I have no idea.

And you know, maybe I owe this movie an apology for my assumptions.

Like, yes, it's a bad movie and a worse adaptation. Yes, the acting and directing choices are baffling, and Lestat's nu-metal lyrics are kind of embarrassing.

And yes, it's a standout example of the worst elements of early-2000s vampire movies (carelessly racist and sexist, carefully heterosexual, obsessed with an aesthetic of power and "cool" that has aged like milk).

But is it creatively directionless? No. It has a certain audience-insert bent that I can only admire for its marketing cynicism. Very of-the-era.

"Lestat is a handsome vampire, cursed to walk the wasteland of eternity alone until he meets [your name]. But Lestat has stepped into the light of fame the way no decent vampire should, and now he may be facing his last night on earth. Who better to spend it with than [your name], his clever librarian? [Your name] and Lestat will have to fight if they want their love to survive...along with the rest of humanity."
