-- Robert Flaceliére, Daily Life in Greece at the Time of Pericles
You see, a man who writes is a man who finds comfort. And what does he find comfort in? In not having anyone on hand to talk to. So I talk to my penholder. I can’t help myself. And as soon as I start talking to my penholder, well, there are people all around me. I speak to my loved ones, the living and the dead, to all those I have loved. And they are there, by my side, in flesh and blood. Not a single smile or intonation is missing. Often, I laugh with them. Sometimes I even cry. ~ Marcel Pagnol

All these uniform scenes and dramas, whether you have come to know them through personal experience or through ancient history All these spectacles were the same, and only the actors were different.
Marcus, for his part, would no doubt have approved of Schopenhauer’s views on history:
From beginning to end, it is the repetition of the same drama, with different costumes and names. This identical element, which persists throughout all changes, consists in the basic qualities of the human heart and head—many of them are bad; a few of them good. History’s overall motto ought to be Eadem, sed aliter. One who has read Herodotus has, from a philosophical point of view, already studied enough history, for his work already contains everything which constitutes the subsequent history of the world.
These spectacles which repeat themselves identically throughout one’s life and throughout the ages are almost always scenes of human evil, hypocrisy, and futility. It makes no difference whether one sees them for forty years, or for ten thousand. Death will deliver us from this spectacle, as tiring as the games of the amphitheater; or at least it will not make us miss anything, since it is impossible for anything new to happen.

“This whole planet is fiction,” he said. “A picture show. Sometimes it can be a rather engrossing picture show, but that doesn’t make it real. Our heads are programmed to get puffed up with all kinds of infatuations and obsessions. Some of them use up years and decades of our lives. Then when the spell breaks on one of ‘em you shake your head and wonder, ‘What was that, a bubble?’ But you turn right around and get obsessed by something else. Entire lives pass this way, from one petty obsession to another. Eventually, if you’re lucky and if one of these obsessions doesn’t kill you, you come to realize that life is at best a dream, and at worst, a nightmare.”

"The fact that a sense of self is even possible - that an arrangement of matter can produce a self-aware mind! Think about it: it is a fundamental property of the universe, an unbreakable law, that matter has the inherent capacity to become more than the sum of its parts. That's the definition of transcendence!"

Just finished The Drifter by Powerhoof, it's been an experience not unlike my first playthrough of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis when I was a kid.
The great story, the tension, the characters, the puzzles and the music, everything was made with such great attention and care, you can see it in every pixel. It's a joy to play.
Something else that made me think of Fate was the really well defined personality of each character and the humor, including - maybe especially - in tense situations.
Highly recommended if you're into great stories, awesome plot twists, contemporary sci fi, adventure games, or pixel art.
