as venezuela is my home country, all of this hits especially close to home. thankfully, my family and loved ones are safe since they were in cities not as severely affected. however, many others have not been as fortunate and are now facing the aftermath of these events.

years of political and economic instability have left many communities with limited resources and infrastructure, making it even more difficult to respond to emergencies like this. there are reports of people who remain missing, and many families are still waiting for news about their loved ones. rescue efforts have been made even more difficult by shortages of equipment, ambulances, and other emergency resources needed to respond to a disaster of this scale.

Tragedies like this are politic, they always are. Earthquakes happen, lack of specialised teams and materials in hospitals shouldn’t. A lot of this mess could have been prevented.

Venezuela’s nominal GDP is almost 3 times El Salvador… why do they have special rescue teams and we have 1 single dog that’s being retired this year? WHY?

the good news: we've managed to get fam and fam friends out of la guaira - they're now in caracas, temporarily staying in a compromised building while we figure out next steps. we've decided that the safest bet is to have them crash at my place, so we're trying to get the move sorted out, as we're a couple of states away.

the bad news: i live in a very small apartment, with my unemployed partner and my three cats. this makes a long-term stay a bit more complicated, and along with their house, fam have also lost their workplaces, meaning that their income situation is already pretty unstable.

i'm trying to figure things out. we will probably need to either rent a bigger place (big enough for five adults and six animals - dogs fam rescued and is bringing with them, aside from my cats), or find something for fam while things stabilize. i have a full time job but i think with good enough time management i could make it work with a couple more, and so i've been actively applying to other jobs. i might also be selling some of my stuff. additionally, i've set up a kofi - i don't feel very comfortable asking for financial help but i'm struggling, and i was thinking i could take requests (graphics? writing? want to translate your fic to spanish? need help designing pdf layouts? silly doodles? - i'm your guy, hit me up)

Can some of you, mostly Americans, STOP pretending you know better than people from countries your government and your people colonized?

Trump is a dictator obviously.

Criticize your government for imperialism but stop treating Venezuelans like clueless children, because they very likely know more about their country than you people who learnt Venezuela existed few days ago.

It is not crazy to feel disappointed by your government, but you Americans are not in immediate danger. Stealing someone's opinion from a TikTok or reading Wikipedia page does not make you an expert on societal structure, economy, culture and history of the colonized country. It is more complex. You will talk about it for a few days at most and then stop giving a fuck altogether.

And for the love of god, stop centering your white American guilt in the struggles of people from South America, Africa or Middle East. Criticize your government, but for the love of God, stop Americansplaining other people's countries, history and culture to them. Just makes you look egocentric.

Think of the fact that it had to get TO THIS point in order for Venezuelans to be rid of a dictator.

Of course, it's just a few examples. I do not know these people, but there is a trend in Americans and American leftists to speak for people they're advocating for without acknowledging the complexities of their situation nor acknowledging their perspective. Just pointing a few examples.

By all means, I'm not saying I know better either. I'm no expert. I'm neither American nor Venezuelan. But Some of you are so damn condescending towards those you're trying to stand up for it's downright irritating.

Maduro is a piece of shit. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

After 30 years under an oppressive dictatorship, Donald Trump has eliminated the torturous Nicolás Maduro from power. This is a bittersweet moment and that blonde imperialist bastard has robbed us of the pleasure that should’ve come with a free Venezuela that will now be puppeted and colonised by the US.

Nicolás Maduro has committed electoral fraud in the 2024 elections; maintained multi-million dollar deals with Israel (despite lying about being pro-Palestine for popularity); had his army convert a shopping mall into the largest torture centre in the entirety of latin america where students as young as 17 are beaten, tortured, forced to eat their own excrement, raped with sticks, hung by the wrists and shot, and dozens of other inhumane torture methods, ALL FOR PEACEFULLY PROTESTING; and committed rampant genocide of the indigenous population.

Do NOT let American tankies convince you that Maduro falling is a bad thing. You CAN and you MUST condemn Donald Trump’s colonialism WITHOUT riding for this man who has had children murdered for opposing his authoritarianism.
