The novel of Jane Eyre (published in 1847) is narrated from the perspective of a 30 year old woman reflecting on events which took place more than 10 years earlier, so the story should be set predominantly in the 1830s. Most adaptations appear to set the Thornfield chapters in the late 1830s by the look of the clothes.

The costumes in this adaptation are decidedly 1840s (note how different Jane’s sleeves are here from the ones in the 2006 version) but I adore them anyway. The fabrics in particular are gorgeous! <3
