“Stay with me,” she repeated quietly, moving her nose along his gently. “Just for today — that’s all we can do.” And even closer to him she came, her hands cupped his face before she pressed her lips against his gently. He was so solid under her touch, so strong and yet so vulnerable at the same time. That’s what she loved about him. That he was a person and not some symbol.
She was just lucky enough to have him for herself today.
“Stay with me,” she murmured again, her eyes closed as she continued to kiss him. “Stay with me, Steve.” Her kisses and touches were tender, and she memorized the curves of his face and jaw with her fingertips. “Please.”
When he’d signed up for the experiment, he hadn’t known he would be flung into the spotlight as a symbol to the entire nation. All he had wanted was to join the army, to fight the bad guys during the war, he’d never expected aliens and gods and the various creatures he had encountered throughout his years. It was exhausting to say the least, not just physically, but emotionally as well. And leaving her behind? Well, that did nothing to help him either.
“Just for today,” he whispered back, happily returning each and every kiss pressed to his lips. Steve couldn’t get enough of them, of her. “Just us,” he murmured into one of the kisses as his hand trailed down from her hair, along her back, finding purchase at her hip so he could guide her on top of him. It was easy with her and the feeling of her on top of him gave him the sense of giving up control, something he desperately needed every now and again. “I missed you,” he admits as he pulls back slightly, “it’s not the same without you with me.”
