FMA follows basically a catholic way of viewing the seven deadly sins so it makes total sense that she’s female (Father and Envy ar canonically genderless, may I remind you).

It’s obvious that you don’t know WHY that happened so i dunno if I should even bother but on a writing level it’s a parallelism to the “Forest Ephitaph”, a very common plot device used in European literature as a way to educate the main characters (often accompanied by the presence of a monster or greater entity that threathens whoever is in the forest). The way it’s portrayed in FMA is harsh and raw but it has a deep meaning and a important lesson that couldn’t have been clear without the use of pain and violence.
They were children, yes, but they chose to walk a path of suffering and difficulties, Izumi wanted to be sure that they knew what it meant breaking the laws of nature (because she obviously suspected that they wanted to resurrect their mother)

1) In a war both parties loose. This is a fact. Pain is pain, you can’t judge what someone is going through, you don’t know what’s going on in their heads. EVERYONE has the right to feel pain. Winry lost her parents, many other people lost friends and relatives in that war and they have the RIGHT to be sad, when someon comes and tells you that your pain means nothing it’s natural to react.
Miles knows that, Ed knows that, and i am sick to hear all this bullshit about “ISHVAL WAS ABOUT RACISM” BECAUSE IT WASN’T. I already made an entire post about this so I won’t repeat myself any longer, but I’ll just say this: In that war both Amestrians and Ishvalans were victims. Period. Fact. Obviously the ishvalans suffered more than anyone, it doesn’t matter that Ed isn’t allowed to his opinion and his pain.

I will say that I agree with you just on Garfield, i don’t like the fact that the only gay character in the whole manga is treated just as a punchline, but the only thing that saves the whole situation is that at the very least is just a bad joke, it doesn’t affect the plot in any way, on the contrary, Winry deeply respects him because he is capable smart and a genius when it comes to automail, (the same goes for pinako an paninya)
“You can defend Lust revealing her weakness if you want, but it will always bug me. She’s supposedly the smart homunculus, but this made her even dumber than Envy and more Narcissistic than Pride(who is smart enough to keep in the shadows and doesn’t go around flaunting his weakness). Sure, it’s supposed to be her expecting not to be beat, but I’ve seen that kind of trope before numerous times in anime, where the bad guy reveals his weakness and tells the good guy what he is, so it can lead to the hero having their bad ass moment, so seeing it in a series I really like bothers me. It felt so contrived, forced and out of place. As such, it made her death to be expected and I don’t consider it good writing at all. The event would have been much stronger if she hadn’t done such a thing. It just created a quick way for Mustang to take her out. I most certainly do not see Lust as a bad calculator and I feel that she was the smartest or most level headed of all the homunculi in someways, so it felt like an insult to her intelligence. Hence why I say it felt contrived. Nothing will make me feel more satisfied about this. “
She was never supposed to be smarter than any other homuculi, quite the contrary actually, beacuse just as gluttony and sloth she is part of the “physical pleasure” part of the seven deadly sins, she blindly follows orders, nothing more nothing less. (I absolutely love her, I’m just stating facts)
The “I’m gonna tell you my weakness” trope is well known in the anime/manga community, and I usually don’t justify it because I hate it with a passion, BUT, it this case it makes actual sense.
1)Lust’s weakness isn’t the philosopher stone. Homunculi don’t have proper weaknesses, they just die once they consume every single soul in their stone.
2)Lust is a pretty young Homunculus, she doesn’t know how much Roy is or isn’t strong, she just thinks of him as a slightly stronger alchemist, which doesn’t really mean much for the homunculi, so it makes sense with her childish and stupid personality to be so blunt and open about how her body works.
She isn’t smart, she might e the dumbest homunculus actually. (I repeat: I still love her)
If you didn’t like the scene that’s perfectly OK.
It’s your taste and I won’t argue about it, but it’s purely subjective.
