living abroad has been very fun and I have loved every minute of it, but there's so many hardships that I feel don't get talked about. i am struggling really hard right now with absolutely no one to talk about it with.
and it sucks I feel this way because so many cool things have been happening. I got a new cat and my bf and I just bought a house. I'm doing things i dreamed of doing for years. yet I'm stuck in a country that even though I'm learning the language and taking the time to understand the social construct, I'm not being accepted by the people here.
i would choose this in every lifetime, but it's definitely a little hard right now. :(
it's one thing to move abroad for work or for school, but I moved for love. i don't have work or school to look forward to. how do I start and curate a life out here with no foundation to work on?

The boyf and I went to go see the Backrooms on Friday!! (can you tell my favorite genre is horror?)
This review CONTAINS SPOILERS‼️
A simple rating of 8/10. I loved this movie and I was pleasantly surprised by how deep and sad this movie genuinely was.
I remember being a teenager when the original videos were posted to YouTube. I've been a fan of the backrooms since I can remember and this movie sat deep in my bones, my core, my soul.
I definitely wasn't expecting this movie to tap into trauma, depression and how differently it can affect people. I related a lot to Clark, sadly and even a little to Mary.
This movie was thought provoking and dare I say, if you don't understand what it feels like to feel the feelings portrayed in this movie, it wasn't for you.
I felt nothing but dread and hopelessness for every character in this movie. I felt myself feeling shame when Mary called out Clark's bullshit during the roleplaying scene. Oh man, I really hate how much I empathize and relate to Clark.
Mary and Clark portrayed, in my opinion, the perfect feelings of,
1. Clark makes himself get therapy because he knows there's something wrong with him, but nothing works because deep down he has no desire to fix what needs to be fixed. Everything has been stripped from him. Why go through the trials and tribulations of fixing yourself when there's nothing to look forward to on the other side? Finding any way to make his situation not his fault.
This is what it's like to be comfortable in your misery.
2. Mary felt helpless that she couldn't help her mother. She gets into being a therapist hoping she can fill that shameful void by helping people who want to be helped. Only for her to come to the realization that she can't save anyone because it's not her job to.
I haven't stopped thinking about this movie since I left and keep diving into as many internet holes and theories I can. I think it was a perfect portrayal of what the Backrooms originally started as. It was meant to make you think, reflect and feel uncomfortable.
10/10 would watch again. If you enjoy thought provoking movies and enjoy the OG Backrooms, I'd highly recommend going to see this.
