The new of Montreal track ("when") has already prompted vigorous discussion amongst my circle. I am curious to hear your thoughts.
(me furiously describing my OC's to an uninterested first date)
Philip Glass figured out 3/4 time without the slash, the absolute madman:
No one should be without medical care due to a cruel and arbitrary fuel blockade. As such I have made a donation to this campaign to help Cuba purchase solar panels and generators for their vital healthcare infrastructure.
Despite poverty and embargo, Cuba had long managed to maintain a healthcare system that ensured treatment for all and for decades boasted a longer life expectancy than the US. They have sent doctors to train and treat around the world including in low income communities of the United States and remote areas in Mexico. When Ebola ravaged Africa they showed up, when the pandemic was raging they developed their own low cost vaccine.
The callous and cruel weaponization of fuel shipments by the Trump regime has targeted Cuba's ability to feed and care for itself, while claiming to be aiming at "regime change", though last time they did that in Latin America they kept the regime and took the oil and gold.
I have had the utter privilege of visiting Cuba several times and bore witness to a beautiful, dignified, and caring society among its people despite many hardships. Seeing the statues of Terry Fox and Martin Luther King in Havana was touching, knowing that a society so isolated still celebrates great people beyond its borders. My heart breaks for what the Cuban people are being put through.
If you have the ability please consider helping our brothers and sisters on this beautiful island.

HEY SO UH WTF ???
And of course something reminded me of this old chestnut (vid and commentary below).
This one was a product of some great luck
- I went to a random Monday showcase night because one band was called Sparklesaurus and had sparkly pics.
- the songwriting was beautiful and I offered on the spot to produce a demo, which tbh I didn't do too well on but they're awesome
- When I was working on the cover, which I wanted to 70smaxx, I stumbled on a tube PA (basically an amp head for voice/keys/bass) from 1967, built by Pete Traynor of Traynor/Yorkville. Just getting tossed. It weighed a ton and I carried it home in the most awkward, slow way possible because I didn't want to wait and risk losing it. The thing destroyed multiple fuses, I gave myself a mains shock fixing it, and it barely gave much gain off the preamp output but damn did it play nice with my voice.
-I was loving my FALL FASHIONS and had a great video editing program on my phone before it got enshittified.
I always loved this one even though it's kinda forgotten right now
Wrote it after a breakup in 2014(?) in one 20 minute outpour but over the years since it was so loop-able it morphed into something more layered in my solo sets.
Imagine you get yourself crucified in ancient Jerusalem to absolve humanity's sins, then after three days you are resurrected in a cave, open up your phone to tell your followers, and you see this shit:
Do we trust Mom or Chuck more?

I've really been enjoying your music! Im glad the DIY pop scene on Tumblr hasn't completely bit the dust. Please keep making stuff :)
Thank you! Been in a bit of a creative (well everything) rut but I am doing my best to clear that so I can finish up the songs I have in the works. It's awesome to see that even without doing the whole "content creator" grind there's people who connect with what I'm doing. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

Is Adobe Okay? Part 2 - with discourse
This isn't particularly a problematic use for AI but my God does this fill me with a weird sense of dread.
I think deep down the corporate power desperate to co-opt AI wants control more than they want money. They recognize that art contains multitudes and see that as the real problem. Generative AI can be used to create complex imagery if it's actually used as the tool they always claim it is. But every corporate use is distilled to its most basic, one dimensional state.
Like that Coca Cola ad - a bunch of uncanny clones of their older, acclaimed Christmas ads. No message, no plot, no artistry. They might say it's a nostalgia trip but it's more like a giant applause sign. Coca Cola made a good ad in the 90s and now you are expected to celebrate being reminded.
The world is burning, the masses are turning on the system, and corporate power still thinks it's all a messaging problem. In their hubris they attack the artists they once exploited - if only we could get our message out without these middlemen, then things would go back to how they were when people could afford our products. Damn artists.
They double down on every trait that has made ads alienating, because to do otherwise would be to admit it's over. It no longer even feels like ads are being made for a human audience. How could they feel any other way, when the entire economic reality that allowed consumerism to flourish has been destroyed? Ads need to pretend the world is different than it is.
So there's a defiant level of slop these days. I seriously suspect they do this stuff to demoralize us and make us feel powerless to resist. I mean is it conspiracy when that's the preferred managerial style of the modern American CEO?
They would put tapes in our chests Videodrome style if the wokes weren't so against it.
And so this ad makes PERFECT SENSE in a world where context and indeed humanity itself are too messy and unpredictable for our risk-averse overlords.
They don't even consider that a dog with confetti and a party hat in a barren room is actually kinda Lynchian and spooky. The floor was a mess (confetti), there were feet in the frame (partygoer). These things may "signify a party environment" or "document the occasion" if you are a bleeding heart artist or woke academic or human or whatever.
But to the modern corporation I suspect they are uncomfortable reminders that other people exist. The dog is the star.
The product is the star. Get out of the theatre, pesky audience. Get off the stage, actors. You are distracting from the purity of the ticket sale. The true economic engine of theatre in its purest form.
Is Adobe Okay? Part one.
Saw this great ad today and thought to myself: Wow!
Nothing says "creativity" like a mid tier AI render of a Giraffe with half a neck. Can't even imagine the creative prompt that went into that... "giraffe painting, mid" maybe? Perhaps it was "Watercolor giraffe, short neck, lower body implied to be in the ground"?
But hey, I am likely overthinking. Unless their user base consists almost entirely of artists and graphic designers I am sure it will do fine...

Just a little update on my old rat: Goose snuggled into my sweater and just for fun I sang a little Darkness on the Edge of Town (again) and heard his little teeth bruxing... π
(I took a vid but since he's hidden in a sweater and barely audible it's just a close-up of my shoulder while I sing softly. Not a great vid tbh)
I just found out about udm14
It's basically a search that runs google minus the forced AI nonsense and sponsored results and general trash features. Not what I usually post but this is so refreshing I wanted to share.
(Duckduckgo was my go to but way too many business hours around me are hard to find outside google.)
A quick way to get an AI-free search without any extra work.
