been thinking alot about TVL book vs. the show. need to find peace by remembering that the book still exists, this weird abridged QOD adaptation is it's own thing, with pieces i can appreciate on their own.

still, i'm missing the following in particular: lesmand cinderella scene, lesmand bath scene, real gabriELLE, lestat leaving nikki to the armand torture complex (and the parallel that sets up with louis), armand destroying nikki's apartment, nikki admitting that he hates lestat for being successful and ruining his lets kill ourselves plan, nikki and lestat in auvergne, gabrielle helping lestat run away to paris in the first place, armand wasting a bunch of his coven members once they leave him, armand enchanting/mind-gifting lestat, the whole bit where gabrielle and lestat explain why they can't bring armand with them, ELENI???? actually fr justice for eleni </3, lestat actively looking for marius---

and probably a thousand other things im forgeting tbh. Whatever. It is what it is as they say.

just finished my reread... more to say:

THE MARIONETTE SHOW NIKKI DIRECTS?? Marius' temple for TWMBK and honestly Marius' story too though I get why that's not in this season, did I mention gabrielle ? specifically her begging lestat to come away with her into africa and her general love for the wilderness she is so much more than what they did to her jfc but above all like...

the overwhelming sense that Lestat is good. He becomes a monster and still acts like a good man, he thinks Armand is a little demon and he still loves him and doesn't want to part in anger, he's drawn to the stage because he thinks its GOOD to help people forget themselves...

that last bit especially could have really given us some depth to modern day rockstar Lestat. whatever. read TVL it's actually even better than I remembered.

sure, let's have a black woman be basically a caricature, call her black father a nappy-headed slave, claim she never cared for him even though the past two seasons make it very clear that's not true, say she hates him more than her rapist and the people who murdered her, claim she intentionally and maliciously lied about being threatened with rape, say she prefers her white father (who horrifically abused her for 30 years btw) over him, and then have said fathers not show a single intense emotion over it afterwards. you know, since we can have characters just do ANYTHING now.
