Here’s another list of what to say to a director whose film you hated by Pedro Almodóvar, from his essay, “Loneliness at the Top,” collected in The Patty Diphusa Stories and Other Writings:

Today the Department of Exceptional Edible Art is feasting their eyes on the entries for the second annual Ultimate Edible Masterpiece competition held by UK-based charity the Art Fund (previously featured here). This year’s winner is a recreation of Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam using tangerine segments.

This mouthwatering competition is a philanthropic bake-off, a fundraising event that helps the Art Fund raise money to enable gallery to purchase and exhibit works of art. Other distinguished entries included a chocolate cake and candy version of Giacometti’s Walking Man I, an iced spongecake sculpture of Watts’ painting Hope, a chocolate and coffee cake sculpture of Alexander McQueen’s Coiled Corset, and an exquisite fruit cake that looks just like a 7th century jeweled Anglo Saxon brooch, and a batch of spiced and chocolate gingerbread cookies made to look like Antony Gormley’s Field for the British Isles:

Art + Science = Awesome Agar Art

This year that American Society for Microbiology (ASM) launched the Agar Art Contest. Members of the ASM were invited to create and submit pieces of art made using microbes creatively grown in petri dish canvases. The contest received over 80 entries the ASM announced the winners last week.

First place went to Neurons, submitted by Mehmet Berkmen of New England Biolabs, with artist Maria Penil. People’s Choice went to Cell to Cell, with almost 3,500 likes on the Facebook album. This image was also created by the group who won first place.

Our favorite entry is this Wibbly-Wobbly-Timey-Wimey TARDIS made of E. coli bacteria:
