it was too much of a risk and this was all a consequence for his lack of caution. in hindsight, he’ll admit, this wasn’t the wisest plays. he could’ve done better, played smarter : waited for his team to back him up instead of diving right in. rookie mistake, he makes them at the best of times. maybe later he’ll berate himself, in the privacy of his room, for he looks like a fool now with a gun to his head. but now ── now is the time for witty remarks and fake smiles no matter how pained they may look to the crowd. so it’s what he does because it’s expected of him to do so. unsteady hands try to no avail to cover one of the many wounds penetrating him, one in particular that bleeds profusely upon his stomach. he’s the first one down on his team and they’re too far to reach him in time. there’s no sense of urgency and there are no pleads he can speak of to catch their attention. they’ll get him when they can, when the enemies are gone and the coast is clear.

and here he thought he managed to outsmart her with his decoys. hands still, caught right in the middle of reloading his weapon, before he turns to face her. his mind races a mile a minute, too fast, all in the attempts to figure how he can escape this alive. not unscathed, just alive. he barely registers the need to call out to his teammates. hello ! your very lovely friend, mirage ── the guy you all adore, needs some help over here ! it gets caught in his throat and he hopes it isn’t too obvious the nervous gulp he takes to steady himself. despite it all, a cocky smile twists upon his features ; plastered instantly and full of teeth.  ❛ and i’m guessing i’m the fool in this ── what is it, scenario ? ❜  the crowd’s watching and it makes his words bold and mirthful.

wasn’t it his charm ? people knew him as mirage : someone who was loud, too much of a jester at times, who filled the silence with inane commentary when no one else would. he was someone who entertained. didn’t come to be the guy the public has come to know and love if he wasn’t like that. if he wasn’t chatting away, talking the ears off his teammates about anything and everything. he was used to the image he portrayed ! really, the crowd wasn’t going to love a legend who spent their time sulking and being somber anyway. well ── he won’t name any specific names, but some legends are like that and somehow still have fans. surprisingly. he wonders why. kudos to them and all, but being quiet just doesn’t suit him ; the personality he’s built for himself was far too big and lively for that.
