Hi Vegan Parents! How can I deal with co-workers who constantly make fun of my vegan diet?!? My boss wants to have office BBQ's all the time for no reason (mostly to spite me). I cannot stand the smell of the BBQ Meat! I usually just take these days off but I wonder if what I am doing is hurting the vegan message? What could I do differently? The smells make me want to gag!
totally feel you, but you’ve got to rock it. when they talk about BBQ get excited and talk about Beyond Burgers stuffed with cashew mozerella, chili dogs from field roast, bring your own camp grill, take pics, have lots of toppings, relish, etc. fucking hijack those bbqs. potato salad, invite people to try your stuff like a crazy person. corn is cheap and you can grill it with vegan butter for everyone covered in chili powder, etc. make little plates and put their names on them and pass them out samplers. when they offer anything to you, say you’d love to take it to your neighbor’s dog, it’ll be so excited. stand up wind to avoid the smoke. look at them with glee like you are excited for them to drop dead from their bad habits, eat up, can’t wait to take your job! (j/k). When its not longer fun to tease the vegan it’ll stop. Imagine how the lone meat eater feels at a vegan company bbq? You think they can drop a bloody steak next to a grill full of veggie burgers? would take a real oblivious or callous person, but at the same time maybe you’d offer them a separate grill and place them down wind so they didn’t feel left out. If the roles are reversed ask them how they would expect to be treated by you? no more sick days, vegan bbq warrior it. jackfruit bbq sandwiches, learn the crowd, one by one you’ll win converts.
