Liam's facial expression remained neutral, even though Jude's words practically caused sirens to signal in his mind. Maybe it was because he'd never actually known the guy. Or maybe Liam just didn't quiet yet believe he was who he said. Either way, he had no intention of allowing Jude to be alone with Autumn. Not until he was comfortable with him being, well, Jude.
"Right." Liam said. "And were you told of me before, or something?" If he was, and the man could prove it, then it would be good evidence towards him actually being Jude. And while Liam had more questions he wanted to ask, there was someone else that took priority.
Autumn.
As they neared the business, Liam noticed the broken glass immediately. "Fuck." He cursed as he took off sprinting towards Bookends. "Fuck!" Liam's shoes crunched on the broken glass as he looked into the business. "Autumn?" He stepped over the window sill, not even caring to be careful -- his hands scraping against the broken shards still stuck in the window. "Autumn!"
"Yeah, I mean - Autumn mentioned you." He murmurs, as they walk, hands shoved into his hoodie pockets. "She said you guys met.. at the gym, I think? Everything.. happened so quickly though right at the end, that I never got a chance." Conclave, weird relationship stuff, and a feeling like he needed to get out and never come back meant that he hadn't really spent a lot of time trying to meet new people right there before the death.
He's glad for the second chance, even if Liam's suspicious or doesn't want anything to do with him. They come up to the bookstore before he can say anything else about the matter, and the broken glass stops him in his tracks. "Oh.. oh, shit." Liam's faster than he is, and he's already made it inside by the time he runs up on the store.
He's careful - no healing factor now - and uses the door instead of climbing through the window. There's chaos inside the bookstore and it makes him more nervous. "Autumn!" He calls out with the other, head on a swivel as he looks for a sign of her. The door upstairs opens, and he looks up immediately. The woman with short, dark hair peers down at them, and Jude thinks this might be the first time they've met.. ever.
'She's okay, she's okay.' Aria tries to reassure both of them - Liam and the unfamiliar one. 'You can come in and see, but she's healing.'
Her voice sounds way too calm for the moment, but there's an exhaustion in it. Jude feels like.. maybe now this isn't his place, that he doesn't belong here. Hands in his hoodie pockets again, he tries to shrink down into himself. There's a factor here he hadn't considered: he's the only human.
He starts to say something about hanging back or heading off, but thinks better of it, and instead trails behind Liam with his gaze down at his feet. "Hey, man, uh - I'm sorry." Up the stairs, Aria lets them in, and Jude loses all train of thought when they see Autumn resting on the couch. "Oh, fuck. Wow."
