Nicnevin is often called the Queen of the Fairies or Queen of the Witches. She’s said to lead groups of spirits, fairies, and witches on wild rides through the night, especially on Halloween or other magical nights. She’s mysterious and sometimes feared, because meeting her and her host could bring danger or bad luck, but she’s also connected with old magic, the moon, and the unseen world.

A Baobhan Sith (pronounced kinda like baa-van shee) is a vampire like spirit. They usually appear as beautiful women who lure men to dance with them, but during the dance they drain their victims' blood.

Selkies are seals in the sea, but when they come to land they can shed their seal skin and turn into humans. The important part is their seal skin, if a human steals or hides it, the Selkie can't return to the sea and is stuck living as a human.

Hartwig Steinbach, Godescalc’s father, is a constant heavy presence in his life. He is strict and cold, full of expectations. He’s always pushing Godescalc to follow the family legacy. Hartwig always gives criticism, making Godescalc feel small and never good enough. Godescalc has run away from his family, but the weight of his father’s authority still follows him like a shadow.
