Arwinâs hands cup her hot drink as she sat by herself watching the various races move about on the Citadel. Her fused fingers scratch and pick at the side of the cup, her eyes setting on a peach coloured drell a few tables away. She blinks slowly tipping her head slightly finding him curious. He was larger than most drell she had seen and aside from this peach drell, she hadnât seen many drell on the Citadel. Â Her attention was pulled from the drell to a quarian and turian walk by, the two holding hands and the quarian giggling.
Her lips twitch slightly into a smile at seeing the cute couple before her attention was once again drawn to the drell, when she heard his comment. She looks at the drell once more and tips her head to the side before looking down at her cup once more. âI didnât think monsters had nightmares.â Her voice soft as she continues to pick at her mug once more.
His eyes cleared and he gave a visible start at the sound of soft voice. He caught sight of a pale drell at a table next to his. He was pretty sure it was she that spoke, but without eye contact he was left uncertain. He gazed around the cafe, but everyone else seemed even less likely to have spoken to him. He inclined his head to her. âVerily, they doth, but I hadst not realized that I spoke aloud. I mun apologize, for I am but sure that wast a most odd statement to chance upon.âÂ
She was unusually pale for a drell, he wondered if it was familial. Too, she was female, so few left Kahje and even less so Rakhana. He couldnât help but wonder what had brought her so far from home. He also wondered if she would ask him why he thought monster had nightmares. How would he answer such? He could hardly tell her what he was. And he couldnât claim that he was having nightmares, because drell canât dream. With memories as real as life there was no need to dream. Perhaps, he would distract her. âWhat bringeth thee to the citadel?â Did she work here? Family? Or was her ship just passing through to elsewhere?
rineshepard:
Rine was un-phased by the drellâs display of anger and frustration, giving him an expression that asked if he was done with his little outburst. Her hip cocks out to the side, her arms crossing under her bust as she watched him try to regain the composure he had lost.Â
In truth it was what she was looking for from him, she wanted him to get angry at her, to yell, to push back. âSucks doesnât it.â She hums as she eyes him. âMade to believe it would be the end but itâs not.â She has a slight bite to her tone as her hand lifts the blonde wig off her own head. âAlways something else that needs to be added.â Her hand dropping the wig, not seeing a point in walking away because he could easily just find her.
âIf you havenât clued in yet⌠I was making a point.â She scoffs looking away from him, anger that had been so long repressed bubbling to the surface. She flickers with a light blue hue as her biotics hum to life. She probably knew that it seemed out of character for her to all of a sudden to be angry at the drell, it took a lot to make her angry. But with the war finally taking itâs toll she snapped, and blamed the one person that made it possible for Cerberus to bring her back.  It was him that went for her in the afterlife, her anger was towards him for shoving her back into the empty husk that laid on the Cerberus table.  He was why she had to feel losing everyone she loved, why she had to be the one to carry the banner, she was the one that was blamed when things went wrong, it was her fault because he made it so.Â
He dropped his arm when she ignored it. The woman truly had a dizzying intellect. He could not decipher what she was going on about. His brow ridges drew together, a piece of the puzzle was missing. There was much he could do, but mind reading was not one of them. A warm light surrounded him and his costumed melted into an open chested teal silk shirt and black trousers. It was obvious things had changed. Â
Comfortable once more, he leaned a shoulder against the door frame. âA point... thee mun beâeth more specific.â The point felt more like a circle with no end. Like Shepardâs hamster forever running in a wheel and getting nowhere. âVerily, I hath not âclued inââ he said, trying to wrap his tongue around the unfamiliar phrase. It was obvious she was upset, but the why of it was left unknown. âMine powers doth have limitations, Rine. I cannot readeth thy mind. If't be true thee wouldst has't words with me then speaketh them,â he said woodenly.
rineshepard:
Rine smiles wide as she watches the drell disappear into the room once more to change. âYou know this about me when we met dear.â She calls into the room as she slips to the bathroom to get the final piece to his costume, the curly luscious blonde wig. She returns just in time to see the drell step from the room, she kept the wig hidden behind her back.
âMy you make an adorable cherub!â She laughs lifting her omnitool quickly to get a picture. âVâArte wonât believe me when I tell him I got you in the costume.â She smirks proudly at VâAtre before the smirks becomes a devilish grin once more. âNow stay still while I add the last piece to your costume.â She giggles quickly plopping the wig onto his head and jumps back out of the way in case he went to hit her.Â
âPerfect.â She laughs snapping another picture.
Adorable? He looked the fool. He still couldnât decide if mortals dressed in this manner to mock the Gods or if it was their attempt to feel like a God. If so, he pitied them, they romanticize that which they knew nothing about. it was not a mantle he would wish on anyone.Nor were the shackles he wore being bound to a God. His hand rose to wipe the image from her OT but stilled. he lowered it slowly to his side. He would allow her to keep the memory. But she was starting to push him farther than he was willing to go. âMayhap so, but he wouldst be looking at himself in the picture,â he reminded her. When the blonde wig landed on his head he growled, yanked the wig off and slapped it on top of hers. âThee wilt hath a bald cupid, Rine or none at all.â His gaze narrowed on hers. âWere thee anyone else, I wouldst  - â he stopped and took a steady breath. âHath a care, mine friend. There ist much I wouldst doth for thee, but taketh care not to breaketh that which bends.âÂ
He cleared his throat to regain as much composure as possible in the situation. âNow, if I am to beâeth thy escort this eve...â He held the crook of his arm out to her, curious if she still intended to pursue the entertainment she had planned for them.
vatre:
He just blinked. Had she even looked at the scrap sheâd handed him? âA child wouldst be too big,â he growled as he stepped into the spirit realm, through the door and stepped partially through her before he realized sheâd not gone far. He took a step back and returned to the mortal realm. âVerily, RineâŚwouldst thee ever wear such as this?â he asked, shaking the loin cloth in her direction. And what, pray tell, did he owe her? âWhatsoever didst I do to owe such to you?â he asked with a quirk of a brow.Â
Rine purses her lips as she tries hard not to laugh at the drell who was obviously not okay with wearing the little costume she picked out for him. âItâs either that little thing or a long blonde wig, a dress and fake breasts. I was giving you the easier of the two. I meanâŚâ She smirks devilishly as she looks up at the drell. âI can always pick a more revealing outfit for you to wear.â She hums arching her back against the wall, feeling her back stretch.
âYou owe me cause you brought me back.âÂ
Fake what? Do mortals do that? To what purpose? He couldnât stop his gaze from lowering to his chest, but it shot back to her in a blink. More revealing? His grip tightened on the offending material. He opened his mouth to retort to her comment about saving her life, but snapped it shut again. Twisted logic, that. âThee art a devious woman, Rine. Thinketh naught that I wouldst doth this again.â
He couldnât believe he was even considering this mockery of the Gods. Were a mortal to appear as one of his Gods or their warriors, it would not end well. He would not even consider doing this if most of the pantheons had not been destroyed in the war against the Kin. Gods could be merciless and vindictive, mocking them was never wise.
He released a slow breath, removed is clothing and stepped into the nightmare. Since drell donât dream, waking nightmares were all that he was capable of, and this, he feared, was going to be a very uncomfortable one. He strapped the wings on and slung the quiver and bow over his shoulder. He would get her back for this. He squared his shoulders, opened the door and stepped out of the room.Â

He scoffed at that ridiculous bit of logic. âLooketh upon me, Rine. I wouldst hardly be considered small.â At 6â˛2âł he was much taller than her. And that scrap didnât look like it would leave much to the imagination. He held the small - what was that a diaper? Loin cloth? between his hands. âVerily, I doubst âtwould cover - coverâŚwast this another of thy jokes?â He sat the whatever it was on his lap and picked up the fluffy wings and bow and arrow with his hands. âAye, thee mun be jesting.â She had to be, right? Death wearing - that?
âOh donât flatter yourself V.â She scoffs waving the peach drell off. âYou men are all the same, thinking youâre too big.â She uses air quotes before leaving the room so the drell could dress in the loin cloth, quiver, and wings. âDonât worry so much!â She calls loudly from outside the room, her foot kicking the ground as she waited for VâAtre to dress.Â
âCome on you owe me.âÂ

He glanced down at the little costume she shoved at him. He gave a slow, double lidded blink. His gaze rose back to hers. âVerily, thee art insane to think I wouldst wear such.â
Rine rolls her eyes as she doesnât back down shoving the tiny costume into the drellâs hands.âDoes make sense if you donât wear this⌠Iâm going as Aphrodite and I need my cute little cherub.â She muses as her hand pats his cheek making sure not to touch his cheek folds.

Death wearing - that?
âI am not wearing that.â (valentine meme)
âCome on! I need a date to this costume party and you are it so buck up and be my date.â She states shoving the cupid costume into the drellâs hands.
He glanced down at the little costume she shoved at him. He gave a slow, double lidded blink. His gaze rose back to hers. âVerily, thee art insane to think I wouldst wear such.â
rineshepard:
Rine grunts to bring dropped to the ground, she frowns at the two men. She slowly stands dusting herself off and rubbing her backside, her butt cheeks throbbing from being dropped. âCorrection sweetheart. I was riding HIM, and he isnât too bad just got to work on the whole dropping thing.â She winks at VâAtre realizing having her husband jealous and looking to kill VâAtre would be the only fun she would really have.Â
âAlso⌠Donât blame me for practicing⌠it wasnât my plan to practice.â She shrugs innocently looking at Hunter with large eyes and batting her lashes. âI was bored and you know Iâm a bit of an attention whore, you shouldnât have left me alone for so long with abilities I was curious to use. You know I will die at least a couple times before I get the hang of it.â She twists the tip of her boot in the ground really playing up the innocent card. âIâm on shore leave and normally Iâm hunted but you have been doing such a good job at keeping me safe that Iâm lonely.â Her voice soft as her hand rests on his crossed arms before her lips curl into a mischievous smirk.Â
âBesides, VâAtre always comes when I call.â Giving the peach coloured drell a playful wink putting him in the hot seat once more.
VâAtre frowned at the large drell. âDesist, Hunter! I am not pale, nor do I ride -â he paused at Hunterâs incredulous look. His gaze fell to his peach colored skin then rose to Hunterâs deep red skin. He released a small breath. âMayhap, compared to some I am...pale. But I do not -â Rineâs wink and words stopped him cold. Why was she baiting her husband? Or did she just wish to see his pale face rearranged?Â
Hunterâs eyes narrowed on his wife, not even glancing in the other drellâs direction. The other man had done what was needed. It was his wife that was instigating. He deigned to ignore her riding comment. He did not like seeing his wifeâs legs around another manâs waist, but were blame to be laid, âtwould be at the perpetratorâs feet.Â
He remained firm against the looks she was sending him. He wasnât naive, he knew manipulation and usually he played along with her. But when it dealt with her safety, he would not back down. To add to it, her words were quickly digging her deeper into a hole. VâAtre always.....he took a deep breath, a deep rumble built in his chest as his body began to expand in size.Â
VâAtre paled at her words. Way to go Rine. âI think now wouldst be  good time to take mine leave.â He flashed himself to his now empty apartment. Feeling Kasumiâs absence like a heavy weight upon him. He couldnât be here right now. He slipped into the spirit realm, needing to hunt.Â
rineshepard:
Rine grumbles as she slowly opens her eyes, feeling them roll about in her head before looking up at Hunter. A small smile spreads across her lips knowing full well she had pulled Hunter away from his work to be there to revive Rine. She sits up slowly as she rolls her neck, hearing each crack with each movement she made, her hand touches the healing wound on her temple before looking up from where she had fallen.Â
âWell Iâll be damned.â She mutters remembering the events to hitting the ground which had killed her. âGuess I wonât be doing that again.â She grunts standing up, putting her hands on her lower back so she could stretch it and crack it. âYou.. The falling was fun.. The landing not so much.â She looks at VâAtre unimpressed with him before looking to Hunter. âI blame you for this you knowâŚâ She playful narrows her eyes at her husband, poking his chest playfully before looking at VâAtre.Â
âAnd you need to have more fun.â She playfully points to him before moving to jump up onto his back, her arms wrapping around his neck and her legs around his waist. âOnward Death.â Her one arm extending out before them, like a captain ordering his army to charge forward. âWe are off to find fun and punish you for taking my fun away.â She orders mater-of-factly, with a wide smile. She didnât think anything about VâAtreâs scent being transfered onto her or the effect that it was having on Hunter. VâAtre was a friend and she knew that there was something bothering the drell, not entirely sure what it was but it was something that she could feel and hear.
Hunterâs lips dipped down into a slight frown at her smile, his eyes narrowed. A smile did not fix everything. He watched silently as she tested her body. When she rose to a stand, he rose as well, his arms crossing over his massive chest. The fall was fun. Blamed him. He grunted. âMe? YOU shouldst not be practicing thine abilities without mine presence until you understand them.â HIs voice had a harsh, emotional edge.
But she was already moving away from him. He was stunned when she mounted the other drellâs back. His eyes bore into the drell, not amused to see his wife's legs about another man). Â âDeath rides a pale steed, Riiine, not thyself.â
V'Atre grunted when she landed on his back...He caught his friendâs glare, the swirling of his red irises, that began to shine golden...a glare that reminded him he was no longer an equal, but a God. He quickly faded, allowing Rine to fall on her backside. He stepped to the side and returned to the mortal realm. He inclined his head to her, taking note, with a brief look, that his friendâs eyes no longer had the golden sheen. â'Tis right you are. Death shouldst have more fun and I found much amusement in that.â

Rineshepard: Rine looks in the direction where VâAtre was pointing. âAh Man!â She groans huffing dramatically as she looks back to VâAtre. âYou bastard. Taking away all my fun, and what do I have to look forward too? More work and no fun or play. This bites.â She frowns more dramatically as she refuses to move from her spot, if VâAtre wanted to put her back into her body he was going to have to force it back in with Hunterâs help. She wasnât going without a fight and certainly not without kicking and screaming the entire time.
He noted her petulant look and all he could do was shake his head. The choice to stay is not hers to make. Not as an immortal. You live and die by your Godâs whim. Or A Godâs whim...but few Gods would seek to destroy another Godâs warrior angels, for that would declare a cataclysmic war. Angels could be killed...even Gods could be killed. If one knew how to do so. But that was not knowledge they allowed out. But, Rine was not to be granted an out. In truth, he did not think she truly wanted it. She loved Hunter too much to walk away from him.Â
His smiled broadened. He did not have to lift a finger to get her back into her body this go around. She was immortal now. Tied to the shell. He raised his hand to his lips, blew her a mockery of a kiss and waved once more. He watched her spirit fade, soft trail streaks were all that could be seen as her soul rubberbanded back into her shell. Despite the soul moving on, he could still feel its presence, though much fainter. He would continue to feel it for some time, it was how death tracked escaped or newly released souls.
He stepped into the mortal realm to expose his presence to the God. âAmonkal,â he said, inclining his head to the giant red drell. Hunter was aware the moment his wifeâs soul re-entered her body. He was also aware of the arrival of his friend. He expected no less. He knew no other death could come for his wife.Â
Heâd already investigated the scene, there was no hint of foul play, or heâd have already been burning a path to the perpetrator. He scowled at the peach colored drell. âHunter, VâAtre. Naught but Hunter to thee.â His gaze lowered to his wife, finally stirring in his arms.
rineshepard:
Rine looks up at him and smiles brightly. âHe can be if he letâs loose and let his ridges blow in the wind.â She giggles at the thought of him being like some long haired human love interest on the cover of a romance novel. âAnd if you are an assassin I hear death is fun.â She smiles brightly from her position on the floor.
He cleared his throat. His mind went decidedly sideways with that comment. And not in a direction it needed to go. âMe thinks you shouldst talk to Thane about that, mayhap he wilt tell you differently.â Movement caught his attention. He gestured towards Rineâs lifeless body. Hunter had pulled his wifeâs body onto his lap and was holding her head against the stump of her neck for it to reattach itself. A devilish glint stole into his eyes. âTime is up...you art unable to die, Rine... time to go home.â A wicked grin formed on his lips. âWelcome to mine world.â
rineshepard:
Rine groans internally, as her arms are thrown to her side dramatically. âUgh FINE!â She rolls her eyes before dropping to sit on the ground, crossing her arms over her chest and her legs into her lap. âIâm telling Hunter you are no fun and wouldnât let me play.â She projects to VâAtre as she pouts, she truly had embodied the persona of a young child.Â
He rolled his eyes dramatically at her theatrics. Mayhap he would tease her mercilessly about her behavior once she graced the mortal realm again. Â âMe thinks he shalt agree wholeheartedly...I am after all, death...think you death is fun??â His lips twitched...âDeath,â he reminded her, letting the projection fade eerily on the last word.Â
rineshepard:
Rine frown as she crosses her arms over her chest. âWhy do you always want to ruin my fun? And I donât want to go back.â She looks away from him like a defiant child, she felt free and wanted to have fun.
âBesides, danger follows me everywhere I go.â She bounces on the balls of her feet looking around herself. She didnât seem to register what VâAtre was saying to her, nothing mattered in the moment. Right now all she thought about was having fun and being care fear.Â
He shot her a droll look. âI am death, Rine. Forsooth, not the largest barrel of laughs,â he projected. He angled his head, his gaze boring into her for a moment. âYou art Hunter's warrior now...you canst learn to flash where you wish to go...he canst probably even teach you how to fade from notice...but the spirit realm ist dangerous, Rine...The danger here unlike that you wouldst find in the mortal realm, for here âtis final.â The last word he projected with emphasis. Not quite the same as being voiced, but the best he could do given the limitations of the spirit realm.
rineshepard:
Rineâs smile fades into a frown. âCome on! Just a little longer⌠I want to get in some things off my bucket list. One being able to haunt a bastard and two to walk through walls. OH you know what would be really fun!â She gasps smiling brightly once more, clapping her hands together she was unable to keep track her thoughts. Her soul taking on the mentality of a child, perhaps it was the playful side of her she kept hidden for so long that itâs coming out in full force in death. For whatever the reason was, she was going to be difficult for VâAtre to get her back to her shell.
âWhat about if we go to a funeral and make the body pop up out of the casket⌠Has to be someone whoâs an ass though. Know anyone that would fight the bill?â She giggles wondering if this was what it felt like to be a mischievous spirit.Â
âJust imagine the look on everyoneâs face.â She giggles before moving away from VâAtre. âIâll go back to that life once Iâve had a little fun.â
His jaw dropped open then slammed shut. What the? Sheâd lost it.  Normally it amused him when spirits moved their lips trying to talk. They had no body, no breath...no voice. Thoughts had to be projected or signs signed. He was able to read lips, for heâd had centuries of practice, but it was still a waste of energy for her. âPush your thoughts at me, you have no voice here,â he projected with a wave of his hand. He paced for a brief moment, considering how to make her understand the danger she was in. His gaze returned to her, he shook his head, his lips a grim line. âRine, NO. Yo wilt go back now! Devourers art drawn to spirit essence. They wilt absorb your essence into them, you wouldst cease to exist. Nothing left for your husband to save!â He ran a hand across his head spines in agitation. In the spirit realm, oneâs body felt whole, though it was not.Â
He gazed out at the odd, just out of sync realm. The spirit and mortal realms were juxtaposed, but not everything that existed in one existed in the other. The outlines of the two realms were blurred and separated a bit. . âOne devourer and I wouldst hold mine own...more than one and I wouldst likely die with you. Return. To. Your. Shell. I didst shove you back in once, do not maketh me do thus again.â

VâAtre sighed. Heâd been drawn instantly to a soul only he could claim. A soul he had no business claiming. He scowled at the spirit before him. He projected his thoughts at it. âWhat didst thou do?â There was little doubt Amonkal would be here soon. He would have felt his wifeâs death.
Rine bounces on her heels are she smiles brightly at seeing the friendly face. âI did something stupid as usual.â She chuckles glad to actually be back in the spirit realm once more, continuing to smile brightly at him.Â
âDid you know that walking along the railing on my balcony is never a smart idea. Apparently you slip, fall, smack your head all the way down until you splat.â She giggles as she begins to wander, not entirely sure where she wanted to go but she remembers the first time she was here and actually missed it. It was like being reunited with a part of herself that had been left behind.
âNow⌠Iâm off to go haunt the Illusive Man, maybe Iâll make Kai Leng trip⌠Gods⌠I hate that man. Do you think it would be weird for my to start using my hubbyâs name as a swear Like Amonkal damn it? Or is that just weirdâŚâ She giggles, completely giddy as she looks at the drell who she could only assume was far from amused. She doesnât think that perhaps it was a side effect of being dead, but whatever it was she was enjoying it.
He blinked a slow, double lidded blink. âMe thinks that fall damaged your brain,â he mumbled. His brow quirked at her odd words. âYou wouldst wish to curse your husband? You art most welcome to do so, were that your desire. âTwould, verily, get his attention.â  Gods were drawn to their name. Then he shook his head. Not really important..it had caught his attention because it had been an odd thing to say, but not important. What was important is that she intended to remain in the spirit realm. He quickly held up his hands as if warding her off. âThe spirit realm âtis not safe. You mun needs return to your shell, afore your essence draws the devourers.â
