a lot k words but will have a p2 as my brain is fried
itâs third time in two days that inmate poindexter had been sent to the infirmary. technically you were only meant to stand in the corner and observe, maybe even the occasional passing of a supply. but of course with such an incredibly skilled whatever he was extra restraints were needed. maybe even emotional support.
so as he slowly descended into the creaking hospital bed you were motioned to begin adjust the straps on his arms and then those on his feet. why the actual doctor is currently allowing someone with less experience with violent patients to be so close to one is beyond you but questions arenât welcomed.
poindexterâs eyes are dead.
no life. no curiosity. no hope. just waiting, like he knows one of these days the relentless beatings heâs been trained to withstand may just be his last, or heâs already solidified his escape plan which is bound to fail because this is maximum security weâre talking about. this time itâs a stab; small incision to the abdomen most likely a razor that was a gift to another prison from a guard with a mutual abhorrence to him.
his face portrays no reaction to anything for that matter. not the pain that the even the strongest of humans would surely wince at, the tightening of the straps though you donât mean to hurt but if protocol says tighter then so be it.
just as the last strap is in place you look up at him. its up to the jury on the reason why. because when heâs staring so resolutely at the wall its easier to get a closer look at the scars heâs amassed from less then a week in gen pop. thatâs the preferred thought rather than the fact that your not one to feign ignorance over how attractive he may be.
a three second look isnât hurting anyone. especially not you.
itâs like he senses the slight tilt in your head because his eyes meet yours as soon as you do. face already contorted into one of disdain but you donât even focus on it. much more the sheer amount of scars littered on his face that dare you say made him look better.
Dr Eden clears his throat with warning and suddenly has no problem suddenly giving you some hands on work experience and tasks you with the suture. only folding his shirt upwards to give access to the wound and simultaneously revealing built abs that exceeded further than whatever you couldâve imagined. maybe hands on work wasnât so bad after all. dried blood appeared in a stream like form from the wound meaning the guards waited before even escorting him further down into the prison.
you start by lightly cleaning the wound, a cheap antiseptic and a cotton ball thatâs practically disintegrating, both able to work just enough to keep budgets low. itâs all easy enough to preform until youâre threading a needle.
it takes embarrassingly long, and arenât these supposed to be pre-threaded anyway?ââhey am i gonna get a real doctor?â. poindexter doesnât even acknowledge you instead his eyes are boring in to the man child that cowers in the corner.
you preferred when he stared at walls with no expression to his mocking smirk that suddenly makes you more insecure of your abilities than it should have been able to.
the doctor clears his throat before stepping further into the room and just now inspecting the need anyone remind him trainee who he should be training.
ânot everyone was born with the skills of consistent precision like you.â he chimes but the joke doesnât land whatsoever save for himself rather a feeble attempt to save face and claim a get outta jail free card if an escape is managed and vengeance.
âreal doctors are meant to be meticulous which takes longer. sorry if thatâs not up to par with mister fbi agent gone rougeââ that last string of words had no business moving from your brain to your mouth and now you feel physically sick.
âwhat the fuck did you just say.â he barks, voice sharp and a fist is already balling with no regard to the restraints nor the fact you can hear the faint sound of the officer to the side unholstering his gun.
rule 1 of dealing with known violently behaved patients is to minimise conversation between the two of you because their personal triggers are unknown. obviously you didnât take heed to that one and now youâre thinking of the ways he could hunt you down and murder you with something as simple as a thumbtack.
Dr Eden is already stepping into reprimand you and calling for a swift exit. you barely get 5 seconds to breath yourself due to the heavy breathing and constant noise of shackles lashing violently against each other and finally footsteps follow behind.
âyou donât come inside that room when heâs here anymore you hear me! i have enough trouble on my hands and i could go without you volunteering me to his hit list!â his voice ricochets off of every surface imaginable and your sure poindexter is listening with a sickening grin across his face, alongside that thought is another fantasy where you storm back in and do very minimal damage to him with the needle you just barely threaded.
âiâm not clear on how iâll get experience if i donât get to be there when the single patient we have is.â normally your tone would be less âstop bullshitting meâ and more singing his praises but something about that guys face and demeanour is just aggravating in its own.
.
.
it was finally settled that you would be semi-suspended for the next 2 days. meaning youâd only be present for the lower level patients (like there was any) and would leave the room and do whatever when more temporally challenged patients came along.
on your newfound break you found it was finally the time do some sort of exploring around your new workplace, obviously not the smartest decision but the confines of a medical room wasnât the prettiest sight day in and day out.
you found yourself at the reception talking to asia who you had met on your first day; she was indeed a saving grace of you first day when your boss was already pissed at you even though you just arrived.
âokay hear me out, wilson fisk.â asia laughs heartily like just the thought of him wasnât rancid as in your mind. she takes the lack of response as reason to go on. âlisten to me heâs huge, which also means heâs huge.â you practically gag at the innuendo because it might be the offensive thing youâd heard.
you decide to walk back towards the clinic because an eye wash is definitely needed. your mind definitely strayed further than it shouldâve.
you walk was strangely unsettling although everything was as it normally is. rowdy prisoners that clamber at the gate when anything remotely feminine walks past, guards barking orders which make trying to think about anything a forgotten haze.
itâs probably the overall environment and almost termination putting you on edge. but as you near the room you can hear whispers of pained grunts and sharp sounds through the air that meet a target.
youâre right in front of the door when it swings open revealing a guard and an array of bodies behind him. âwhat the fuck.â for someone who had to be told to quieten down numerous amount of times you could barely manage a half whisper.
the guard still stands over you hat lowered and a dark energy about him. looking up reveals the fact that itâs not only not a guard but the judge declared most dangerous prisoner thatâs most likely memorising your face to murder you when walking back to your apartment tonight.
his eyes meet yours and damn the god that gave him such a pretty face with one of the most deplorable characteristics to match. heâs already grinning with a bloody mouth and missing tooth before sliding past you and making his way to the reception.
right to the only friend that you had in this place but your feet are planted just outside of the room and head didnât dare to turn a millimetre. so silent pleading was your only option.
this mightâve have been the quietest slaughter to be recorded because everything resumes like your life might not have been put on pause permanently.
blood is splattered and dyes half of the furniture, one manâs eye is completely caved in and bloody, both halves of a pair of scissors are lodged into 2 peopleâs headsâ god itâs Doctor Eden and his eyes are stare right at you. this is the first time youâve seen anything like this up close and you feel frozen at the horror.
sure this was hellâs kitchen the most crime prevalent place to ever be but youâd not ever seen anything up close like this, or a person so close to you.
and it almost serves as his reminder that it might be you next.
when your finally able to muster up the strength to scream for help in a way youâd never expected officers are running in and suddenly everythingâs a blur.

dex has trying to balance the scales and tie up lose ends and since his hits on wilson keep getting districted by someone that should have the same objective as him heâs on to the latter.
wilson fisk shouldâve been dead by now. daredevil, rather murdock should want to kill fisk just as much as dex if not more. as a result of that heâs onto tying up loose ends now such as yourself.
heâs been surveiling your life for two weeks and itâs pretty obvious that you werenât going to say much. truth is any normal variant of him if it was possible would have stopped watching by now, with the occasional check ins because paranoia worked overtime in his mind.
when you made that comment it was like your words seeped themselves into his brain and played on repeat after every thought he had. he hated the fact that the first time he even heard your voice his reaction was so.. well reactive. heâs glad you left so you couldnât see the pure wrath painted on his face though heâs no stranger to the volume of his own voice and you definitely heard him outside.
that night he couldnât even try to fall asleep because he was ruminating on every time heâd seen you. watching through each memory and noticing each thing he ignored whilst stewing on fisk. the way that wimp with a doctor title retreated to the corner when dealing with him. sure dex would never hurt you in anyway but it makes him think about how many other times he put you in that position with other inmates.
and all of a sudden heâs sorry about his death. not for killing him but not doing worse to the body and telling you not to go in so you wouldnât see it. he couldnât move the bodies in time so he had no option to leave them but he wouldnât never do something so cruel to his sweetheart.
heâs seen you wake up in a sweat barely able to calm yourself down before getting to the kitchen and splashing your face with water. heâs pretty sure everyoneâs heard you blast obnoxiously loud music in attempts to drown out what you witnessed, which has put him off listening to anything forever longer than that.
sometimes like right now he fantasises about waiting into your apartment and playing hero, though he can barely help himself he'd hold and reassure you liked no watched in those not so stupid movies Dr Mercer prescribed and it would solidify the fact that you needed him just as much as he needed you.
if Mercer were here heâd tell him to keep going right? i mean you acted as the perfect contradiction to his presumed life of order and being around you would be exposure therapy of some sort. someone who is less into upkeep and the precision that he lives for to challenge and transform him.
you were so honest and truly had no regard for how violent he was when you spoke to him and thatâs what he needed. pure unbridled and brutal truth to fix him. people worse than him would take advantage of that and he could stop that.
he could help you.
sleeping became more of a chore than a necessity, the slightest noises including creaking of your door which you could still make out with music blasting into the space of your room were quick to wake you up. now dex was stealthy but no magician so he could only note that as something to fix when you on allowed him into your life fully.
still trying to fool your body into dormancy you squinted your eyes but noticed the dark figure stepping inside. you clambered to but your back against the bed frame and smashed the bedside light on only to reveal the nightmare that you've been having.
it's bullseye standing in your room but instead of the comically large thumbtack you've that you've been dreaming of he's got his mask of and is waving shyly like he's not murdered three people that you know of. the way that your features become sharp with detest makes him step back as if your best case scenario isnât him buried under a prison right now.
âhey.â he whispers, almost like heâs asking if itâs ok that heâs here when itâs so obviously not! âwhat the fuckâ you mouth gripping onto your sheets to gain some sort of grounding. his hand reaches out to provide some sort of solace but the sudden movement is enough to have you attempt to race to the bathroom.
of course itâs barely two steps before dex has his hands finding purchase on your shoulders and is trying to.. shush you? âiâm here to save you.â the tone of his words are sincere and so is his weirdly earnest smile like he believes them. âthe only saving i need is from you,â dexâs face falters at that afraid hes being met with the same rejection he suffered with before. his becomeshold now so you take the chance to push him away before shouting âwhat do you want from me poindexter!?â
hie voice is a shattered plead when he says, âhelp.. i just want help.â this couldnât be real. this grown man meant to be in maximum security wasnât begging a barely qualified assistant for help.
your lips were sewed shut because this had to be a disgustingly elaborate nightmare after overthinking it so much. but heâs really here in all his glory. in a suit that seems to tether to every inch of him. here in desperation for something your not even sure you have.
âhelp with what?â you sigh.
âi need to know youâll listen.â
dex doesnât get to the point infact anything but it. he rambles about guidance and a lady called mercer but nothing definite. he promises to stay away until you were ready to see him again and disappears into the dark like he hasnât just uprooted your whole being.

contains : reader lowkey cheating but itâs justified imo, toji being sukunas number 1 hater, sukuna being a bad husband but later trying to be better
this is part 1/?
life wasnt all bad considering you were married to the richest man youâd ever known. contrary to the elites words money does by happiness, just momentarily.
because as soon as your back from a shopping spree done rightâ weâre talking laces and silks that are guilt pleasures to the average personâ that happiness disintegrates the moment you step inside somewhere youâre meant to call home and are reminded of the absolute bleakness in every aspect of it.
now your sat in the same dressing room you have been which is starting to make you insane as the stark white light glares down on you. normally itâs the other way around where a husband watches in such great astonishment whilst his wife tries on a plethora of fabrics and hues, not a wife being told to rate 4 different blacks that look the exact same even to a trained eye.
âboring, boring and boring.â you sighed heavily, admiring yourself in the mirror that the brutes unnecessarily large frame dominates. sukuna adjusts his cufflinks for the hundredth time, stares as fondly as someone like him could at his reflection and motions the cashier over.
itâs almost taunts you. the blasĂŠ way he taps his card like the number of zeroâs are irrelevant makes you sick. something you once relished inâbecause who wouldnât. anything and everything that you wanted just waiting for your orders. it was great until it was all you had.
soon enough the spontaneous dinners and gifts that kept the marriage in its never ending honeymoon phase faded into black. replaced with wordless passings in hallways, strange men filtering in and out of the place you were supposed to call home and the tacky stench alcohol that refused to leave your side.
someone who gave you a promise land that he swore to share with you now practically lives in his office. first you thought sukuna clearly didnât want to be around you, then it was questioning the sanctity of the seemingly pointless marriage and it finally dawned on you that itâs not you he fell out of love with itâs his business that he just loves more.
he ignores your comment picking up his now blaring phone and walks away mumbling something about work as always and disappears. you wait around for a while, browsing your own options as the store clerk saunters over. smiling over the dresses colour and how it would match with yours but before you can even give her a polite smile sukuna is rushing in with a stern âcar. now.â like you were a child. like you had no agency of your own.
the drive is anything but the calm attitude that he tries to portray. his jaw ticks. eyes locked on outside the window like he reminiscing in something that stays forever unchanged. not to mention the wheel almost combusting at the amount of pressure on it.
âyou should speak your mind before you crash this car.â you snide and he lets out an annoyed sigh. âthe more you speak the more iâm inclined to.â the remark isnât foreign to him, almost like he mightâve considered it.
and they say romance is dead.
itâs weird how your lives have come to this, from the most lovey dovey couple that people came to admire and look to for imaginary relationship goals to two people who could only be in each others line of sight for so long before the tension was practically waving a bright green sign for all to see.
the gps chimes and a âREROUTINGâ alert pops up the screen, prompting you to look outside to the now unrecognisable route and then to sukunaâs lack of expression.
âyou havenât forgotten the way to your own house have you?â. taunting the person most cable of cutting your life short wasnât the smartest of things you could have done but heâs become so used to it that he only grunts in response before the car turns left and begins to slow on to a gravel path.
was this finally it? was he bringing you to a secret location where heâd murder you or worse, keep you estranged from anything and everything. he pulls into a discreet house nothing to broadcast really but not a shack just, quaint.
a man is already outside letting a cigarette fall to the ground as smoke clouds around him emphasising the ghastly visual. he smirks and its sharpâ goading like he wants to fight. when he reaches the car heâs already leaning on it like itâs his own, sukuna pays it no mind because thatâs most likely just him but it irks you in the strangest way.
sukuna steps out to talk out of earshot moving further into the unfamiliar territory, the man is barely focused on the conversation staring right past your husband and at you. maybe eye contact wasnât a strength of yours or maybe his was lethal either way you quickly found something on your phone to keep some sort of barrier between the two of you.
the distant voices come to a stop and the sound of gravel shifting towards you starts. âtoji,â sukuna introduces whilst the other stays silent, âprotection until i get some things sorted.â you scoff followed by an onslaught of words that no marigge with an inkling of normality would ever meet. he whispers a faint âyou done?â and youâre already storming away and into your new home.
the place is quiet, has an absence of humanity it it even could; bleak walls that just scream iâm gonna murder you.
you look around almost tripping over a black bag thatâs obviously out of place, but the sound of the door whining open is enough for you to draw your hand back from exploring. âfound something interesting?â toji asks lingering at the door, eyes tracking your slowing movements.
âyouâre staying here?â you ponder turning to meet a smile that is the slightest bit disingenuous.
âno weâre staying here.â
.
it was like you could literally feel the evil swirling around you but it was just toji. draped in all black to look somewhat smart but he managed to ruin that image with his mouth. a series of obscene words that created vivid images which for some reason he couldnât keep to himself. and pet names that no married woman would appreciate.
itâd been a couple days of tiptoeing around the house to avoid anymore interaction than needed but toni revels in the art of making people uncomfortable.
luckily for him sukuna wasnât much of the possessive angry type he was before so it made his stalker level planning safer, just like today.
like normal you woke up, ready to swiftly move in and out of the kitchen as to not be noticed. you stood infront of the stove, oil already splattering onto surfaces, and dragging your hands down your face wiping the sleep away.
mornings in the place were surprisingly calming with the low hums of whatever roamed outside and the hum of the running pond.
toji heard you. he always does. maybe because he wakes up at abnormal times and holds himself stiff against the mattress so you wouldnât be woken up. even though heâs been trained in the ways of sneaking aaround like a literal ninja.
he lies there and listens to your relentless grumbles because fair enough your whole world went to shit, a child that barely know how to run his own business for a husband. but you got a new house with a hot body guard so pros and cons.

Dex wasnât looking for a replacement for Julie. He was convinced she was his everything. The only one he could rely on in times of uncertainty. Stable, predictable, maybe convenient too. Her life was so out there- flashy in a way. Her bright red hair, toothy smile, and welcoming personality was perfect for him. A perfect north star.
When she was gone, so too was his stability. Everything just felt so out of reach. The routine was gone. His spare time was filled with anxiety over what to hold on to. So many nights where he crawled into a corner listening to those recorded therapy sessions again and again and again. There wasnât a guide any longer. Just him, all alone.
You were different from Julie. So different that initially Dex didnât bother to remember your name the first few times he encountered you at the front desk of the Presidential Hotel. He noticed new faces all the time and he categorized them into levels of presented threat. Yours was nonexistent and so too was his interest- at first.
Dex heard you speak once as he walked into the hotel and it stopped him. You were firm with a crease in your eyebrow as you said, âYou never say hi. Everyone else says hi.â
He stopped and looked around himself for a moment, unsure if it was actually him you were speaking to. âUh, neither do you.â He maneuvers backwards so that heâs in front of the desk now, towering above you as you sit in the small office chair. You smile a little and tilt your head.
âYou walk so fast I didnât think youâd hear me.â You let out a breath, something akin to a laugh. Are you laughing at him? Or is this meant to be playful? Dex smiles back regardless.
âWell, Iâll be sure to stop and say hi next timeâŚ.â He drifts off, looks at you expectantly.
You say your name and hold out your hand. It wasnât necessary, your name tag was shiny gold and impossible to miss, still Dex shakes your hand and introduces himself as Agent Poindexter.
âYeah, I know. Iâve sorta been following the whole Fisk thing.â You say, avoiding eye contact. He thinks you may be embarrassed to admit that you knew of him. That you would come off as a fan rather than a regular employee. He felt a small thrill at you knowing him before he knew you. It felt new. âI know you canât say anything about it- I just meant, I know the situation is all.â
âDonât worry about it.â Dex says. âI have to check in now, but Iâll be sure to slow down from now on, say hello.â You give a small noncommittal sound and a shrug and Dex turns it around in his mind for the rest of his shift. Something new to hold on to.Â
â
Days pass; Dex sees you occasionally at your usual post, but never at the right time it seems. When he walked in the day after having met you for the first time, you were speaking to two FBI agents and not looking at him. He makes his way past without a word.
Another day goes by and it seemed the conversation you were having on the phone was taking all of your attention. He strides along to the elevators with a clench in his jaw.
Dexâs skin itched on the third day when you were again too preoccupied with a stack of paper to even glance in his direction. He decided to approach you instead.
âGood morning.â He says, placing a black coffee down on the dark mahogany.Â
Your head snaps up at him and you remove a pen from your lips, âGood morning, Agent Poindexter.â
âPlease, just Dex is fine.â
âOkay, just Dex. Is that for me?â You nod at the coffee.
âOh, uh, you can have it if you want-â He reaches out to hand it to you almost immediately.
âIâm messing with you.â A smile appears on your lips, a little tight.
Dex laughs, âOf course.â He canât do this. He needed to know you better. Understand whatâs funny to you, what you take seriously, how you react to things. He had to know everything or this wouldnât work.
After what happened with Julie, her complete rejection of him, Dex swore to himself that he would never hinge his life on another person. He knew he would never find someone as good as her anyway, someone who could make him feel the way he felt when he watched her. He was the ocean- constantly moving, erratic, always on the precipice of destruction and she was unmoveable, his very own island. Until he ruined everything.
It wonât be like the last time, Dex thinks to himself that night. His car's headlights were off as he sat in the parking lot of your complex. The cold air seeped through the cracked windows as he tried to see into the slit of your window. It was small, but he saw movement at least. It seemed you were cautious. Another way you were not the same as Julie. All of your windows and doors remained locked and deadbolted. You carried pepper spray and a knife. You never wore heels or anything you couldnât run in. He finds it satisfying that youâre aware of your surroundings and that it looked like you could defend yourself. After all, there are some crazy people out there.
â
Dex had fallen into old habits. His mornings were spent outside of your gym. It seems like you enjoy an early start to your day so he had to adjust to the 5:00 am schedule. It was okay though, he got to see a different side to you. Someone active rather than stuck behind a desk for eight hours.
Most of the time his afternoons overlapped with yours and he could see you when he walked into the hotel. When it wasnât you behind the counter, his eyes shifted forward and his gait never slowed to greet the other receptionists. It would feel wrong if he did. Unnatural. He only said hi to you, that was yours. It felt agreed upon.Â
Evenings could be a gamble. Over the last few weeks, he has seen you go out to eat, stay home and watch tv, and once visit a gravesite. Always he noticed that you were alone. Dex never saw anyone visit or call you. He wonders if you liked it that way. It never seemed to affect your job performance, at least. He couldnât help but compare you to Julie. You were much more reserved than she was. Kind in nature, but practically a recluse. You never entertained a conversation that you didnât want to be a part of, you kept your eyes on exits like you could bolt any second. It was odd to say the least, but it fascinated him.Â
He began taking photos of you often. It was something he could look back on fondly when he was home and thinking of you. He created albums based on locations. He had some of you at home- those were very few as your window was almost never open. Many were of you walking to and from work. Then there were the ones of you in parks, cafes, diners. Your polite smile as you put in an order, you bending down to tie your shoe, tying your hair back in a pony tail, endless small things that Dex was enthralled with. Each image stirred something in him. A want or a need. Something akin to what he felt with Julie but different. He needed to know more than just facts, he needed to know you. See you up close, feel your breath on him.
Tonight he watches you on the security cameras of the hotel as you clock out for the day. He knows you donât have a car, so youâll be walking home in the dark. You donât live too far, but he never lets you walk by yourself. He matches your speed, slows when you slow, stops when you stop. If you heard the perfect matching rhythm of his shoes clicking on the pavement at the same time as yours, you donât show it. Your hair whips in the wind and you pull the thin jacket you have tighter to yourself. Dex imagines walking up beside you, placing his coat over your shoulders, maybe starting a conversation. You would grace him with one of your rare full smiles and say his name in that way that makes his stomach twist. He would slip his hand into yours and warm it instantly.
Dexâs hands clench in fists in his coat pockets as he continues to follow behind you. There wasnât any snow yet but he could tell it would come soon. You were unprepared for this type of weather. Not from New York. He hadnât had a chance to ask you, but he did have time to read some of your background check. He found your last name, last employers info, annual salary, and previous resident address- California. Definitely a long way from home. He would make it a point to address the topic naturally tomorrow.Â
â
Dex doesnât see you in the early morning, the paperwork he has to do keeps him up all night. On days like this he finds himself to be in a truly miserable mood. Officers and agents alike clear a path for him when he walks into the hotel, none making eye contact. But your eyes meet his the second he enters and you call over to him with a soft, âHi, Dex.âÂ
He notices that you are never overly enthusiastic. Any customer service voice that you may have put on with real guests was lost when you spoke to him and it made you feel more real to him. Like you saw him for who he was and accepted him completely.Â
He says your name like itâs self-soothing. He leans over the reception desk, already feeling lighter. âHow are you this morning?â For once he asks without knowing the answer.
âBad. I think I have a cold, couldnât go to the gym.â He notices a slight congested tone to your voice, a stuffy nose and sore throat maybe. Dex thinks this wouldnât have happened if he did what he thought about and gave you his coat.
âIâm sorry.â The words are brought out of him automatically. He wasnât sorry though, not really. He was annoyed. Annoyed that he didnât give you his jacket, annoyed that he wasted this morning not seeing you, and even more annoyed that you were most likely going to be calling off work the next couple days.
âThatâs okay. I have a bottle of dayquil and an endless supply of hotel tissues.â You try to lighten the mood. Dex notices your sleeveless blouse. Itâs of a thin material, a nice burgundy shade, but in no way optimal for the temperature outside or even inside. He feels like it's a chance to redeem himself.
âWhy donât you hold on to my jacket for today?â Just like he rehearsed in his head. You give him a questioning look and go to reply but before you can he says, âHere, have it. I always have an extra in my car.â Dex takes off his black wool-lined jacket and lays it on the counter. Hefty and a little oversized for you, but certainly nice and warm.Â
âI couldnât take your clothes-â You say with a shake to your head.
âYouâre not taking it, I'm giving it to you.â He says, still with a hand on the garment.Â
You reluctantly take it from him with a grateful smile, âThanks.â You put it on and Dex is instantly enamoured. He swallows at the sight of you in his clothes, a sign that you and him share something now. He wants to take a picture of you like this but he isnât sure how youâd react to that yet.Â
He clears his throat, âAnytime.â
You seem nervous now. Dex has to admit he enjoys the way you squirm a bit under his stare. âIâll have it back to you tomorrow, after I wash it. Iâve been meaning to get winter clothes, itâs just never on my radar when I leave here.â
He nods, âKeep it until you get something. Or hold onto it for good, I wouldnât mind.â His lips split to reveal his teeth in whatâs meant to be a flirting smile. âHow does someone who lives in this city not own a good coat?â He asks with a feigned ignorance.
âOh, Iâm not from here. Well actually I technically am, but I was moved out of state as a baby and I just moved back.âÂ
âWhat brought you back?â
âDeath in the family- my grandma.â
âIâm sorry for your loss.â
âThanks. We werenât very close, but it still hit me. I guess I also wanted a big change.â
âDid you get it?â
You look at him with a tilt to your head. It's a mannerism of yours heâs grown fond of. A way to show that you are attentive, all focus on him. He suddenly has an urge to walk behind the counter and slip his fingers into your hair, to maneuver you in whatever way he wishes. He wants to see your reaction to his touch- the surprise on your face when he leans down closer to you, hovers his lips over your own. Hear the gasp youâd make from his sudden closeness.
âYeah, I did.â You snap him out of his trance.
âGood.â
â
Dex uses what little free time he has from monitoring Fisk to monitor you. The cameras that are inside the penthouse switch to the front lobby when no one else is around. Since the FBI brought Fisk into this place, many law enforcement officials filtered in and out throughout the day. The hotel still functioned as a regular establishment, however. He watched you check in guests, take phone calls, walk to and from the restroom.
Dex had gotten your schedule (and all of the other receptionistsâ) from the hotelâs general manager when he lied about it being pertinent to the safety of the convict they were protecting. It was nearing the end of your shift when a man walked up to you. He watched you greet him with a smile, one he couldnât help but match through the screen. The video had no sound, but he saw the exchange go on for longer than usual and your face slowly contort into a frown. The man's body language started out normal and then became more hostile, presumably yelling as he pointed a finger in your face. Dex shot out of his chair and said to a passing agent, âCover me for a minute, will you?â
His blood pressure was rising the whole way down the elevator. A voice in his head told him to not overreact, that this is not a life or death situation. Still his hand was placed firmly on the handle of his gun, safety undone.
When Dex reached the lobby, the man was still there. His voice was loud enough to fill the entire space, causing a spectacle. âI donât give a shit what the police are doing, I booked this months ago! Do you know how to do your job? Do you? Because youâre looking at me like Iâm the crazy one, I just want my fucking room that was promised!â
Dex hears you respond in a controlled voice, âI understand your frustration and Iâm sorry that this mix up happened, but like I said, everyone who booked the penthouse floor was sent a notification of cancellation and a full refund due to an ongoing investigation-â
âYeah you already said that, I didnât receive shit!â The man continued as Dex approached.
âIs there a problem here?â A thin veil of control was placed over his words.
You looked up at him with a small shrug, âNo, just a misunderstanding-â
âI didnât misunderstand anything, lady. I gave you people thousands for that room and if I donât get it-â
âItâs just not possible-â You say.
âWhy donât we step over here.â Dex grabs a hold of the man's arm and leads him away from the counter. He shoots you a small reassuring smile before they disappear from sight, blocked by more passing guests whoâve lost interest in the situation.
âIf you donât calm the hell down and accept the situation for what it is, Iâm going to have to escort you from the premises." Dex stares at him with pinched eyebrows and a firm frown.
âGet your fuckin hand off me,â He shakes free from Dexâs grip. âI know my rights, youâre not gonna toss me out over this.â
Dex could say he was getting belligerent. Excessively hostile even. His finger twitched on the trigger of his glock. A deep breath, think about what you would say to him.Â
âIf you donât walk over to that counter in the next five seconds and apologize to the receptionist for being an asshole, then walk out of this place for good, I am going to tell everyone that you threatened a Federal Agent.â The man looked back at him shocked. âI will put your face on the floor and arrest you in front of all of these people, is that what you want?â His voice shakes just thinking about it. Excitement at the thought of twisting this idiotâs arm behind his back, stepping on his leg until he hears bone crack.
Instead, the man nods a little. Dex watched him saunter over to the counter where you were checking out a nice couple. He stays and watches you meet the man's eyes, barely overhears the short conversation.
âIâm sorry for getting angry with you.â You raise your eyebrows in surprise.Â
âThatâs alright, sir, I understand. We have other rooms available if you still wish to stay here-â
âNo Iâm leaving, thanks.â He huffs as he grabs his bag that was left on the floor and strides out. Dex releases a breath that heâs been holding onto. No blood spilled, a win in his books. He casually makes his way over to you as you begin to gather your belongings.
âThat was interesting.â He says and you look up at him with a small smile.
âThatâs a word for it.â You put on the coat he lent you and he feels lighter than before.
âI doubt heâll be coming back.â
âYeah, thanks for that. It wasnât really necessary though, dealing with the general public is kind of my job.â
âHe was aggressive.â Dex states. âIt couldâve become something worse, Iâve seen it happen.â
âYeah but honestly, stuff like that happens almost every day.â You grab your bag and water bottle and then start to walk around the counter where Dex stands.
âReally?â The thought is of no comfort to him. âThatâs not right.â You give him a small shrug as if to say âit is what it is.â âWhy donât I walk you home today? I wouldnât feel right letting you go alone when that guy could still be outside.â
Dex knew that man wouldnât be coming back nor sticking around after what he said to him, but this felt like a perfect in. âHow do you know Iâm walking? You know some people in this city own cars.â
He laughs to cover himself, âIâve seen you leave on foot a few times. I would think someone with a car would use it.â
You ask, âAre you sure? Donât wanna keep you any longer from your job.â
âIâm off now anyway.â He lies.
âOkay,â You relent. Dex hadnât been this physically close to you before now. Your arm brushes his as you leave the lobby together and he wants more. He stays beside you down the steps of the hotel, a hand positioned at the small of your back, not quite touching though. The weather makes the sky grow darker despite it being early in the evening. Everything is gray and blue, but the street lights illuminate the soft features of your face.Â
âDo you make it a habit to be the savior type?â You ask. He watches the cloud of your breath float into the sky, small flakes of snow fall onto your head.
âSavior? Uh- havenât thought of it that way.â
âWell, you are an FBI agent. Thatâs important work. Youâve probably saved a lot of lives.â
Dex hums in thought, âIâm very lucky to do what I do.â He tries to pivot the conversation away from himself and his work. He needs to learn more about you. Your interests, things he hasnât seen for himself. âDo you like your job?â
âLikeâs a strong word. It works for me. I have experience in customer service, like most people.â It tells him nothing he doesnât already know.
âWhat do you wish you could do, if there was anything?â
You look up at him and he swallows. âWell Iâve thought about joining the peace corps maybe. Or one of those volunteer crusades to save the ocean. I think anything that actually gives back to people- communities would be nice. Fulfilling.â
Dex felt then that heâd made the right choice in picking you. It wasnât that you were nice to him or that it was easy because you were friendless and alone, no you were good. You were perfect.
âThat sounds interesting.â He says, a little breathless. His legs take longer strides than yours and he has to force himself to slow down to match you. Your hands stay inside your coat pockets as a shiver runs through you. Dex knows the two of you are only a block away now from your apartment. He wants this to go longer so he can learn more.
âYeah, but Iâve never made any real effort to join. I guess Iâm scared of the unknown.â You glance at him and then away.
Dex wants to reach out and pull you into his side. His arm wrapped tightly around your shoulders, any shiver from the cold weather long gone. He imagines you sinking into him, allowing yourself to finally relax.Â
He snaps out of the daydream when he feels your hand on his arm, âThanks again for stepping in earlier with that guy.â Youâve stopped walking so you could turn and face him fully. Your home was still a good distance away. Did you not trust him to know where you lived? Very cautious.
âOf course. Just doing what anyone would.â
For the first time that Dex has seen, you give a full fledged smile. A real one, not tight-lipped or hidden behind your hand. He matches it with one of his own. âIâll see you tomorrow?â
He wouldnât be at the hotel tomorrow for work, but still he says. âIâll see you tomorrow.â
â
Dex is falling even harder into some old habits. He follows you religiously from home to the gym, from the gym back home, then to work. He feels no time pass as he watches. He placed a listening device in your purse on his walk home with you last night. One so tiny it would appear as junk if you ever cleaned it out. He listens to your pleasant passing remarks to people.
âMay I get a vanilla latte, sugar free. Thank you.â You stand just outside the hotel on the corner, ordering hot coffee from a booth. Still you wear his jacket, like you know heâs watching and you want him to see you in it. A pleasant warmth spreads through him at the thought. You check your watch and look around yourself, like youâre waiting for something. Someone. Him?
The woman at the booth calls your name and you grab it with a grateful smile, handing the lady cash as a tip. Dex hears and sees you pace a bit outside. After a few minutes, you walk inside to start your work day. If it was him you were waiting for, maybe he should go in? Then he would have to explain to his colleagues what he was doing there on his day off. He stays put inside his car. He has his scope so he can see you perfectly through the glass doors.Â
Your work day is mostly uneventful. He sees you smile and greet people that approach you. You help an older man with his baggage because none of the bellmen were available. He watches you give directions to nearby tourist sights. Dex feels calm as he observes everything from a safe distance. A new island was forming for him.
When the day passes and you are set free from your position, he watches as you gather your things and make your way outside. However, this is the first time he sees that youâre not alone. Another receptionist you work with walks out with you. A man about your age, dark hair, dark eyes. Dex watches you talk to him in an eager way that irks him. The man is moving his hands around as he tells some story about a rude guest and he hears your laugh.
The voices are a little muffled from the small mic being smothered by your personal items, but he can make out their conversation. âI told her we donât offer a complimentary lunch, that we only do breakfast and she started screaming at me!â
Dex sees the two of you stop at the bottom of the stairs. âWhatâd you say?â You ask.
âI couldnât say anything, she wouldnât let me get a word out! She was talking about how âdonât you know who I am, donât you know who my husband is, and why isnât anyone here trained.ââ
You laugh some more and say, âThatâs insane, sorry I missed it.â
âYeah well, you were too busy looking for Special Agent Poindexter.â His tone was suggestive and Dexâs ears perked at the sound of his name.
âShut up.â You shoved at him.
âHey, Iâve been telling you for weeks heâs obsessed with you.â The insinuation irritated him. Obsession was not what he was involved in. It implies ill intentions. Dex would never, ever hurt you or allow anyone to hurt you.
âI donât know where you got that from and donât spread it around.â
âMaybe from the way he comes down to the lobby for every lunch break he has ever since you guys met. He sits in that cafe and stares at you the whole time, itâs creepy.â
Dex had no idea anyone else was even around when he would do that. At first, it was enough to watch you on the monitors. But when it became clear that he wanted more, it was easy to convince himself that it was necessary. If he stayed upstairs at all times, he was too far away from you. You couldnât leave your area so it was up to him to come to you. Was this guy always there working with you? He left no impression.
âIâve never once seen that happen. I think youâre lying.â You laugh a little uncomfortably. If this man doesnât back off in the next minute, Dex plans to get out of the car.
âOh my god youâre so blind. I overheard him ask for your schedule.â
âNow I know youâre messing with me, Danny.â
Danny, DannyâŚ. The name doesnât ring a bell. Just another face in the crowd that surrounds you.Â
âNo, I swear. Okay, well technically he asked for everyone's schedules, but still.â
âSee, that proves itâs not about me. Itâs probably related to the whole Fisk thing. They need to know whoâs working when, in case something happens.â It was fascinating listening to you defend him. It was the exact reasoning he used as well.Â
âYeah okay, what about the fact he doesnât speak to anyone but you that works here?â
âHeâs shy.â
âYeah, right. A shy FBI agent.â
Dex watches you shake your head. He would need to be more vigilant if he wanted to keep this up. Clearly he isnât the only one watching.
âI like him. Heâs a little awkward, kind of cagey, but heâs nice to me.â You say, averting eye contact with Danny. âAnd so what if he did like me too? Is that wrong?â
Danny puts his hands up in a gesture of relenting, âNo, not at all. Just be careful.â
âI like him,â you said. I like him, I like him⌠Dex felt an earlier annoyance being replaced with something different. Something hot and sharp. Desire.Â
He sees the two go their separate ways. He turns all the things you said over and over in his mind. He knew that this feeling wasnât one way. You enjoyed him speaking to you, enjoyed his company. Others noticed it too. A calm settled through him as he continued to watch you disappear further down the sidewalk.
Tonight he will watch as you take yourself to the closest diner to your complex. A usual spot for you when you donât feel like cooking. The waitress knows your name and your order, you smile and eat your food quietly alone. Always, youâre alone. Heâs never seen you even go out with coworkers after a long day. Is it by choice? Are you lonely? He knows what loneliness feels like. An aching hollow feeling.Â
Dex gets out of the car after putting away his scope and makes his way over to the front of the diner. His eyes remain intentionally forward, not wandering the way he wants to. He is greeted by the same waitress that tended to you and he asks for a booth nearby where he knows youâre still sitting. The blond haired waitress wears a name tag that says Penny and as she leads him over, he allows himself to look over in your direction- your eyes are already on him. A thrill shoots through him.
âDex?â You ask, surprised.Â
He feigns his own surprise as he says your name, âFunny seeing you here.â
âYeah,â you say, âweird coincidence.â
âWould you two like to sit together?â Penny asks, still holding a menu and looking between them. They answer at the same time.
âSure.â âYeah, if thatâs ok-âÂ
Penny puts the menu down at your booth across from you and says, âIâll give you guys a minute.â
âThanks.â You say back. Dex watches you watch him. He tries to be nonchalant, like all of this was some type of fate.
âI didnât see you today. I thought maybe you were avoiding me.â You say lightheartedly.
Dex tsks and shakes his head. âNever. I just forgot I had made plans today. Tons of errands.â
âTell me about it?â
He didnât like to lie to you but the truth wasnât an option. Not after last time. âJust boring things. I had to switch bank accounts, then grocery shopping, some other stuff⌠I just realized Iâd forgotten to eat today when I walked past this place.â
âWell you picked a good spot. Theyâre 24 hours which is convenient for me since itâs so close. Do you live around here?â
He lived several miles away. âSort of, but a lot of the time I end up spending my nights at the hotel anyway.â
That sounded reasonable. Plausible even. âRight of course.â
âTell me about your day.â He says, leaning forwards with his hands clasped in front of him.Â
âOh itâs always the same, you knowâŚâ You trail off and look away from him. He didnât like it much. Dex thinks that youâre not used to this, whatever it is. A date? It feels a lot like a date.
âIâve noticed you donât like talking about your personal life much.â Dex says, testing the waters.
You donât say anything for a moment, just look at him with an ace of a poker face. He thinks you may just stay like that the rest of the night until you say, âIâve had it used against me.â
Dex is taken back for a second. âIn what way?â
You consider your words, tilting your head. Instinctively Dex matches the movement. âI was seeing someone⌠before I moved here.â
âA boyfriend?â He asks a little quicker than he shouldâve.
You nod, âIt wasnât long, only saw him for about six months. But he was nice, very good to me. Said everything I wanted to hearâŚâ
Dex doesnât say anything, just waits for you to continue. His breathing is controlled so he doesnât reveal how frustrated this new information makes him. You had someone, not anymore, but you did have someone.Â
âA way too long story short, he wasnât who I thought.â You shrug, looking down at your food. âI filed a restraining order. It didnât work, heâd show up at my home, my job, when I went out with friends. It felt like a living nightmare.â
Dex is enthralled in your story, listening intently. What kind of a person would terrorize you like that? Violate you in that way. He thinks about what heâs been doing, how necessary it seems now to protect you. He wants only to learn about and understand you, never to scare you the way this piece of shit sought out to do, to invade your privacy and intimidate you. He would never ever do that.
âI didnât lie before. When my grandma passed away, I just came to clean out her apartment. But then I thought I could stay. That this was my opportunity to get away from him.â You look at Dex almost guilty. âItâs difficult to start from scratch.â
âDid he hit you?â He wouldnât have asked so bluntly but he canât contain it. His emotions have always ruled him, an anger that simmered beneath his surface constantly clawed for an escape. One wrong decision based on his feelings and he was back to square one. But not now. Now he has you. His teeth grind with the effort it takes to mask a rage he hadnât felt since he was a boy.
You look at him in a knowing sort of way. Nothing you say will make him feel better, he knows, but he wants to hear you anyway. âI was lucky.â It sounded more like you were talking to yourself than him. âA lot of women donât make it out of those kinds of situations.âÂ
A confirmation if not a direct yes. He hears blood pumping in his ears, a new wave of unfiltered anger seeping into every corner within himself. On the outside he is as solid as a statue. His face reveals less than nothing.
âThat mustâve been really hard.â He hears himself say.
You laugh, despite yourself. It goes from a short sound to a full on outburst. Heâs never seen you like that before, he thinks. âYeah,â you say, still giggling in between, âyeah it was.â Tears from laughter form at the corners of your eyes.
âIâm sorry- Iâm not good at saying the right things-â Dex begins but you cut him off.
âNo itâs uh,â You giggle again, âthat was good.â
Penny had come back around then, Dex ordered a black coffee for himself and some breakfast food. He asked if you wanted anything else, to which you said no thank you.
âIf you ever feel unsafe, I need you to know that you can come to me.â Dex says to you, trying to catch your eye to let you know he was serious.
You settle a little, eat the last remaining bite of your food before saying, âThanks Dex.â You clear your throat. âItâs not easy making friends in a new place, but youâve been⌠well, thanks.â
The tension in his body starts to dissipate if only a little bit. âI know what it's like to be the odd one out.â He replies.
Penny brings his food and coffee, they speak some more about themselves, their jobs and families. Dex tells you that heâs alone in the city, no partner or spouse. He opens up about playing baseball as a kid, how great he was at it. He doesnât go into why he stopped playing. You ask about how he became an FBI agent, he tells you all about his training. An hour flew past and there was never a lull in conversation.
He knows now that your family moved out of New York originally because most of your extended family was already out in California. He has to pry some information out of you when it comes to anything truly personal, like what your parents are like or how your upbringing was on the west coast. Youâd get evasive, but not in a rude way. Always tip toeing the line between not saying enough or saying too much. Dex felt like a prosecutor in a court room, grilling the defendant.
You check your watch and sigh a little. âIf I donât go to bed soon Iâll never wake up for the morning shift.â
âCall off.â Dex jokes.
You smile at him and shake your head, âI need all the money I can get. I thought LA rent was bad.â You mutter.
He doesnât want to stop talking to you but he also wants you to get some rest. If he could just pause this moment for a while he would be the happiest man on earth.
âWhat time do you work tomorrow?â He asks as if he didnât know.
â6:30 but I picked up someoneâs evening so Iâll be there until 8:00pm.â
âThatâs over twelve hours.â He says with a crease in his brow.
âYeah, Iâll be dead in my seat by the time I leave but the OT is good.â You sip on your long-since forgotten coffee and cringe at the cold liquid.
He doesnât like the idea of you being overworked and exhausted. Maybe he could bring you something to get through it. Luckily he was working tomorrow, he would be there early and staying late.
âIt was nice talking with you.â You say as the two of you slip outside in the freezing cold air. âI havenât done something like this in a long while.â
Dex smiles down at you, âWe could do it again, if youâd like.â
You smile back and nod, âYeah, Iâd like that.â

yuji had slowly started to reclaim sukunaâs apartment as his own under the guise of missing his favourite and only uncle when really it was the only place he could play his games freely after getting grounded for eons.
again you look around at the seemingly invisible things then turn back to the chef with a grin that could only be described as plotting.
âdonât look at me like that.â he sighs. the sounds of the knife hitting the chopping board gradually quietens before he moves to face you, palms planted on the counter.

gojo stared intently through the glass panes encasing your office like you were some obscure painting with meaning only a scholar could understand. manilla file crumpling under freshly bitten nails. sure heâd been to art exhibits, in depth explanations about the mona lisa in the louvre but nothing made zero sense yet was so clear like you.
your father owned a publication company and often had you featured on shoots. eventually youâd fallen in love with his magazine branch, creating layouts that would entice readers helping stylists and seamstresses create what belonged on the centre page.
fortunately for gojo his father wanted to expand whatever business he had towards the fashion space. originally he wanted someone that was actually interested in fashion to be a part of his small operation but satoru was just too eager to go. and why wouldnât dear old dad listen to his golden childâs wantsâ and giving his own employees a break from the white haired terrorist.
sukuna approaches with the same smirk always present when he catches his oh so nervous friend on his way to your office. he never understood why, i mean somehow the âking of the fratâ persona disintegrated whenever your name was breathed or he caught the slightest glimpse of you.
what he didnât know that gojo became the very weirdo that the two of them hated. a higuruma or a nanami. a nerd.
no he wasnât reading fashion books so he could have something to relate to you with. it was like he was fifteen again except he was a grown ass man with a horrible infatuation.
the first time gojo heard of you he searched everywhere for any shoots your face was on and ripped out the page hiding his collection in some scared shoe box. learned the names and faces of all your exâs and swore heâd make sure they never neared you again.
scribbling their pictures out like it actually affected them but it made him feel like he did something. like he was saving you. in reality he looked crazy muttering things that could pass for incantations as he ripped up the blonde standing next to you.
when his father miraculously had ties with you and your father he couldnât let you go.
getting the job was easy because nepotism?
but keeping it was taking effort heâd never used before. you didnât drink coffee so there was no runs to a cafe across the street. heâd have to walk to some specific ass place with your specific ass order and get back all within some timeframe that only you were privy to.
if he came in the middle of a meeting youâd get angry and not speak to him for the rest of the day last time that happened he refused to leave your side whether you spared him a glance or not.
he sat across from you making jokes that were so unfunny they forced you to crack a smile. he stood next to you nudging your side until you stepped away from him or the very rare occasion that you followed suit.
in short gojo became the most persistent person you knew, but weirdly the most encouraging?
â
the first time he was convinced he wasnât a parasocial loser is when you had some fancy dinner with your father and investors. he sat before you as he always did picking up and playing with everything he could no matter the material or the price tag.
his eyes tracked you standing in front of the gold rimmed mirror your hands readjusting everywhere you could, the hem and straps the sides that didnât move no matter how much you picked at them.
your skin glowed against the warm lights above the lip gloss you had on catching it. âstress gives you wrinkles.â he chimes pen twisting between his fingers. your eyes shift from the mirror to him in a stupidly nice looking suit and a tie that somehow matched his eyes; he leaned back in the chair watching your mouth open to speak but only a deep sigh comes out.
âcanât take a joke?â
âno i canât mess this up.â
âwell your the smartest person i knowâ he pauses lips curving upwards, âwhich is saying something because iâm like a child genius.â he rushes out bracing himself for something physical or verbal to hit him. âyour need to make everything about you always ruins every moment.â
âso this was a moment?â he teases finally dropping the pen and resting his head on his palm.
âyou wish.â
but when he saw you getting stressed at the dinner his pinky met yours underneath the table. and in the car back but whoâs counting.
â
âsure sheâs a pretty piece of ass but i just donât get why youâre so worked up over her.â gojo has to tear his eyes off you to respond. âsheâs not a piece of ass don't say that. sheâs.. amazing.â sukuna stares at the love stuck man with mix of pity and disgust.
âcanât tell if youâre the campusâs favourite alcoholic suddenly reformed or if youâre some weird sensitive ass clone.â
âfuck are you talking about?â gojo questions eyes narrowing at his friend.
âlook around bro, thereâs models everywhere. no point begging to score with the one that only cares about the job.â
âbro iââ
âand you of all people becoming all feminist? all âdonât call her thatâ do you hear yourself? youâre not a changed man because you stepped into a suit and tie. remember that.â
âiââ
sukuna give him one last pat on the back before sauntering away.
and you sat oblivious to the worry outside your eyes stay glued to the monitor reading another email along the lines of a models complaint of another stealing a dressing room. âsatoru.â you call and that stops him from starting another childish fight with sukuna and disturbing the whole office. he walks quickly to the transparent door accidently dropping his folder trying to grab the handle. you turn your face and smooth your hair trying not to make him more embarrassed than he was.
âstella and kasey.â you start his voice is small when he returns a âyes?â hesitating before stepping closer to your desk. âim sure youâve been acquainted with them. itâd be good if you could fix whatever issues they have between them.
âi can, i will.â he breathes. âgood.â you pause.
you werenât supposed to be interested in where he came from and you didnât care. but it'd be a lie if him being a millionaires child set up for life then coming to work for a fashion magazine when he barely knew anything about fashionâ you were pretty sure a girlfriend maybe even his mother was dressing himâ didnât peak your interest âiâm curious as to why you wanted this job? i highly doubt your into fashion or magazine in general.â you pause, âwhat is it that you want satoru?â
the first thing that came to mind to say was you but he obviously couldn't say that he saw you on one of the covers and that night and did the most research he's ever done on anything before. heâd probably be fired from the magazine for being a creep, meaning away from you and he didnât even want to think off the bullshit his dad would have for him.
âwanted to venture into a new space.â that was a lie; he couldnât care less about fashion hell all he knew was polo shorts and kakiâs because clothes had nothing to do with status, money had the final say. which meant he had to adjust heavily to the glamour that was the first stage of acceptance in the company. âdonât believe you but i don't care, file.â
âr-right, the models not available for the new years shoot.â he hands the file over brief contact sending adrenaline throughout him. âstop staring into the distance this is half my call sheet.â he scans your frame as if the answers lie within the stiches. plus looking at you wouldnât hurt. âgod gojo have you ever been given a job?â his brows furrow your tone a stark contrast to the praise he was used to receiving from peers as well as adults back home. he looks as if heâs barely registering what youâve said and your voice raises. âhave you ever done it well?â
he blinks caught off guard by the straightforward questions. were they rhetorical? would you scream at him if he answered?â would you scream at him if he didnât?
âand thereâs no reasons how can i approve absences with no reasonsâ nevermind iâll get a different assistant because mine clearly doesnât know what heâs doing.â he stands straighter hands darting out as if thatâs any consolation blurting, âno!.. i mean iâll stay back its my job.â
âyou? stay back?â your eyes were practically puncturing into his. âi wanna do good for youâ my job. and you..â he clears his throat now looking at everything but you.
just kill me already
âyou can uh.. go now.â
later that evening you saw him sat at his desk office phone in hand and what looked like multiple calls left âgojo.â you hummed stopping beside his chair. his eyes dart up only to fall back on the sheets in front of him. âdo you want help?â you offer lightly moving the papers for a clearer view. he shakes his head quickly thinking if he takes to hard path you'll like him more. âits not a test iâm offering.â
after you give him a small genuine smile he finally agrees, only planning to stay a small while you sit on the edge of the desk. he doesnât move at the action but you hear the slowing of his breaths, could see his hand holding the phone tighter. that continues through out the whole interaction, youâd ask something and heâd just give short incoherent responses or him refusing to look at you but if he did he wouldn't stop.
âwhat is it.â you sigh voice soft and in his mind inviting. satoru stays silent internally weighing his chances of getting fired for what heâs about to do. regardless he leans up to press hesitant but somehow rushed kiss to your lips. your eyes instinctively fall and you try to force them open anything to stop yourself from melting into the stupid kiss, into him.
when you reluctantly break away he looks up at you with familiar nervousness in his eyesâwhich didn't even share a fraction of the panic he housedâthe same nervousness you caught when he stared into your side profile thinking you werenât watching. the nervousness that followed every word he spoke to you making him second guess everything even though he knew it to be true.
you didnât say anything even though he waited for what felt like hours no spoken saviour came to shield him from the embarrassment. he whispers a small âfuck.â before crushing all the papers into his bag and rushing to the exit.
âsatoru,â you call voice no longer carrying the light tone it once had. instead something craving and breathy.
he stops. he didn't want to but who was he if not yours. he didn't look back not yet what if he saw pity in your eyes.
he's satoru gojo no one has or will pity him. fuck he was meant to be ontop of things, maybe coming here was stupid anâ
âcome back.â he follows your as soon as the honeyed words fall from your lips, not taking anytime to drop the bag and make his way back. his eyes become shielded as your perfume invades his sense making every little action surreal.
your fingertips lightly guide a timid gojo's face to yours. he takes deep unbelieving breaths every time your lips meet. now leaning closerâpushing closer with sheer desperation and dropping each hand to your sides as an act of protection.
god he was going to die.
that was the start of side glances gojo couldnât explain to anyone and late night finishing touches happening more often. his heart hammered each time but he couldnât help wanting more so that he didn't feel like a kid with a hallway crush.
â
in five minutes anthony beaumont became gojoâs sworn enemy. the way he stared at you like he had a chance. well he didnât because your picked the guy with pretty blue eyes right. right?
âmr beaumont lovely to see you.â you smiled, practiced, because youâd done this a million times before. so the small tilt of your head that came when he asked a question meant nothing. as did the sound of playful laughter you directed into your palm when he leant in to say whatever bullshit he had in mind.
it all meant nothing. but why was that nothing building in gojoâs chest and worsening his self doubt. why did it discourage him from walking over there and making a scene like he usually did.
he couldnât handle it but tearing his eyes from you was impossible let alone forcing his body to turn away from a conversation he wasnât even a part of. so he stood. silent. angry.
glaring.
he whispers a half assed joke into your hair, one that shouldnât have got the response it did. that shy laugh that becomes a downturned smile. it was his meant to be reserved for satoru only and there it went presented to an undeserving asshole. you didnât even look at him refusing to stop networking, no wordless reassurance like a small smile or even mouthing a small hi and waving.
he stalks over, regardless of age still taller than you and beaumont. âtoru.â you smile holding his fore arm and bringing him closer. maybe the alcohol made you forget about all the secrecy but he wasnât complaining. the anger that carried him over was slowly fleeting at the warm touches but the scowl on his face was still present.
âthe assistant right?â he questions. the dismissive words pool in his head. is that what youâd called him? is that all he was? âfuck is that supposed to mean.â his fists were already clenching ready to meet that âperfectâ face. you roll your eyes at the outburst setting down the champagne flute and pressing a soft hand to his chest. âexcuse us anthony, apparently he doesnât know his job title.â
the two of you walk into your office; you barely make it over the armrest legs dangling over the side. âare you kidding me?!â satoru shouts standing over you all while making sure youâre sitting properly and the glass was on privacy mode. his features wrung with anger.
âplease toru im pretty sure the room is like spinning.â he dismisses your words volume still increased. âsecret doesnât mean you canât tell him to fuck off!â
âand lose my dadâs investors yeah right.â letting out accidental snort he watches you laugh at your own actions.
âheâs not even funny,â he sighs dragging a hand down his face veins becoming distinct with each flex. âall my dog jumped in the pool, no one even cares about his stupid dog!â
âhey i like dogs.â you whine, wide smile on your face oblivious to the torment on his.
âno you like me!â he thundered. his distorted and pleading voice takes you out of your dizzy state. he took a liking the deceitfulness of the relationship, sneaking into the store rooms then planning your separate escapes, memorising your face every time the two of you indulged in each other then acting like he didnât even remember the colour of your shirtâ it was pink something you'd picked out with him on facetime but i digress.
but at the same time heâs filled with disgust every time he sees you having anything to do with another guy. because they didnât get how you practically tired your self out when you spoke about things with passion or your weird love for extinct animals heâd never even heard of. but he got it. you.
sure he was jealous guy but he trusted you. and now every conflicting feeling was pushing him to his limits.
without his consent one tear then another trickles down his face, it doesnât help that you look at him with those big eyes filled with pity. âaw toru.â you coo the sight bringing a small pout to your face. your tone ran cloying melting the wall he was trying to build between the two of you.
he steps back as you stand hiding his face in his elbow as if itâll stop the overwhelming feeling. you take his hands in yours swinging them as you wait for him to finally look at you. ââm not a baby stop it.â he sniffles staring down at your manicured fingers in his.. well not so taken care of hands. âthought you were my baby.â you sing peering through his shelter.
he can't help the boyish grin adorning his face before he quickly squints it into an attempt at an expressionless one.
muffled music and laughter thrums at the door but the two of you stay swaying to no beat in the office space. âme having conversations with people is always going to happen. doesn't mean that my feelings suddenly disappear.â a frown flickers on his face as his thumbs rub small circles on your hands. he gives a lacklustre mhm.
âplus, you were right he is so boring compared to you.â you add giving him a lopsided grin of your own cocking your head slightly, and as he returns the gesture with a dimpled smile the two of you burst out in laughter. âim just always right what can i say.â

rafe gets into a fight with his dad and finally makes the call instead of lingering
âyou shut your fuckin mouth rafe! think you can step up for me? fuckin failure that's what you are!â ward's backed rafe into a corner now pushing him with every word. at first rafe tried to defend himself, y'know get a couple words before his fathers became too real. too true.
ward gives him a final look of disgust before pushing rafe's head back once more and slamming the door. rafe screams throwing the lamp beside him causing glass to skid across the polished wooden floors. âfucking failure my ass, i've done the most for this bullshit family. don't see sarah going out of her way to help anyone of us.â rafe continues to shout ignoring the fact that the rest of his family was still trying to fall asleep.
all he could think of was running back to his room and calling you, but he couldn't. not because you blocked him or anything you were too indifferent for that, and it scared him. scared him enough to not call for two months and fall back into his deplorable party life.
everyone noticed because even a blind man could see rafe wasn't as great as he wanted to be. the excess usage and anger, swallowing anything in a red solo cup like it was second nature. but no one cared enough to mention it and if they did they weren't ready to meet his wrath over a simple âare you okay?â
topper and kelce were fine with it because they finally got their friend back from the oh so evil witch that tried steer him on the right path. so as soon as rafe started declining the fancy parties or the borderline aa meetings they decided you ruined him. sarah barely interacted with him due to his violent outbursts becoming more common even when you were with him she kept a safe distance. he'd burnt so many bridges that the only ones that remained were pulling him further down.
rafe hurried up the stairs like his footsteps volume would cover the soft sniffles that refused to stop. to make matters worse whilst running he stubbed his toe and as per usual he made it a problem for everyone in the house. âfuck!â he screams. âstupid fuckin stairs.â
he finally gets to his room and scrambles for his phone before curling up on his bed and hesitantly bringing his finger to call the contact 'my pretty girl'. he didn't change it, couldn't bring himself to because somewhere in that twisted mind of his he held hope that you wouldn't leave. that you guys would get back together and everything would be perfect again.
at the same time he also knew you were always clear on your boundaries but one call for peace of mind was worth whatever punishment he got and if it was from you he'd be fine.
you're forced awake as your ringtone blares in your ears a single 'x' on the screen. âhello?â you yawn. rafe doesn't reply at first; sure he's thought about this moment a trillion times but having it play out the same as his dreams wasn't expected. âi need you.â he cries, trying to calm himself with the sound of soft breaths and muffled jazz on the other side. you roll your eyes having remembered you explicitly instructing him not to contact you again. it was only meant to be for a week or two but seeing how peaceful life was without rafe just extended your timing.
âwrong number rafe you need a therapist.â âno no no i just need you just stay on the phone...please?â his whiny voice brought a subtle grin to your face, after all begging is one of the many ways to your heart so you decided to humour him. âwhat is it rafe?â
he breathes raggedly in attempts to go back to his normal self. âmy uh dad.â he sniffles with every word and it almost makes you feel bad for the guy. almost. âdo i have to remind you of how good you're doing without me?â rafe groans forcing his head further into his pillow, after the breakup he'd spammed you with texts that relayed the same message of him not needing you and when he got no response he just got more embarrassed.
âi don't wanna be better jus' yours i swear. i promise i promise.â he repeats the words like theyâre prayer tiring himself out every time he speaks. you let out a blithe giggle that calls him closer to the phone. âyou were mine rafey.â your teeth caught your bottom lip. âbut you're insensitive and i'm not.â âi know your the kindest most prettiest girl in the world baby and i don't wanna be me if you don't like it.â âdon't flatter me rafe.â you purred rolling your eyes at the smile his words gifted you.
âyou deserve it. not any of the shit i put you through.â âyou can't respect me and not yourself rafe. its not good for you.â he groans ânothingâs good for me except you.â the two of you sit in silence processing the words just exchanged. âyou wanna come over.â he murmurs cautiously hiding his face from the phone as if you were watching his every move. ânow why would i come to you.â âsorry i'm sorry. can i come over?â
you pause already knowing your answer but to have him struggle with the suspense is an opportunity you couldn't pass up. âhmmm. but youâre not nice rafey not to me not to a lot of people.â your words were like a stab to the chest especially with their candied tone. he sat up quickly forcing his brain to find anything to convince you. âc'mon i gotta see you baby. iâll be good iâll be nice ill be whatever you need me to be. iâll apologise to you and anyone you want i swear it.â
âalright alright just bring me some snacks will you?â
sure enough rafe grabs his keys and runs to kitchen grabbing any snack he thought you'd like. he gets to his car dropping the bag in the passenger before speeding off. he almost runs a red with his eagerness but who was to blame him he was gonna see his girl even if it was only for the one night.
the tires screeched against the gravel from your driveway signalling his arrival though it took 10 minutes or so for him to actually open the door. rafe spent the first five telling himself to be normal and strangling the wheel to death and the next pacing infront of your door which was entertaining to watch from the camera.
when he finally grabbed the key from under the plant potâbecause you knew he was never going to disrespect you like that and force you to change itâs placeâhe creeped up the stairs bag awkwardly swaying with each step before reaching your room. ârafe?â he took that as invitation to come in but before you could give him a lecture on how he had to stay on the far end of the bed as tall as he was he crawled over to you and laid his head on your chest.
you laughed softly trying to push the man off of you but he refused taking you sitting up as the opportunity to wrap his hands around you. âmissed you.â his breath fanned across your skin. âyouâre not a dog rafe get off.â âdonât do that. iâd be anything for you.â âyou gotta move rafe the tv.â âjusâ stay there okay tell me what to do.â he was talking like youâd dissipate if you moved an inch but who gives up the chance to boss the âmanliest man everâ around.
the two of you laid on the bed rafe still holding you like he wasnât planning to let you move and âconstantineâ played on the tv. your hand cradled his cheek admiring the remnants of tears stuck to his skin and his puffy eyes. âyou get prettier when you cry.â all he could do was stare at you. your eyes, your nose. your lips.
he raised a hand to squeeze your face and kiss you softly. âneed to stop watching this dc bullshit.â you laughed and swatted his hand away. ânot sure you have speaking privileges if you like marvel.â squishing his own in return.

contains : reader lowkey cheating but itâs justified imo, toji being sukunas number 1 hater, sukuna being a bad husband but later trying to be better
this is part 1/?
life wasnt all bad considering you were married to the richest man youâd ever known. contrary to the elites words money does by happiness, just momentarily.
because as soon as your back from a shopping spree done rightâ weâre talking laces and silks that are guilt pleasures to the average personâ that happiness disintegrates the moment you step inside somewhere youâre meant to call home and are reminded of the absolute bleakness in every aspect of it.
now your sat in the same dressing room you have been which is starting to make you insane as the stark white light glares down on you. normally itâs the other way around where a husband watches in such great astonishment whilst his wife tries on a plethora of fabrics and hues, not a wife being told to rate 4 different blacks that look the exact same even to a trained eye.
âboring, boring and boring.â you sighed heavily, admiring yourself in the mirror that the brutes unnecessarily large frame dominates. sukuna adjusts his cufflinks for the hundredth time, stares as fondly as someone like him could at his reflection and motions the cashier over.
itâs almost taunts you. the blasĂŠ way he taps his card like the number of zeroâs are irrelevant makes you sick. something you once relished inâbecause who wouldnât. anything and everything that you wanted just waiting for your orders. it was great until it was all you had.
soon enough the spontaneous dinners and gifts that kept the marriage in its never ending honeymoon phase faded into black. replaced with wordless passings in hallways, strange men filtering in and out of the place you were supposed to call home and the tacky stench alcohol that refused to leave your side.
someone who gave you a promise land that he swore to share with you now practically lives in his office. first you thought sukuna clearly didnât want to be around you, then it was questioning the sanctity of the seemingly pointless marriage and it finally dawned on you that itâs not you he fell out of love with itâs his business that he just loves more.
he ignores your comment picking up his now blaring phone and walks away mumbling something about work as always and disappears. you wait around for a while, browsing your own options as the store clerk saunters over. smiling over the dresses colour and how it would match with yours but before you can even give her a polite smile sukuna is rushing in with a stern âcar. now.â like you were a child. like you had no agency of your own.
the drive is anything but the calm attitude that he tries to portray. his jaw ticks. eyes locked on outside the window like he reminiscing in something that stays forever unchanged. not to mention the wheel almost combusting at the amount of pressure on it.
âyou should speak your mind before you crash this car.â you snide and he lets out an annoyed sigh. âthe more you speak the more iâm inclined to.â the remark isnât foreign to him, almost like he mightâve considered it.
and they say romance is dead.
itâs weird how your lives have come to this, from the most lovey dovey couple that people came to admire and look to for imaginary relationship goals to two people who could only be in each others line of sight for so long before the tension was practically waving a bright green sign for all to see.
the gps chimes and a âREROUTINGâ alert pops up the screen, prompting you to look outside to the now unrecognisable route and then to sukunaâs lack of expression.
âyou havenât forgotten the way to your own house have you?â. taunting the person most cable of cutting your life short wasnât the smartest of things you could have done but heâs become so used to it that he only grunts in response before the car turns left and begins to slow on to a gravel path.
was this finally it? was he bringing you to a secret location where heâd murder you or worse, keep you estranged from anything and everything. he pulls into a discreet house nothing to broadcast really but not a shack just, quaint.
a man is already outside letting a cigarette fall to the ground as smoke clouds around him emphasising the ghastly visual. he smirks and its sharpâ goading like he wants to fight. when he reaches the car heâs already leaning on it like itâs his own, sukuna pays it no mind because thatâs most likely just him but it irks you in the strangest way.
sukuna steps out to talk out of earshot moving further into the unfamiliar territory, the man is barely focused on the conversation staring right past your husband and at you. maybe eye contact wasnât a strength of yours or maybe his was lethal either way you quickly found something on your phone to keep some sort of barrier between the two of you.
the distant voices come to a stop and the sound of gravel shifting towards you starts. âtoji,â sukuna introduces whilst the other stays silent, âprotection until i get some things sorted.â you scoff followed by an onslaught of words that no marigge with an inkling of normality would ever meet. he whispers a faint âyou done?â and youâre already storming away and into your new home.
the place is quiet, has an absence of humanity it it even could; bleak walls that just scream iâm gonna murder you.
you look around almost tripping over a black bag thatâs obviously out of place, but the sound of the door whining open is enough for you to draw your hand back from exploring. âfound something interesting?â toji asks lingering at the door, eyes tracking your slowing movements.
âyouâre staying here?â you ponder turning to meet a smile that is the slightest bit disingenuous.
âno weâre staying here.â
.
it was like you could literally feel the evil swirling around you but it was just toji. draped in all black to look somewhat smart but he managed to ruin that image with his mouth. a series of obscene words that created vivid images which for some reason he couldnât keep to himself. and pet names that no married woman would appreciate.
itâd been a couple days of tiptoeing around the house to avoid anymore interaction than needed but toni revels in the art of making people uncomfortable.
luckily for him sukuna wasnât much of the possessive angry type he was before so it made his stalker level planning safer, just like today.
like normal you woke up, ready to swiftly move in and out of the kitchen as to not be noticed. you stood infront of the stove, oil already splattering onto surfaces, and dragging your hands down your face wiping the sleep away.
mornings in the place were surprisingly calming with the low hums of whatever roamed outside and the hum of the running pond.
toji heard you. he always does. maybe because he wakes up at abnormal times and holds himself stiff against the mattress so you wouldnât be woken up. even though heâs been trained in the ways of sneaking aaround like a literal ninja.
he lies there and listens to your relentless grumbles because fair enough your whole world went to shit, a child that barely know how to run his own business for a husband. but you got a new house with a hot body guard so pros and cons.
thereâs no real answer to why he does small things like that other than itâs intended to bring solace but to you or him?
