Hi guys well I’ve not quite finished listening to it yet but I think the overall feeling for me is that Bondy wants to move forward and progress, work on new projects. I feel v sad but I would hate to think of him staying in the band if it wasn’t fulfilling his dream. I actually scribbled down some bits - it’s not quite word for word but I pulled out these bits… (and sorry if I got bits wrong I should be working but I couldn’t concentrate without knowing what had been said so I just did this super fast!)
JB: You and I make music for a certain reason, it’s nice but it doesn’t matter. I got quite distorted with that at certain times, thinking I was bothered about the scale of things, then I realised that was somebody else’s goal - not mine. I’m not bothered about… I’d be as happy playing The Cluny with 200 people who are buzzing to be there than I would with 10,000 people in an arena. Any mass gathering is amazing and the sensations created by it…
MS: Did you feel like that before that was happening that you did want that?
JB: You have to achieve it to know if you want it or not kind of thing…
MS: Were you aware that’s what your milestones were?
JB: I think I thought they were my milestones for a while because maybe they were the goal of the band but it wasn’t, and that’s why I’m saying I got distorted. You re-assess - you get a bit of perspective from distancing. You’re like ‘hold on, it’s amazing, you’re appreciative of it, but it’s not all the boxes ticked. It’s not your vision kind of thing. Not vision - it’s not your necessity. I guess I’m glad I’ve done it though.
Then he goes on to talk about wanting to play his own music in Japan. Then…
JB: I’ve enjoyed playing in bands in the past and you get that fucking gang mentality sort of shit… and people change and that’s lost and then trying to force it and going like ‘yeah we’re still a fucking gang’ to the outside world just seems lame and childish. I just don’t want to do anything that’s not authentic these days…
He talks about new projects and says it’s pointless doing something if it’s not enjoyed. But he also says he loves touring and doesn’t want it to stop.
I need to get some work done now 🙈 but I’ll listen to the last part later..
Man I feel so sad but I’d hate to think of any of the guys carrying on if their hearts were no longer in it. As individuals I just want them to be happy and follow their dreams and have as fulfilling lives as possible. I think particularly for Van and Bondy music is their lives and their passion and that will still continue… I guess they have grown and changed though and maybe they want different things now. Van has always strived to be as big as he can, play stadiums, fill venues etc. I think Bondy maybe got swept up in all that but now they’ve had time out his perspective and goals have changed 😢
I just want what’s best for them at the end of the day ❤️
