Biography
They say that for over 500 years, Kingsley's had a smile on his face.
And why wouldn't he? He's immortal, he's hot, he can do whatever he wants. He has seen every corner of the world, he met and loved wonderful people, he lives in pure bliss.
Some rumors say Kingsley is the oldest vampire to ever live; some say he was an ancient ruler of a lost African kingdom. Some swear his human identity was Mansa Musa.
The reality is much more complicated and much more mundane than the tales would have you believe. Kingsley, born Zuba, was a mere soldier in the early days of the Rwandan empire. He didn't have many options those days — it's what his father did, it's what he did, it's what his children were expected to do.
He never lived long enough for that, though. Children. He held off on marriage for as long as he could, holding on a little too tightly to his bachelor lifestyle.
Kingsley came to regret it after his death.
Death which came quickly, almost uneventful. A lonely vampire looking for companionship stumbled upon him at random during a sleepless night. He remembers drinking the mysterious man's blood, and then darkness.
For a man who loved the sun as much as he did, being imprisoned to the night was the first big tragedy. The second was violence. As a soldier, he had seen and caused his fair share of violence, but he had never killed; he refused to, loved people too much for that. But now his existence seemed intrinsically linked to it. He couldn't survive without taking the life force of others.
And for a while survival wasn't in his mind. For the first few months of his existence as a vampire, Kingsley refused to drink any blood, almost to the point of desiccation.
Kingsley was saved by an elder. An spiritual leader who came to him as he was about to die. He reminded him of Imana's eternal struggle with death, and that his immortality was a gift from their God. He also reminded him that the dead are not to remain with their families and it was their duty to be happy.
The vampire took his words to heart. He left the empire behind and made it his mission to find happiness.
After that, some parts of the legend are true.
Kingsley did travel, taking on his new name along the way. He did the best to come to terms with his new nature and even learned to smile again. And every day he smiled a little more, until he became the larger-than-life figure he is today.
That's not to say it's been easy by any means. Kingsley desperately misses being human and more often than not keeps humans as company and pretends to be one of them. He misses sunlight, and the taste of homemade food.
But he still holds true to his promise, looking for ways to find joy in his immortality, never stopping for too long to think about the monster that he really believes himself to be.
Connections
Humans - Kingsley badly misses being human and tends to prefer humans as friends and companions. He also uses his human friends to feed with consent without having to kill.
Vampires - Over the centuries, he made a name for himself as a particularly hedonistic vampire; someone they go to when they want a big vampire party. His age and past are stuff of legend for people who have heard of him.
Older, smarter vampires - They know Kingsley is not what the legends say he is and might hold that against him.
