Will x Sister!reader - fighting chance
You knew Rhodes and Will were up to something, they way they were sneaking about between themselves, whispering and looking over your file constantly.
You wanted to ask one of them about it, but you just didnβt have the effort.
You were exhausted and everything was slowly becoming harder to do.
Laying on your back, you were trying to sleep but the aches all over your body was making it impossible.
Hearing a light knock on the door, you opened your eyes and looked over.
βItβs been a few days, do you want to get out?β Rhodes asked.
You shook your head and slowly turned to lay on your side, turning yourself away from him.
Rhodes sighed and walked over, crouching down in front of your bed.
βYou havenβt left the bed in a few days, itβll be good for you.β
βIβm.. Iβm tiredβ¦β
He sighed and nodded head head, grabbing the spare blanket from the chair, he covered you up with it.
Rhodes headed to the door before stopping, he turned to face you before he left the room. Closing the door behind you.
βHow is she?β Will asked.
βNot good, she doesnβt want to get out of bed. Sheβs looking even worse.β
Will nodded his head and made his way over to your room, quietly making his way in and over to the chair.
He sat down and looked at you.
You were so pale, so exhausted.
Running a hand down his face, Will buried his head in his arms as he bounced his leg up and down nervously.
Lifting his head up, he looked at the machines you were hooked up to.
Looking up at the door he watched as Charles came in.
Charles looked at you before turning back to your brother.
βIβve been asked to come talk to you, do you have a minute?β
Will looked at your sleeping form before nodding his head.
He left the room and took a walk with the psychiatrist, leaving you to rest peacefully.
You were woken up to someone shaking you lightly, and when you finally had woken up enough to register who was stood in front of you.
βDr manningβ¦?β You yawned out.
βI know itβs not my place to say, and Iβm sorry if Iβm pushing my boundaries but please reconsider the transplant.β She said softly.
You sighed, bringing your hand up, you ran it through your hair before shuffling up a little so you could face her properly.
βBecause your brotherβ¦ heβs tearing himself apart in order to try and help you, Rhodes it too. We all are even if you donβt see most of us. Butβ¦ Will.. heβsβ¦ heβs scared.β She sighed.
βI knowβ¦ butβ¦ I want to be at peaceβ¦ I canβt keep fighting anymoreβ¦β
βI know, but can you hold on a little longer?β
You chuckled softly, shaking your head at her as you shuffled over, patting the small space on your bed.
βDo youβ¦ know about my illness?β
βI donβt know much about it, Will never specified anything about it only Goodwin, Rhodes and he knew about it.β
βItβsβ¦ rareβ¦ no treatment. My only option is transplantβ¦β
βHow long have you been waiting?β
βSo you havenβt always had it?β
βIt developed when she was five.β
Both of you looked to the door, and you watched as your brother came over, sitting next to you.
Rhodes, April and Charles followed behind him and all stood around to listen.
βWe were swimming, and (Y/N) was playing by the lake with Jay when she suddenly collapsed. We donβt know what caused it, so we took her to the hospital and they found the cells in her lungs slowly destroying themselves.β
You looked at Will, he was starting to cry a little and you reached your hand out.
He took it and gave you a small smile.
βWe were told they didnβt know how long she would have left, but eventually her lungs would eventually just give out. Because of this they couldnβt give her the transplant until it did.β
βWhat were you doing when it gave out?β April asked.
βIβ¦ was walking across the streetβ¦β
βThis is why you need that transplant, please. We can get you in today or tomorrow.β Will said.
You shook your head, taking your hand from his you placed it on his shoulder, giving it a small pat.
βAnd theβ¦ chances of it working?β
Everyone stayed silent and you hummed, nodding your head.
Will stood up and started pacing.
βI wonβt just sit here and watch you die! What about dad?! Jay?!β He yelled.
βDr Halstead.β Charles warned.
βNo! No! Iβm not going to sit here and watch my sister die! Sheβs not in the right state of mind!β
βIβm sorry, but sheβs fully in the right mind. If she doesnβt want the surgery thereβs nothing you can do.β
Will kicked his chair and stormed out of the room.
Manning ran after him while April took her place.
βWhy wonβt you have it?β
βI wantβ¦ to die with dignityβ¦ I donβt want to live.. on a machine if it fails..β
βWhat about a DNR?β Rhodes asked.
βWhat?β April snapped.
βA DNR, if you flatline we wonβt bring you back. No machines or anything of the sort.β
You frowned slightly and turned to the window.
You heard some whispering and everyone left aside from your doctor.
He sat on the end of your bed.
βWe donβt have to tell your brother about it.β
Turning to face him, you took a shaky breath.
βI promise (Y/N). Just consent to the surgery and thatβs all Iβll tell him.β
You nodded your head and he quickly got up, a huge smile on his face as he came over to the bed.
Pulling your blanket up, he tucked you in slightly and placed a hand on the side of your face.
βEverything will be fineβ¦β
You nodded and he left and you carried on staring out the window.
Eventuality you fell asleep but what woke you up was the intense pain in your chest.
You tried to cry out but it wasnβt working, you tried to reach for your panicked button but your hands werenβt working.
Will dropped his drink and cried out for help as he ran over to you.
Hands on the side of your face, he tried speaking to you but you couldnβt hear anything, you couldnβt breath and the last thing you remembered seeing was the tears falling down his face.
βConnor!β Will screamed.
Rhodes came running around the corner and you were quickly rushed away a few seconds later.
Will grabbed Rhodes by the sleeve and made him stop.
βPleaseβ¦ you need to save herβ¦β he begged.
βIβll do everything I can. Call your brother and dad.β
He nodded and let his fellow doctor run away after you.
Heading to the waiting room, he called Jay and his dad.
Pacing the floor, it was Jay that turned up first.
βWhere is she?β He rushed out.
βYou finally convinced her to get it?β
βShe just suddenly changed her mind.β
Jay frowned, he knew that wasnβt like you but he never said anything about it.
Soon enough your dad turned up as well.
βSheβs getting the transplant?β Your dad asked.
βI.. I think soβ¦β Will whispered.
Will shook his head and started to pace once more.
Everyone came to visit when they had the chance, and soon enough they were all standing around to show their support.
It had been hours, and no one had heard anything.
βSheβll be okay Halstead.β Goodwin said.
βItβs been way too longβ¦β Jay whispered.
βA transplant is a difficult situation, and it can take a long time.β Choi said explained.
βNo, heβs right. Itβs been way too long.β Will said.
He started making his way towards the door.
βYou canβt go in there Will! You know this!β
Manning ran over and held him back.
βI need to check up on her! Sheβs my sister!β He yelled.
βSheβs okay! Just wait!β Maggie called.
Will fell to the floor in tears once again.
He was so close to you, you supported him and helped him get through college and med school.
You did everything you could for him, and if he lost you now he lost everything.
Another hour slipped by and finally Rhodes came out.
Immediately your dad and brothers shot up.
βHow is she?β Your dad asked.
βThe surgery went well, but the next few days are extremely important. She canβt have visitors just yet but I can take you to her room.β
They nodded and everyone followed the doctor to your room, looking through the window where some nurses were tending to you.
You were still so pale, but some colour had finally returned to your skin making you look a lot healthier than you did that morning.
Will let his shoulders slump and he turned to Rhodes.
βThank youβ¦β he whispered
