so good at keeping his boundaries with fans (although I can see it's getting difficult sometimes, with how famous he is nowadays). He's still open and welcoming others coming to him, but he also wraps himself up very well, fans and people who aren't close enough can only meet the parts he allows us to meet, or as you worded: filtering what we need to know. Unlike Mile, Apo's authenticity is that he will show us what he can. This is not about being fake, it's more like a self-protection mechanism set up by himself to create peace in his own mind. It's a pretty effective way to survive in the industry where everyone is nosy about your life. Also, I live in Vietnam and our cultures have a lot in common, I agree with what you said abt the Asia stardom and environment, that makes me even more connected and intrigued by Apo. Sometimes I'm curious, what did he fight to have such vigilance and self-protection ability. I also don't know if he's an extrovert with excellent introverted skills, or an introvert with excess energy, haha.
I love how Apo processes the outside world, accepts his inner world, and separates but reconciles these two together.
