every fat person you know for the most part probably has a story like this, of medical neglect. many of the stories i've heard personally are when the complaint or the doctor wasn't related at all, like being told to lose weight at the ear nose and throat doctor or at the dentist. it's straight up just bias. it's such a thing that in the show Shrill it's portrayed, when Aidy Bryant goes to the gynecologist and her doctor suggests she get gastric bypass.

the studies on health and fatness are simply not that black and white and there is basically no research that shows that more than an incredibly tiny minority of people can lose weight and keep it off for more than like 2 years. bodies have set points that they gravitate towards, it's not a personal failure. this also is how the weight loss industry succeeds so well - repeat customers.

some of the harm associated with fatness is also due to weight cycling, which is very hard on your body and is even worse if you get off a GLP1, which according to a recent study causes weight to be regained at a rate that is 4x faster than without taking a GLP1.

you don't have to hate yourself. you don't have to hate other people for their body type either. it makes me so sad to see the thinspo tag going around again in 2026 a lot like it was back in the day.

The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve. 

Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.

If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.

Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.

We rolled out a significant change to how notes work on reblogs, and the reaction has been strong. We're not going to pretend otherwise. 

First things first: We're reversing the change. Your feedback in comments, emails, and especially reblogs, made clear that the rollout created problems we need to address before moving forward. We also should have communicated this differently from the start, and we didn't.

We still believe there's a better version of how reblogs can work. One that gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves. But we want to get there with you.

In the coming days we'll share more on how we plan to do that,  including ways to work directly with some of you on this and future changes before they ship.

Hijacking the OP's post does not equal credit. What does equal credit is, if their addition goes on to be a popular part of the chain, they will continue to get notifications on their addition. How is that not already a completely, perfectly workable situation and has been since this website's inception? It isn't broken! I'm not sure how the people adding onto posts can GET more credit on account of how they *already get credit*. If you truly want them to continue getting notifs in the same way the OP does, so they feel like they get continuous credit for everything that comes *after* their addition, then letting them get updates *without* removing it from the OP would be the sensible thing to do there. Removing the OP from the chain is the part that is still so staggering that it blows my mind. At any rate, there's so many other great features that could make tumblr better. There's so many things that could pull an audience back in, but I am honestly so very baffled at this not-problem that you seem to have been tasked with fixing.

If your plan is to incentivize engagement, sure, I'm on board with that! Twitter and the culture of fast-scroll-algorithms have destroyed engagement culture across the net and I'd love it if we could shake that off, but anything that allows someone to *hijack* an original poster's post is *not* the solution. Hopefully whatever you end up coming up with stays far, FAR away from that if you insist on tinkering with reblogs still. Please do not split the notes, do not cut the OP out of their posts' engagement (allow us to cut ourselves out if we want--which is already a feature since we can mute posts. This is the only way it should be, so, hey, again, problem already solved!). Just please let tumblr be tumblr. The literal only reason Twitter ever took *off* to the point it got to was because every other social media site on the net shot itself in the foot one after the other and people didn't have much of a choice. It was never THE place to be back then because it and its features, its display, its functions were *GOOD* for anything other than quick little quips and a few celebrities blogging about what they had for lunch. They only ever added features that allowed creators to post with any sort of decency *after* people started moving to it out of desperation (and even then, the auto-thumbnails suck, always have sucked, and still suck even after they finally let you upload bigger pics. It just sucks ass).

The fact that it took off with what is essentially YOUR, tumblr's, audience, was because the adult ban nuked tumblr's userbase.
