but why are we not leaning into the fact that we KNOW jack does not like to be alone. we know he needs to keep moving and stay busy to function. that he comes in early and stays late to keep from being alone. that he has an entire second job to fill the gaps between shifts. that he fills the silence in his house with the noise of a police scanner in case he’s needed.

what about jack who’s the one to be all in first? and comes on too strong. and has a tendency to be too much. what about jack who has to teach himself to slow down to remind himself that his relationship isn’t an escape from himself?

dennis hates being perceived and jack is ultra-perceptive; the age gap & the "this is my boss's best friend" is an excellent dynamic; they're both stockier dudes with bigger muscles which is also very good BUT

the best part is that they are similarly sensitive. jack is obviously deeply empathetic (his letter to the car crash veteran's family, falsifying the abortion record, "i'll pay for it") and dennis has proven several times now that he not only is extremely aware of the feelings of those around him but that he is also capable of listening to the women he works with and understanding his blind spots without taking a hit to his ego, which i feel like is something jack has picked up over the years as well (robby, too, but it is very hard to display that empathy when you're also literally about to kill yourself)
