A common thing lighters do is put their flames together,
This is to brighten each other and boost the other's light,
Of course, a lighter may ned more help lighting and other's can 'donate' some flame to help,
This tends to dim the helping lighter, but they can boost themselves on someone else or matches.
And when you started to dim of course I helped,
You were the only one I was happy to touch flames with,
I tried to brighten your spark daily, but nothing helped,
And I had to start using matches once a week.
I mailed you addresses of match shops and lighter-fuel banks,
And I read hundreds of lighter instruction manuals because you didn't want to,
But you didn't listen to me, or even look at the shops.
And now I'm using matches daily.
No bother! I can just try a bit harder! I have plenty of matches to help me, you don't have any.
You told me you live in a pile of sand,
And so I showed you articles on why and how sand prevents fire,
And you agreed with me, but said you were scared of sand-removal teams.
And okay maybe I'm using around three matches a day now,
But I dig you out of your sand monthly to give you some air,
And I can all the sand that gets onto my flame because you're safe for a while,
But when you're with me I can't light with the help of matches...
And even when you're gone,
I struggle to light at all because of you being broken in your sand pile makes me dim,
But you refuse my help,
And now we're both dim.
