Jake has been living in two lives for a while ever since he met you, one that he's just a disabled soldier who sits on wheelchair all day and another that he runs along the forest savoring how alive feels like again with you infront of him.
You're now his karyu who teaches him your culture step by step and in the exchange Jake teaches you more about the Sky people's weapons, you and him are like a cycle where both of you got the benefits. You teach him how to draw a bow, Jake teaches you how to aim a gun.
Jake has learned many things from you, like literally, he learned that for Na'vi Pandora is not just a planet they're living in, it's also apart of Na'vi souls. Every creatures that were created by Eywa have a deeply strong bond to Pandora especially Na'vi that have grown cultures from Eywa. And that was something a former marine like him did not spare a care to think about before, it was intriguing about how beautiful Pandora is as you showed him.
Now here he is, sitting on his wheelchair after returning to his human form as she stares at the hologram screen that is showing many footages of Pandora that the scientist have captured for studying, Jake feels something he can't describe stirring in his chest while his gaze never leaves the screen that is on a loop, you has opened his eyes to see more of the Pandora that he has not noticed before.
Norm that was inspecting a sample from a plant they gathered, glancing at Jake that has been staring at the screen for almost ten minutes now with his brows furrowed in confusion, wondering what's up with Jake to stare at those footages as if it was a therapy.
Then the door slide opened as Grace steps into the lab with a cup of black coffee in her hand and brows furrowed in grumble, definitely something was going on or she just did not get enough sleep from studying new information about Mangkwan's cultures Jake has shared with her.
"What's with that face?" Norm asks with his jokily tone and a smug smirk on his face before Grace shot him a warning glare as her hand came up rubbing over her temple, Jake's head turns from the hologram screen putting himself into the conversation.
Grace sighs quietly as if there's something bothering her before she still remains silent for a few seconds then glances up at the two men. "Just having headache about the Colonel, they reported that a camp got attacked, no soldiers alive. And the weapons, supplies. All gone" she explains to both about the reason why she stepped into the lab with that harden face of hers, informing about the camp that got attacked in which it sounds a little... familiar to him.
βAnd Colonel wonβt stop talking about, see Dr. Ausgustin? the blue monkeys arenβt what you think they areβ Grace continues with her eyes rolled in annoyance as she mimicking the Colonelβs gesture and sarcasm about the Naβvi, the camp attacking only to fuel more of bias that the man always has for Naβvi and he also used that to remind Graceβs belief.
βHm, weird. Mostly Naβvi donβt attack a camp let alone stealing all the suppliesβ Norm speaks up as frown performs on his eyebrows listening to what has bothered Grace to made her upset adding his knowledge about the nature of Naβvi that seldom attack hunting camp or even steal the supplies and weapons, itβs extraordinary for Naβvi. βWhich camp got attacked?β then a question followed.
βA hunting camp near South, I have no idea which clan would attackβ Grace replied instantly with an exhausted sigh, leaning against the edge of table with her hand still rubbing over her temple, surely still annoyed by the Colonelβs harsh words.
Jakeβs eyes widen, taken aback by Graceβs respond about the camp that got attacked. It was the same camp you led him to search for a magazine and you along with your warriors took down a whole squad just a few second and he saw one of the soldiersβ uniform, they were uniform for hunting team that tasked to be at South area of the forest and Jake recognized it well because he has seen them often. He just did not expect that the report will reach the Colonelβs ears that fast.
βWellβ¦ I did not expect her to take down the whole teamβ Jake murmurs quietly as he gazes away without knowing that he just spoke his thoughts loud enough for the two of others can hear him.
βThat was you!?β Grace and Norm snapped to Jake instantly with their voices harmonized together as soon as Jake just spoke his thoughts instead of keeping it in his head and now it returns to kill him.
"Who...?" Jake snapped back into his right mind with a slow turn of his head to the disbelief gasp from both scientists that are glaring at him demanding answer as he looks at them with wide eyes and awkwardness on his expression, confused why Norm and Grace gave him that looks.
"What do you mean you did not expect her to take down a whole team?" Grace repeats his words taking a step closer to him with her arms crossed against her chest, looking down at Jake with a furrow demanding explanation.
Jake's eyes widen again as realization hits him like a wave, he just accidentally mentioned you to Grace and Norm about the camp attacking where he supposed to not do so, but he just did.
"Don't even think about lying, this is serious" Grace added with her tone drops lower and more serious making the atmosphere even tensed up after noticing the shift on Jake's expression and she knows he was thinking about lying. So she stares at him, her gaze holds Jake's and awaits for him to reply.
Jake's shoulders shudder slightly feeling the weight of Grace's gaze on him demanding the truth, and dear gods that glare is scary enough for Jake not wanting to lie on her face.
So Jake chose not to tell lies and explain every detail on the day you brought him to the hunting camp for him to find a magazineβjust one magazine but somehow it leads to a whole team got taken down by you and your warriors, then followed by the fact that you stole all the supplies and weapons to get it back to your clan. As like a missing puzzle has been solved, now they know who attacked the camp.
"Oh god... Jake, you're a total idiot" But still, Jake is not escaping Grace's curse as she threw him a harsh curse instantly that sounds normal to Jake now. She sighs again, eyes squeeze shut as she rubs the inner corner of her eyes.
"Do you know how serious this is? if Colonel found out that you were involved with them, you'd be dead" Grace broke the silence with a warning of concern to Jake about how risk this is if the Colonel not just knows which clan attacked his soldiers but also knows that Jake was a collaborator, he'd be doomed.
"Then what am I supposed to do? I promised her to teach her how our weapons work, I don't have powers there. Grace" Jake retorts instantly with his brows furrowed tightly as his eyes narrowed, Grace spoke like he had a choice at that situationβNo, he does not even have any powers to do what he want because it was you who's the boss there.
Grace was taken aback, lips parted like she was thinking about some words or any words to retort Jake back but she couldn't, she falls silent and gazes away knowing well deep in her heart that Jake was right, he was surrounded by many Na'vi that could kill him in a second and even under you, a tsakarem, the second powerful after tsahik.
Jake also did not speak anything back as he lets silence filled up the lab into tense atmosphere, Norm glances between them both awaits for any of them to break this awkward silence after the slight argument but no, neither of them chose to speak up.
And how that moment ended up Jake cannot remember at all.
You were running on the branches of giant trees under the forest before you jump up high left arm catching a smaller branch and swing your form to land onto another branch and continue running, you are fast, like wind through the leaves.
Jake hurried up behind you with slight pant under his breath, his gaze never leaves you to not lost track as he's almost five steps behind you. Even after many lessons he could not quite catch your fast paces.
Then a time, Jake's arm swats a leaf out of his sight before he reaches a dead end where there is no other branches for him or you to run along, but where are you? Jake questions that in his mind as he slowly takes a step with his head whipping around to search for any track of you.
Then he calls for your name but only silence he received, his heart races faster thinking that something bad might happen to you or even worst, his expression drops in concern feeling a knot in his chest with your absence.
But you did not go any where far, just leaning bare on your stomach against the branch above his head, observing him in silence while he was calling your name by the top of his lungs.
Waiting for the right opportunity in the same time Jake stopped calling for you, you instantly dropped from the branch you were hiding landing perfectly and quiet right behind Jake as you right hand found his kuru grabbing on it tightly, left one closing the distance between a dagger in your hand and his throat, making Jake's muscles tensed up as you caught him on guard.
"You're still too slow" You whisper against Jake's ear with your tone sent shiver runs through his spine, both of his hands came up each side of his head in silent gesture that he's at your mercy.
Both of Jake's hands came up aside each of his head in a silent sign that he's all at your mercy with his muscles tensed up blood running cold as same as the dagger ghosts his skin, the side of his eye glances back at you through his shoulder. Seeing Jake's reaction like that makes your lips curled into a small smirk slightly in satisfy that you always caught him off guard.
But little that you know that was Jake's plan, to trick you into thinking he's all at your mercy but he's actually isn't, once he feels your grip loosen on the dagger his right hand instantly found your wrist in a quick move. Sending a firm grip on your flesh making you hiss in startled losing your grip on your dagger dropping on the branch as Jake spun you around, left hand catches your left one gather both hands behind you as he trapped you with his only calloused hand.
Jake closes the distance between you and him as his chest pressed against your back, you attempt to squirm but your strength was no match to his.
"Am I?" Jake leans in close whispering the words responding your comment about him being slow against your flicked ear with a small smirk performs on his face as he returned you the same gesture of trapping with his hand still hold yours firmly and it does not seem like you could break free at all.
Your eyes narrowed in startle after Jake has caught you off guard, with a quick move he could strike back to you like a warrior making you almost taken aback by how fast he's learned what you've taught in which surely amazed you.
Instead of defiant hiss, your lips curled into a grin of amusement with the side of your eye glancing back at him through your shoulder. "Smart move" you praise, even it sounds like a sarcasm after all, but Jake took that as a compliment with the stupid face of his lighten from your semi-sarcasm praise words of yours.
Jake releases you a second later, crouching down to take your dagger you dropped earlier and handing it to you, you took the dagger without any followed words before you kept it hanging on your hips.
"But I spoke the truth when I say you're still too slow" Then you broke the silence and brought back again the comment you've made about him at the very first place with your arms came up crossed against your chest, gaze traces along his features.
Jake's ears flatten with his tail whipped, his expression harden as his brows furrowed listening to you bringing back the comment that ruined all the mood he had seconds ago. "C'mon now, I've been learning hard, me being slow today does not mean I won't get faster" Jake says with his tone slightly whine, slightly annoyed how strict you are on lessons.
"Lighten up, would ya? you don't have to always keep being strict all the time. You're teaching a Sky man, not a real Na'vi" Jake adds instantly before you got a chance to retort, stepping closer to you that look at him like you're judging with the way your brow raised as he continues to speak, telling you to lighten up.
Lighten up? that word never been in your life ever since you become a tsakarem, the whole clan expecting on you as much as your mother, the one that teaches you how to be a decent tsahik to lead the clan. And with that much responsibility on your back, you can't help but feel like some part of your life being stolen, you have to watch over the younglings and seek for more power for a clan that always seek strength.
You're tired, for trying to prove yourself.
But Jake, somehow, ever since he has entered your life, he seems to fill up the stolen parts of your tsakarem life.
Or maybe, lighten up would not hurt.
"Fine, I'll lighten up. You may have a day to take rest from lessons" You finally break the silence while you were considering his words before you agreed with him to lighten up the hard lessons you been teaching him as your head nodded in agreement, even in deep down you're fear for your mother's complaining words about neglecting your tsakarem duty to teach.
Jake's expression lighten again with his lips curled into a smile then a small grin after you have given him a rest he actually deserves after those hard lessons you been throwing at him.
"But do not get carried away, I let you rest this time out of pity, not sympathy" Then you add with your expression returns into stoic as your hand came up into a gesture to warn him that you're still won't go any easy on him even you just allowed him to take a break from lessons, to keep him right in his place.
Jake's lips curler into a wider smile after listening to your added warning with that stoic expression of yours, you're trying to intimidate him with that trick again didn't you? and that did not work at all, only to made Jake even more feel amazed by you which is why he chuckles quietly under his breath.
"Sure, sure. I won't" Jake replied with his head nodded playfully to acknowledge your warning that made he chuckled, the way you trying to act tough towards him even he already feels like you started to became soften to him already. It was cute for him actually, he had to admit.
Returning to the Hometree of your clan as you vanished due duty called, Jake has been staring at the enormous volcano located not so far from your clan, it still looks peaceful, yes, but Jake can't help but to imagine what will happen if the volcano erupted. A marine like him understands the risk well, it won't be not so hard for the fire to reach your clan easily calculating by the landscape, It'd be dangerous and cause many dead if your clan persistent to remain here.
Although Jake is still an outsider, he has not so much right to speak in your clan at all. Atleast not to the Olo'eyktan or tsahik.
But he sure can speak with the tsakarem.
After a moment he snapped out of his mind as soon as he feels something tugging his tail from behind, his face turns back to look what it was only to found out that it was your sister, Varang, hands full of sticks that are still not craved and a few leaves in basket, likely to craft for more arrows.
"Oh, hello" Jake greets the girl with his casual tone with his surprised expression that Varang is more a brave one to approach him lately, maybe it's because he's been around her older sister for a long time and might as well started to trust him more than ever.
"Can you help?" Varang asks casually, head nodded towards the sticks in her hands in silent gesture that she requests for a hand of his help to craft more arrows.
"Sure thing" Jake agreed to help the girl instantly as he started to crouch down with Varang, sitting across of her with his gaze scanning on what she's brought along.
Varang does not reply anything back to Jake's agreement, just placing all the materials onto the ground with her hand found a stick as other one holding a dagger and started to carve the tip of it carefully. Jake's eyes lingered on the girl a few seconds before he also started with the work.
Silence grows more tense between them both, the only sound Jake can hear is the sound of dagger carving into the wood, and a sound of other clan members in the background that look so unusual eager, some holding amount of arrows , some decorating Hometree to be more colorful. Even how an idiot Jake is, he knows that there must be something going on for the Mangkwan to be this eager.
"Hey so, what's happening? I see how eager everybody is" Jake manages to break the awkward silence between him and Varang, asking and mentioned about the fresh atmosphere Mangkwan is today in which it was... extraordinary.
Varang slowly glances up to meet Jake's gaze with her unreadable expression, she stares at him in a second of silence before returning her gaze onto the stick she was working on. "The Hunting Festival is drawing close, we have to prepare" then she replies simply, casual and almost nonchalant.
The Hunting Festival, those words lingered on Jake's mind. You have mentioned about this festival before in one of your lessons about crucial events in your clan and The Hunting Festival was one of it, once Varang replied him that the eager that is going on is for the upcoming event, Jake's ear flicks in piqued wonder and interested.
So then Jake nods in acknowledgement, continues to carve a stick in his hand before the silence filled up the atmosphere again, Jake's mind has been thinking about several topics he can talk with Varang to not let this awkward silence being the only thing they feel with each other even Varang seems to not bothers.
At the end, Jake's mind came up with somethingβyou, your absence has him wonder because ever since you returned to Hometree with him from the morning lesson earlier you just vanished, telling him nothing but you had to go due duty called and justβgone, let him roam the Hometree freely.
But somehow, Jake feels like your absence did more than gave him wonder.
"And... where's your sister?" Jake asks another question, lips curled up by unexpected awkwardness feeling like he just asked the dumbest question ever and he should not do that in the first place, but he just did.
Varang does not reply instantly, just let the words sink in for a few seconds before she decided to answer "She's watching over the clan for the preparation" she replies to Jake's dumb question about your absence, still having her gaze on the stick not seemed to be any bothered.
Jake is taken aback by simple and nonchalant it was for Varang to inform about your absence as he nods to acknowledge with an awkward smile creeping on his face. "Yeah... right" Of course you'd be watching over the preparation for The Hunting Festival, you're the tsakarem after all, it's your duty to look after the clan, why can't he think of that.
Varang silents again, continues doing her work on carving stick to stick for more arrows used for the festival letting the awkward silence lingers, and almost a minute her head slowly tilted up, looking at Jake.
"Did you take a like on my sister?" Varang asks nonchalantly with her casual tone and expression seems to not bothered about the sensitive question she just asked.
Jake freezes instantly as both of his hands stopped on carving a stick listening to Varang's nonchalant tone but an impact question, did he take a like on you? why'd Varang ask him that with such question out of sudden. Did she... know something?
"If you do, you have to meet many competitions" Varang adds without waiting for Jake's respond with her gaze and hands still working on the stick, brought up about the fact that you're surely a tsakarem but did not yet promised to any man in the clan, they're not worthy for your interdependent-self.
And because of none is worthy, they so attempt to prove theirselves that they are suitable to be on your side as Olo'eyktan, they are drown to you not because of beauty but out of pride they seek. They only wanted to bring pride to their family not because they see you, actually see you.
"You have no Ikran, let alone passing Inikmaya. You have no rights to take a like on her, you're at the lowest of the mountain" Varang adds in final with her cold tone, as if she's judging him about being a weak hunter in the clan and plus being a dreamwalker makes it even worse. Varang is right, he has rights to take a like on you, a tsakarem that on the top on the mountain while he's here at the lowest.
Even Jake is so sure about taking you nothing but his mentorβhis fierce one, but the thought of him being not worthy enough for you just... stings hard through his heart?
Varang glances up to observes Jake while he was in his thought, she could see that he already zoned out with the words she spoke earlier about you, the way his hand stopped working and the way his gaze empty. That was enough for Varang to ensure that Jake already went out with his mind.
Letting out a quiet small sigh, Varang stood up on her feet as soon as she finished carving the last stick gathering them into her arms. The shift from Varang was enough to make Jake snapped out from hid mind, glancing up at the girl.
"Thank you" Varang says it simply, no emotions nor jest mixed in, unlike youβVarang is much colder than that. She has observed Jake enough about you, she'd just take her time to vanish as she turns on her heels, walking off with the freshly carved arrows in her arms.
Jake watches Varang go until her form disappeared into the crowd, gaze lingered on the other clan members for a few secondsβthose words from Varang still clung into his mind like a nerve, not worthy enough, those simple words supposed to do nothing for a marine like him but why... it bothers him this much?
Jake lets out a small growl out of irritation, not quite understand what's going on inside his headβIs it because he got used to your presence by his side and once you vanished, he got insane. Or maybe, the thought of other men have been trying to show you that they are worthy enough for you just annoyed him.
Shaking his head to brush the useless thoughts off, his gaze eventually lands on the stick he was working on, now crack into two pieces, when did he break the stick without knowing? was he that irritated to snap the stick in single try? Jake does not quite know...
Jake does not even know what you've done to him, but whatever it was. t has a massive fucking impact on him.
At the night approaches, the sky consumes by darkness as the forest comes alive. You're at the training yard drawing your bow with the arrows that are freshly craved sent by the hand-crafters, for the tsakarem to test on the quality if the arrows are in your standard, and if good enough to be used in The Hunt Festival.
But also, you're here for yourself. You have been using the metal machine you stole from the camp for a long time and let just say you got too... carried away about it, sometimes only just a small hunt you'd prefer to use the gun instead of your own bow because it's much more faster, waste less time and that shows the clan how powerful you are.
Not so long after you've discovered that using the metal machine does not only come with pros but also along with cons, the meat you hunted by a gun is much more low quality than by a bow, the bulletsβthat's what Jake taught you about, made the taste of a meal feels like poison on tongue.
So you've decided, you'll be using the gun when only needed and only given permissions to use that metal machines only for your best warriors, and with The Hunt Festival you did not allow to use guns for this sacred hunt. Other else you still root in Eywa's rules, metal is forbidden and is poisoning our hearts, even how much more strength your clan seeks no matter what it takes. You won't let the poison spreads into your entire clan.
The bow is what reminds you of who you are.
During your thoughts, you heard footsteps approaching behind you. If it was usual you'd snap toward the sound and aim to whatever is approaching you, but you recognize that sound without turning around to see what it is or who is is. There's only Na'vi who walks that loud enough for a yerik to instantly runs awayβJake.
Your muscles soften, lowered your drown bow as you glance back at Jake through your shoulder with both of his strong arms cradle another set of newly craved arrows with his stupid face again. You did not speak, await for Jake to start the conversation first.
"Varang told me to bring these to you" Jake starts, breaking the awkward silence between you both with his lips curled into a small smile as he presents you those arrows cradled him like a child and the scene makes the corner of your lips tugged into an unexpected subtle smile because how stupid he looks.
"I see how you started to settle down" You reply with your casual tone, head nodded to acknowledge his present about the arrows as your hand reaches for one, grabbing it firmly in your palm before waving it around, testing on its weight.
Jake nods to acknowledge your comment about himβa dreamwalker finally settling down with your clan after a while of staying under this Hometree with your care, he has seen many things by having you opening his eyes to see what his planet could not have, the environment, the airβthe beauty, the one that his planet has long lost.
Jake thought he'd be rotten in that planet of his until he met you, a person who brought him to come back feeling alive again.
Even though his first meet with you was a little... unsettling.
The silence replaced then, you only turns your face away to hold your focus ahead, drawing back your bow with the selected new arrow with your proper posture as a warrior, back straighten with muscles tensed. Without a second of hesitation you fire the arrow strike straight through the target, right at the center.
With the result you feel satisfy rushing into your veins instantly making your lips curled into a small grin, you still got the skills even lately you have been using a gun which also made Jake impressed by how you just drew an arrow for a split second then fire straight to the center of the target without hesitation.
It was not new for Jake to see you showing off your skills, but still, you always make him impressed.
"Inikmaya draws close, you should be as good as me in a few moons" You were the one to break the silence between you and him as you glances back at him with a small grin, bringing up about the another sacred event of young hunters.
Inikmaya, the rite of passage. The sacred event that young hunters have to get through to prove theirselves as a warrior of the clan by taming a beast named Ikranβif it's for humans way, it's just like going through puberty, atleast that's what Jake could think of.
And now, the rite of passage now is Jake's new goal. He's just become one of your people and the next thing he should do is to get through the Inikmaya, to finally be seen as warriorβnot an outsider nor dreamwalker.
"C'mon now, you know I'm a fast learner" Jake replies with a small playful jest as his lips curled into his signature stupid smileβhe looks stupid, really stupid. But somehow that stupid face of his made your lips also curled into an unexpected smile.
"Fast learner? more like a failure learner" You retort him instantly with a sarcasm from that sharp-tongue of yours, but even how harsh your words were you couldn't hide the fact that you were smiling to his playful demeanor.
"Alright, alright. I'm the failure" Jake nods his head to agree with your harsh sarcasm that he knows well you were just messing aroundβactually, he had learned that you were always able to make some jokes, just harsh and sarcastic ones.
You did not respond, just roll your eyes playfully over his agreement that he was a failure but cannot help but found it adorable for him to just... takes whatever you say to him in whichβyou liked it, you like obedient people anyway.
Then in the middle of silence your gaze slowly traces over his form that is now wearing your people's clothes, beads and the dagger hung across his chest, you gave him that dagger as his karyu to be a sign of his another step closer to Inikmaya.
You took the way his body grew more muscles due to lot of lessons than the thin dreamwalker you found in the forest, now your mind split in two pieces. One is to admire how ambitious he is to survive this far in your lessons, most students don't, and second... you are a little satisfied that you took a well care of him, to make a dreamwalker into a fine young hunter.
A smirk performs on your face with your gaze still lingered on him before it flicks back to hold his gaze. "You look better" you say, almost a compliment but it mostly sounds like a tease as your smirk widen.
Jake's brow raised up in surprise mixed by taken aback, you? the cold intimidating tsakarem of Mangkwan clan just complimented him that he looked good? Jesusβhe probably can sleep with his eyes closed now, even it was just a simple praise, Jake couldn't help but feel his heart skipped a beat hearing you say that to his face.
"Well... maybe because I have a skilled karyu?" After a second of silence Jake manages to reply you as he hit you with a small tease or slightly flirtation, his lips curled into that stupid smile that never fails to make your lips curves into a smile also.
"Don't get too carried away now" You reply him with your hand came up waving into a sigh of disapproval over his tease that you caught the slight flirtation in it, but somehow you did not mind him, not like other men.
Jake only respond by his soft chuckle out of amusement toward your disapproval, but deep down he knows how high your guard wasβlike Varang said, because of many men came up to you not because they're drown to you but because you can give then pride to their name, and in the end you'll be nothing than a tsahik stuck in loveless arrangement.
Even how hard you were seen, you still wanted to be loved after all.
"The night grows cold, you should head back and rest" You speak again, breaking the silence and snaps Jake back to his right mind. suggesting him about returning to the warmth of Hometree, laying in the hammock letting it cocoons his form. Lullaby him into sleep.
"I suppose I should" Jake did not protest nor disagree with you, in fact, he has been shivering ever since he stepped out from Hometree just to delivery the freshly craved arrows for you, he just acted tough infront of you so he did not embarrassed himself.
You only nod to acknowledge Jake as you watched him taking the arrows inside a quiver, you only stare at him silently, taking the way he moves and the way his calloused hand handling the arrows.
As he straighten, your gaze meet his instantly with casual or mostly unreadable one while scanning his expression that you know instantly that he was questioning out of wonderβif you'll join him in a walk back to Hometree.
"I will take some time here a little longer" So you reply him nonchalantly as your hand found an arrow in quiver, drawing your bow back and fire the shot, straight into the target.
Jake does not question any much more, not doubting you about your choice to stay outside in this cold night at training yard testing the new arrows, so he just nods to acknowledge your words with respect before turning on his heels, heading off to training yard.
But only a few steps Jake took away from you, he found himself feel a surge to say something before he completely leave the yardβsome simple words that would make your night a precious one.
"Goodnight, tsakarem" Jake says as he glances back to look at you through his shoulder, goodnight, a simple word for humans like him to speak it with his loved ones.
But that simple word makes you pause your action instantly and completely, your eyes wide with your head snapped toward him that is already turning his face ahead and continue to walk off the yard as his form disappeared into the night, leaving you alone in the area confused and... amazed?
Goodnight, you have never heard such word before in your entire life not even Varang who is younger would know. The word sounds foreign for you tongue, nor the men who came up to you ever say this... weird word to you.
But somehow, you feel a surge of warmth floods into your chest making the cold night less cruel, your arms dropped to your sides from the drawing position, gaze stares at the ground with your brows furrowed with that foreign word lingering in your mind like a spirit haunting your mind. You're confused and... something else you cannot describe, or don't want to.
How come you feel so sensitive on such simple word as Goodnight.

"So you're saying... there was a crazy woman kidnapping you and forced you to show her how gun works?" A question of wonder mixed with taken aback rang up in the lab of scientists, Norm Spellman known for his knowledge of many, asking Jake that is sitting on his wheelchair after disconnecting his link to his avatar in the day.
In fact, Jake has told everything he experienced in the night he met you, got knocked out by the back of his neck and forced to live there by the promise he never made with you, to make your clan stronger.
"Yeah... she's like, argued with an old woman who dressed like she's a hippie or sum..." Jake replied quietly with his hand rubbing his temple sighing, he still couldn't believe what he just experienced in that night. When he finally gets to sleep in one of your prepared huts he found himself.... confused and lost once he returned to his human form.
He remembers how chaos it was for everybody to quickly surrounding him once he's half unconscious returning to his human form after getting lost from his team as an avatar, Grace cursed him about his stupidity of course, and he had no choice but to silent.
"You met their tsahik too?" Grace, who just entered the lab and overheard their conversation she asked instantly with her tone sure mixed with slight excitement, strode straight towards the two men as Norm was sitting on the hologram table and Jake was in his wheelchair.
"Well... if you mean an old hippie woman then yes, I met their tsahik" Jake replied with his shoulder shrugged, almost not really spare any care on what the leader of spirit for Na'vi is called, he just described what he saw. And all he saw was an old woman dressed in hippie clothes.
Grace just stares at him with her eyes narrowed in silent disapproval of his dismiss as her long legs strode over the two men that are her co-worker, but she wish it was only Norm.
"And? what did you see?" Grace continues to ask him with her hand came up resting on her hip, other one placed bare on the hologram table with her gaze locked with Jake below. Asking an valid question since that was not normal for Na'vi to let an outsider let alone a dreamwalker like him reaches their tsahik, usually he'd be killed before he could he even move.
Jake falls silent, lips curled up slightly as he considering Grace's question, what did he see when he was in your clan? simple, he only saw you and that's the only thing he could quite well remember, only a night of his first met with you but sure your face has been in his mind, rent free.
"I saw uh... people, forest?" Jake replied with his hand came up scratching the back of his beck in slight awkward, he tried so hard not to mention you as he brought up other else he saw in the night instead in which... he couldn't quite remember it well.
"He saw a beautiful sexy Na'vi who kidnapped him and forced him to teach how gun works" Norm interrupts with his tone full of sarcasm as his eyes rolled just only looking at how pathetic Jake is trying to tell Grace what he saw last night and Norm has to say, Jake was suck at it.
Jake's head snapped towards Norm with his eyes narrowed in startled who just exposed him after he had told the other man to not telling Grace about youβthe sexy Na'vi he saw, Jake turns away and sigh quietly while Grace who just listened to the detail Norm spilled her brow arches instantly in wonder. And Jake knows that he's doomed again.
"Forced you to teach how gun works? that was weird, most clans do not put interest on metal machines" But Grace did not focus on Jake's opinion about you at all, instead her attention was poured to how you, have an interest on guns that most Na'vi avoid because that was not the way of Eywa.
"What clan did you meet, Jake?" Grace continues with another question with her expression shifts into seriousness, there were many uncounted clans on Pandora and each have their own ways but this, it was extraordinary for a clan to have such interest on Sky people's killing machine.
Jake stares at Grace as his mind proceeds, he remembers that he heard you call those two warriors who have spears on his neck by a specific name with thick accent that he could not quite catch up, but if he was correct, your clan was...
"Mangkwan" Jake replied Grace with his casual tone as same as his expression, he does not know if he was right or pronounced it correctly, that's what he has learned from you last night only just a few minutes.
Grace's eyes widen with her brows raised up in surprise slightly, Norm too, then they exchange glances which makes Jake's brows furrowed in confusion, did he pronounce your clan wrong?
βThat's impressive how the Mangkwan lets a dreamwalker like you stay" Grace replied after a second of awkward silence with her hand held up each side of her head in gesture of flabbergasted after hearing which clan Jake encountered with.
"Well... I guess, maybe kinder than the Omatikaya" Jake nods to acknowledge Grace's comment and does not forget to throw her a sarcasm jest that sure hit Grace like a knife as he brought up the almost sensitive topic to Grace.
"Oh, shut up now" Grace snarls as her hand instantly lands on Jake's back into a small smack making Jake chuckles softly after knowing he successfully teased Grace.
Then the clock hits, it's time for Jake to connect with his avatar form now and begin his other morning in the form of Na'vi, Jake excuses himself to Grace and Norm before propelling himself heading towards the linking machine with Grace following up behind to give him a handβactually, give him a lift up.
As Jake laid bare on the cold metal machine, Grace looks down at him with her expression harden in seriousness as if she has something in her mind. "Jake, if you learn anything from the Mangkwan. Please tell me immediately, this is a big discover" Grace says quietly with her tone almost dropped to plea, which she has never done before atleast not with Jake.
Jake shrugs nonchalantly with a smug smirk creeps into his face considering Grace's plea, he understands her, she was willing to learn more about Pandora than he does.
"Sure, I will" Jake promises with a slight subtle smile on his face, Grace returns him the same gesture as Norm calls after from the background. "Don't get yourself killed by that sexy Na'vi you talked about" and the comment makes Jake's eyes rolled with a smirk before the machine completely closed as he started to connect with his avatar that is sheltering under your clan's Hometree.
Jake wakes up from the unconsciousness with his mind slowly stirs, he slowly propped himself up seeing that he's blue already with the same RDA shirt still clung on his form, he yawns slightly stretching his sore limbs while accommodate his mind with the avatar before the side of his eye spotted a figure.
Head snapped towards it, he sees a similar- looking Na'vi girl crouching down with her big eyes glare at him as if she's trying to read him into his soul. If Jake was right, the girl is your sister, Varang, that chose to be quiet at the day tsahik has made a decision to let you keep him under the clan's wing.
"Hi...?" Jake greets the girl with his lips curled into an awkward smile, this is his first time ever to have a girl like Varang staring at him when he was awake, does not know how long the girl has been crouching there staring at him.
The girl did not respond, not even a stutter aa her wide yellow eyes still bore into Jake's eyes making him could not help but feel slightly awkward face to face with this quiet girl that has such a similar face like yours.
"Don't bother him, ma'tsmuke" Then in a split second of this awakward silence your voice pierced through the tension air like a needle pops a ballon, you strode forwards as you entered the kelku you gave Jake to be his shelter during the time here.
The girl quickly on stand on her feet as soon as she acknowledge your presence, one of her hand instantly found your wrist grabbing it firmly and stands beside you, still keeps her quiet composure as it makes you could not help but feel adore over your sister's shy demeanor and that was enough for a subtle smile to perform on your face.
"This is Varang" You broke the silence with your head turned to him, officially introducing your sister to Jake as you took a glance on Varang to observe her reaction once she was introduced. "She's a little shy" then you added with your tone becomes softer as you looked at Varang who shifts closer to hide behind your long leg once as you told Jake she was a shy girl, making your lips curled into a smile.
Jake glances at you that oblivious about the smile that is performing on your face, this is his first time ever to see an intimidated woman like you smile after your presence alone could send shiver runs down his spine and it's... a newfound for him.
"I can tell" Jake replied your introducing over Varang about her shy demeanor as he nods to acknowledge once he finally manages to tear his gaze off from your smile, even though it was not so accurate for Jake about Varang being shy.
You shot him a glare with your unreadable expression before you leaned down slightly talking in your native tongue to Varang while Jake only stares at you wondering what you were saying before the girl rushed away from the kelku then your gaze landed on him, expression turns into subtle harden making Jake's muscles tensed up.
"So? are you going to show me thunder now?" You ask casually with your tone mixed with slight demand for answer, your mother has let him stay under your care and that did not come for free, he has to teach you how the gun works one way or other, you did not give him a choice.
Jake's muscles grew even tighter hearing the word thunder came from your mouth again, you'll never leave him alone about the gun as it was the reason he's under this Hometree since he's still useful for you and specially for your clan. He inhales quietly, preparing himself for whatever will happen to him the next twenty-seven hours.
This will be a long day for him....
"What do you mean it is not working?" You ask gruffly with your brows furrowed in irritation as you watched Jake holding the gun you gave him back in the order to teach you how to make thunder only for him to tell you that it is not working anymore.
"It ran out the bullets... this is the last magazine. I told you already" Jake replied you with his tone dropped lower than his breath, explaining about why the gun does not work by how the bullets ran out already from the night you met him, left only empty magazine on his palm as he presented it to you.
Your brows furrowed tighter in grown irritation, even Jake has explained to you from the very first meet that the gun cannot be used if the bullets run out like a bow without an arrow, you resist to believe his words until he shows it to you that he was not a lair.
"Then how it can be worked again?" You ask harshly with your narrows eyes snapped to glare at him in demanding, you have wasted your time too much on this empty gun, you want this thing works fast and quick you prove your point to the clan that Jake is useful, and to prove yourself to your mother also.
"Well, we need to get a magazine" Jake replied simply with his casual tone as his gaze finally brave enough to hold yours, he sees how irritated you are just because the gun in his hands did not work like you expected.
"And where can we get this magazine thing?" You ask instantly as soon as he finished his sentence as if you were in rush, wanting to create the thunder by your own making your tail whipped behind showing how almost impatient you were.
Jake fell silent for a second after hearing your inpatient respond, brow raised slightly amazed by how eager or rather impatient you were to ask where you can search for a magazine. "A solider camp would have it" then he finally replied, slightly wonder of what you will going to do next.
You did not respond him instantly after hearing Jake informed you about where you could find more of the magazine as you paused, gazing away with your brows furrowed tighter as if you were thinking about something in your head, having Jake's gaze freely lands on your features and not being glared at.
Jake found your features drowning, even though you looked completely different from the female humans he has been seeing in his entire life on the Earth but that does not make you less beautiful, only to look more intrigued drowning him closer as his gaze lingered on your face
Before Jake snapped out of it once your yellow eyes glance up at him after seconds of awkward silence, you did no say anything as you hold his gaze and neither of you speak, like the time just stopped.
"Come" Your voice broke the silence as you demand him to follow with you turning on your heel and turned to let out calls to your trusted warriors of two as they instantly acknowledge their tsakarem's order, just a second the warriors closed the distance each of Jake's side making him slightly confused
"Where are we goingβ?" Jake asks with wondering shows on his expression while forced to follow your steps into the forest with the warriors sandwiching him preventing his escape before he got shushed by then both with a hiss, making Jake swallows his curiosity down in his throat with you only spare him a glance through your shoulder before continue heading into the forest.
You lead the three men behind you through the forest with none dares to speak if you don't start including Jake that has two warriors trapping him between with their weapons prepared and won't hesitate if he even attempts to escape, which he won't.
It takes only half an hour for you to lead them to the place in your mind before you stopped in your track turning back to demand your warriors in native tongue before your hand found Jake's strong arm yanking him to you, then you slowly crouch down with Jake slowly followed your action as your free hand came up pushing the leave out of your visions. Revealing a camp full of soldiers tasked to hunt.
There, your gaze scans around the area of the camp seeing the supplies the Sky people use before your gaze lands on the different size of cages made for capturing the animals, you saw many of dead viperwolves, yerik or ever young angtsìk, all laid dead on the ground of cold metal. Your stare at the cruel thing Sky people have done to the poor animals, with your heart started to stir by rage.
"Is this where we could find that square little thing?" You finally break the silence as you ask him quietly referring the square little thing as the magazine, control your voice not too be so loud to alert the soldiers with your head turned to Jake, look at him with unreadable expression.
"Yes, it is" Jake replied, head turned to you to hold your gaze under this tension atmosphere with his heart trembled by surprise that you know where a camp held which shows how an expert you is in this forest.
You nod to acknowledge before turning back to your waiting warriors, waving your hand into a silent gesture as you ordered them to settle down around the camp await for any consequences that could be caused by a mistake you or Jake might do.
You turned to Jake with your expression harden as if you were demanding him through your eyes and Jake got flashback with that looks of yours, it's the same looks Colonel Miles Quaritch uses to order his fellow soldiers.
"You go get that thing we needed, I'll follow" You demand coldly with a mixed of seriousness in your tone as your head nodded toward the camp in silent gesture to Jake that he has to be the one leading you now to reach the camp without getting caught.
Jake was surprised that you let him lead you this time, judged by how independent you are he thought you would never let him do anything by his own in this forest, at all. So with a nod of his awkwardness he acknowledge your demand before slowly crouching through the bushes, making his steps as quiet as he could with you following behind.
Jake's gaze spotted your two warriors that are settling nearby await for the time to strike if anything went wrong as he feels shiver on his spine by this tension atmosphere when everything depends on him now, knowing how serious you are about making thunder thing.
You followed Jake behind closely as you keep your hands always on your bow just in case, moving through the bushes closing the distance to the camp as Jake and you finally reached the outer of camp, Jake still have his eyes forward focusing on where could possible has some of magazine left.
Reached a tent, the side of your eyes spotted a trapped yerik that is whimpering in pain calling for hopeless help as that made your attention poured onto the poor animal instead while Jake entered the tent searching for a magazine already, you were supposed to keep your eyes always on him but seeing an animal in pain makes your heart clenches, it was on of the lessons to be a tsahik, to guide all souls to Eywa.
Then just a swift of a moment you crouch toward the trapped yerik quietly holding your dagger up keeping your form hidden from the soldiers that are pacing around with Jake in the tent oblivious about your presence that is slipped away already as he was too busy searching for a magazine in many of the supplies boxes
You creep closer to the yerik, its eyes widen slightly as it saw your form approaching then it soften as if it knows that you were the one going to guide its soul to Eywa, the pain whimpering started to drop quiet as it stopped to squirm under the trap, you grip your dagger tight while chanting to bless the yerik before you end its pain.
"Hey!" But only just a second when you're going to end the yerik, a shout from one of the soldiers pierced the air loudly making your eyes snapped toward the man instantly before other soldiers turned attention to you with their guns held up aiming at you.
You hissed before the soilders started to shoot toward your way making the forest screams as you move in swift dodging the bullets on your way as you ran along the camp, letting out a call to your stand-by warriors to attack the soldiers while you seek for a cover from those bullets.
Jake's head snapped toward the shooting noises outside the tent instantly in the same time he finally found a magazine then he heard your calls to your warriors making his chest tighten into a knot as his ears pinned against his head, wonder stirs up as he get out from the tent to see what the actual hell going on.
Jake crouches down lower to spectating on the scene and to avoid the bullets, of course. As he sees you, moving along the camp dodging the bullets as you stopped by a cover holding the arrow firmly before you swift from the cover, drawing the bow as you fire the arrow, striking through the rider of metal suit making it collapsed just in a second. His eyes widen by amaze of how skilled you were to take down the metal suit that quick.
Jake continues to watch on the fight as you took down each by each of the soldiers with your warriors' help, their arrows did not miss any single shot which send shiver runs down to his spine, glad that you spared him in that night because if you did not, well... Jake does not want to think about it much.
The fight lasts only a few minutes before you and your warriors took down all the soldiers in the camp without getting any injury, you thank to the two warriors for their help out of appreciation by a nod of your head while one of them walked up to where Jake was spectating, yanking him up on his feet by his kuru making Jake grunt before draging Jake to you.
Your gaze met Jake's, looking at him casually like you did not just took down a whole squad of soldiers. "So? did you find that square thing?" you ask with your brow raised up in subtle wonder demanding him answer about the magazine you sent him to search.
"Yeah... a lot of it actually" Jake replied you with his tone dropped low making sure not to appear defiant toward you or you would slice his neck off as he answered to you then his head nodded toward the tent he went in earlier as a silent gesture to you that he actually found more than one magazine.
You follow his gaze toward the tent for a second before you return your gaze to him as it lingers on his face for a second before you turn to your warriors, nodding your head in a gesture. "Gather what is useful" you order in your casual tone but sure a strong demand as your warriors nod to acknowledge as the one who was holding Jake's kuru release him free, strode over to the tents to search for the useful thing you asked for.
You turn away as soon as your warriors strode to the tents by your command, walking up to a dead body of a solider you killed before your hand reaches for your arrow that strike through the heart, pulling it from the dead body as the blood is still fresh, dripping from the tip before you strode away moving to the next dead body to collect your arrow.
Jake swallows hard as his Adam's apple blobbing after seeing the scene you pulled your arrow off from the dead body, sending chills run through his body as he could feel himself froze on the spot just to witness the scene, learning that you could be kind and surprisingly fierce.
Which was one of the reasons that makes him feel impressed by you.
Returning to the Hometree as the night falls, your warriors have brought back the useful weapons from the Sky people's camp as it full by many unfamiliar stuff you and your people have not seen as you presented them to your parents and sure it made them taken aback that you kept your promise, to make the clan stronger by those weapons.
Now you, standing with Jake holding the loaded gun in your hands as you hold it up toward a fruit you set in as a target listening to Jake's words on teaching you how to hold the gun properly with your gaze still locked on that fruit, moving your fingers on the cold metal as Jake told you to.
"No, like this" Jake corrects you as his calloused hands placed over yours, fixing your posture on holding the gun as he closed the distance between you and him with his skin ghosts on yours slightly.
"Like this?" You ask Jake while following his instruction as your fingers moved following his gesture before your posture got better, holding the gun more firmly.
Jake nods in approval after seeing you adjusted your posture like he said you to before he steps back creating some distance as he just realized how close he was with you earlier. "Yes, just like that" he approves, gaze lingers on you that seems eager to make thunder judging by how tight you grip the gun handle
"Now move your finger slightly on the trigger" Jake continues with his instruction on telling you what to do next.
You did not respond or ask any question, you took his instruction as your point finger on the trigger moves slightly before you shoot straight to the fruit infront of you at the distance creating loud noise similar to thunder as the fruit before you completely crushed by the bullets, the juice started leaking like a river as the result of it makes your eyes widen and lips parted slightly in amaze.
Jake only looks at you that were amazed by the gun in silent, it was new to him to see this expression of yours when all he has seen so far was only your casual and irritated. Seeing you amazed by something that is very common to him makes him feel slightly adores you of even how harden you appeared, deep down you're just a soft-soul.
"You're free to go now, Jake Sully" Then you broke the silence as your voice snaps out of Jake's mind making him flinch slightly to your declare, free to leave? so you will just let him walk out from your clan so easily after you get what you wanted?
"My warriors will take you to the nearest camp of your people, then you shall walk on your own path" You added without looking at him, your gaze still on the gun in your hands as you inform about your intention to return Jake to his people after he has already helped you to make thunder, it was that simple.
Jake listens to your words, considering your offer to take him to the nearest camp of his people then let flee, it was actually a good idea to finally return to where he belongs, either way this place is not what he should be staying, a dreamwalker among the Na'vi, it was out of place like a black sheep full of white ones
But before he'a going to agree on your offer, Grace's words rang up in his mind, if he learns anything from your clan, the words clung into his mind like a prayer and he found himself in the depth of his heart... wanting to stay, that's right, maybe he could stay to learn more about your people, to learn more of the Na'vi, to learn more of you.
Jake does not want to leave, not just yet.
"Hey... uh, what about you teach me your way too? in the exchange that I taught you how to use a gun" Jake finally speaks after seconds of drowning in his thoughts fighting with those little conflicts in his mind before the thoughts of him wanting to stay won completely.
You glance back at him instantly with your brows furrowed in confusion after hearing his suggestion about you teaching him your people's way in an exchange for him that he has taught you how gun works which sure sounds a little confusing and ridiculous for you since why a Sky man like him wanted to learn about your way, a Na'vi.
"Why'd you want to learn about our way? it'll be useless for you" You reply with your casual tone as always but it does sound cold, turning completely to him as you held the gun down to pour your focus more on this serious conversation with Jake.
Jake was taken aback by your respond making his lips curled up slightly, you were right, it'll be useless for him as a Sky people even he has learned about your people's way, he found himself drown in hesitation of his decision if he has made it a right thing to do judging by how you look so confused by his suggestion.
"Yes... I know" Jake admits with a slow nod of his head, could not argue the fact you just said to him in respond, but he won't just let you think that his willingness to learn about your culture is worthless.
"But I've taught you how to make thunder, yes? in the exchange I want to learn yours too. I want to learn the reason why your clan seek for more strength" Jake replied you with his tone became more deep and serious showing you that his intention was clear and loud to stay, learning a little by little about the Mangkwan and why do they seek for more strength while they're already a feared clan.
Then Jake's gaze drop onto the metal machine you're carrying for a second before his gaze flicks back to hold yours. "And... there's a lot of better things than this gun for you to use out there, you'll need me to teach you more" Jake says, offering you the better weapons your clan could use with his head tilted awaiting fir your respond.
Your eyes sparkling for a second by interest mixed with slight excitement hearing Jake has offered you more of the machines you can use and those words mean strength, the more weapons you got the more strength your clan has become. Jake knows that this is an offer you can't reject, that's why he brought that up in the very first place.
And seeing your reaction as he brought up the new weapons, he found himself feel slightly adore to you. It's like offering a new toy to a cat.
"Fine, I'll teach you. Jake Sully" After considering his offer, you finally speak as you agreed to the offer with a nod of your head to acknowledge. It was a fair on how he has taught you how to use the gun, and you'll be teaching him about your way in the exchange. You have to admit in respect, Jake was smart about that.
Holding the gun tight in your hands your long legs started to strode as your shoulders brush against his, you paused with your gaze glance up to hold his. "Gain your strength, Jake Sully. We'll start in the early morning" you inform him about the schedule of his learning in the next morning with your expression sure still remains casual, but Jake has noticed that your gaze soften than ever.
"I won't be late" Jake replied confidentially with his head nodded in acknowledgement to your information about the schedule, early morning, he has been always hating that words ever since he was a marine, it was painful. But this time he'll try, just for you.
You did not respond anything back to Jake only a nod of your head in acknowledgement to his confident reply, he was an ambitious one, and that was what you like on a men. Then you turned your gaze away from him, strode away from the area as you headed to the Hometree of your clan.
Jake watches you leave in the silence of this cold night long enough for your form to disappeared into the enormous ancestry tree before his hand came up pushing his hair backwards with a heavy sigh, what the hell did he just do, signing himself for a marine again by being your student?
He shook his head pushing the thoughts aside, he can't return his words now after he has already promised you to learn about your culture and you already agreed to teach him, if he returns his words he'll be definitely killed by you. But at last he'll get a chance to gain your respect.
Grace better be grateful of his sacrifice.

Jake slowly stirs up from his unconscious state after being brutally hit right at the back of his neck making his vision went black instantly and his head sure went numb, he lets out a low grunt in his throat as he started to prop himself up by his elbows.
Gaze looking around the unfamiliar area, seems like a hut, Jake's brows furrowed in confusion and eyes narrowed, scanning around the area that gives him some unknown atmosphere running through his spine.
Then his gaze lands on his bag that he has been carried since his team landed on the forest, filled with many things he needs, dagger, magazines and a fewer of emergency foods, and his gun was there, placing beside the bag.
Jake saw an opportunity, his body moves before his brain could perform a thought as he was going to reach for the bag and gun, but the coldness of sharp blade touches his throat, close to his pulse point.
"I would not move if I were you, Sky man" You say in your casual tone but somehow, Jake could feel chills run through his veins making blood runs cold, you were behind him have been observing him while he was unconscious. Your presence was unaware enough for him to not knowing you were there all this time.
Seeing Jake's hands slowly came up beside his head, you feel slight of satisfy acknowledge his surrender you slowly pull the dagger away from his throat leaving a linger of chills on his skin.
You shift from his back to face him, your expression was unreadable as you take a look at him in silence before you reach to grab his kuru, both hands tracing along the braid as you feel intrigued of how he looks so much alike you but not quite your people, so close yet so far.
Then you glance up at him, gaze met, Jake could feel the weight of your gaze and the tension of atmosphere that increases, Jake does not know what were you thinking about him, your formidable self is enough to make a marine like him goes blank.
"What is your name, Sky man" Then after a minute of awkward silence, you finally ask a question to break the silence. Your tone still plain as ever and gaze that demands answer.
Jake's lips curled slightly before licking his lips as his ear flick, feeling the demand hidden in your tone. "Jake, Jake Sully" Then he replied, his tone almost betray him as how quiet it was and he couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed of how stupid he'd look to you.
"Jake Sully" You repeat his name as the syllables roll on your tongue, your accent runs thick and it almost sound like a beautiful hum for Jake.
You shift, now kneeling before him as you study his expression, noticed how his ears flatten at the way you move closer to him. This Sky man was almost easy to read for you.
"Why a Sky man like you, wandering forest in night? with that metal thing in your hands" You ask him the next question, sure that your encounter with him was an accident since you and your warriors were just having a night hunt for foods, until you heard the sound of thunder piercing through the night which leaded you to Jake.
Jake blinks, considering your question, sure you'd ask him why was he there walking in the forest in the night like an idiot and even got chased by a palulukan. Jake was not sure where to start since this situation was a little... complicated for him.
But before he could ever reply, your voice cut through the atmosphere. "Were you sent to hunt also?" You ask another question yet he still did not answer the previous one, you wanted to know his intention of why a Sky man, an Avatar like him wandered in the forest alone when it's rarely for the Sky people to dare to being out in the night of Pandora.
Jake blinks again as he was taken aback, you considered him being chased as hunting? That was such an intrigue thing for him that you view that situation otherwise. Holding your gaze with his lips curled for a second he finally respond. βI was notβ¦ hunting, I was suppose to do someβ¦ researchβ Jake replied with his tone once again betrayed him, Jakeβs eyes squeeze shut immediately after realizing how heβd have sounded to you, embarrassing himself for a second time.
Your brow raised in slight surge of wonder as he mentioned the word research, that was such an odd word to you. You did not respond back as your expression was enough for Jake to know that you did not truly understand his words.
Jake inhales quietly, acknowledge your stare of subtle confusion, of course you wouldn't understand him.
βI was just... learning, about this planet" Jake broke the silence after a second he has been quiet over your confusion, he feels his chest tighten in a shift of moment as he brought himself to reply you. You were not a much of talker which was hard for him to read you, you were not an open book, not even close.
"You call carrying that metal machine for killing as learning?" You retort back instantly as soon as he finished his sentence, the way your eyes narrowed Jake knows that he either doomed or just pissed you off which Jake would love to choose none.
"Your people have gained more pain than knowledge" You added, hands pulled away from his kuru as your gaze lingered on him for a second of moment, you and your clan have been acknowledging about the Sky people, deads and pain they gained, you have not yet see what good they gave Pandora in return.
Your tail flicks slightly by hidden emotion deep in your heart, now one of your hands came up as you place your hand bare on Jake's chest, feeling his heart beats beneath your palm. Sky people's blood was cold, but his, It's warm.
"The machine will poison your heart, as long as you use it, your heart will turn black" You continue casually almost plain, there were no emotions mixed in your tone as you said the words and what you said is true. Once a person got drawn into the powers they held in killing, they'll be drown in obsession of blood came from their kills.
Jake was taken aback by your words as if you were lecturing him about the powers of the machine, how powerful it was for a planet like Pandora. Once someone satisfies on something, they'll seek more.
"Oh yeah? then why are you so interested in this machine, isn't that going to poison your heart too?" Jake asks a genuine question, the longest sentence he ever spoke since he got brought here, in your hut. He got what you were trying to say, the gun is what leads you to him and you were very much interested on that machine, yet you're saying that the machines are bad.
You fall silent, staring deep into his yellow eyes and Jake swears he could feel the atmosphere got more tensed because of your silence, you hold so much powers here and he knows. He swallows hard finding himself hold his own breath slightly with his chest tighten, aware that he might just piss you off, again.
"The machine is what make you stronger" But you just reply in your casual tone, no mixed of irritation nor sarcasm, Jake lets go of his held breath feeling relief floods into his heart as you did not just slice his neck off from him crossing the line earlier. But it was replaced by wonder, head tilted to your respond. Of course the gun makes Jake stronger, but what was your point of bringing it up?
You did not continue your speech instantly, only just stand on your feet with your gaze still hold his below, you're on higher place than him. And that's enough to declare who holds power here.
"And it will make us stronger also" You added, your tone even it was casual, Jake couldn't help but feel how cold it was to him. You and your clan did not care if the metal machine will poison your hearts, you only care about what makes Mangkwan stronger.
Bigger fish eats smaller fish. Stronger lives, weaker dies.
You then fall silent again, studying the shift of his expression that shows slight of discomfort and tension over your words earlier, weird, he did not scared of you at all. It's like he was just... amazed?
You brush the useless thoughts away before you walk away heading to the entrance of your hut, Jake stares at the way you move, your hips sway smoothly and your braided hair following your movements somehow make you alluring.
You stop at the entrance as your hand reaches for the flaps that closes the entrance, glancing back at him through your shoulder. "Come, Jake Sully. I have to present you to the Olo'eyktan" you say, not a request but a command for him to get up on his feet and follow your lead to the Olo'eyktan of the Mangkwan clan, your father.
You left the hut as you opened the flaps, leaving Jake sits still on the place as his brain couldn't quite catch on what was going on, but he was sure on one thing that your presence intimidated him in ease, your gaze alone could send shiver run down his spine. Never in his life encountering a woman beyond his league, and sure you caught his attention.
Jake stood up on his feet a second after, grunting quietly as he still feel the numb lingered on the back of his beck after getting hit by a bow, then he glances at his bag and the gun, he could just grab them and escape. But a thoughts came up stopping him, and where should he go? he has no knowledge about this lands and does not even know which part of Pandora he is right now.
Shaking his head with a low growl of irritation, Jake strode towards the entrance of the hut as he reaches for the flaps opening it, but instead of a warm welcoming he feels the coldness from the tip of a spear, not one but two, close to both sides of his neck. Jake startled, eyes widen as his ears pinned back, tail whipping behind and chest tighten again.
"Mawey, Mangkwan" Your voice pierces through the air as if it was a call of angel saving Jake's life, his gaze snapped towards you that is standing not so far away from him and two Mangkwan warriors that are pointing their spears on his neck, it was their instinct to always be prepared for the threat and as your guards. They still aware even you just brought the dreamwalker into your hut.
"Follow" You command casually, sending a silent order through your gaze to the two warriors before they lowered the spears down away from Jake's neck only to grab both of his arms firmly, pushing him forwards to make him follow your paces.
You walk along the Hometree of Mangkwan clan with your chin held high, keeping your composure as the tsakarem. Jake notices how the clan members crouch down to not match your height level respectfully making sure they were always lower than you, he found it interesting, and he knows instantly that you hold much power here in the clan, and he happened to involved himself with you.
You reach the heart of the clan where the totem of the clan held, there the Olo'eyktan stands tall with his family, your mother and sister, Varang. Surrounded by the clan members that start to gather around by curiosity.
You greet your father and mother, hand touches your forehead and waved towards them, they return the gesture back as well. But your sister did not, she kept herself quiet as she gazes away from you, you did not mind her dismiss only to smile slightly to the young girl. Knowing well she's just shy.
"Sempul, Sa'nok" You return to what brings you here at the heart of the Mangkwan at the very first place, you called your parents loud and clear with your expression remains casual as always then you glance back at your warriors, sending a silent order by your gaze.
"I found this dreamwalker, wanderer around our territory" You continue, gesturing towards Jake as he was pushed forwards to stand behind you by the warriors, Jake grunts slightly before he glances up looking at your standing tall parents, then you.
Your father silents, only your mother surging forwards Jake as she circling him, inspecting his form as if he was a herb, then her eyes, your eyes, met together with you holding her gaze.
"Why did you bring him here, ma'ite?" Your mother asks coldly, looking at you as if she was judging you about how you just brought back an outsider let alone a dreamwalker who wears Na'vi skin.
Your lips curled slightly, feeling the weight of your mother's words overwhelming you, you swallow with inhaling before you dare to meet your mother's gaze again. "He has a way to make us Mangkwan stronger" you replied with confident, holding your chin up to meet your mother's gaze.
The clan started to whisper about what you just said, their expressions mostly go to the same way, they were confused. How a dreamwalker could make them the pure Na'vi stronger in any way possible, they only here to destroy no less and now you, saying that Jake can make your clan stronger.
Without waiting for your mother's words, you held up the bullet you managed to collect from the palulukan corpse at the recent hunt where you met Jake, you spent a while trying to slice the dead beast finding where the hole lead, then you found it, a bullet.
"This, damages palulukan more than an arrow does" You say, presenting the bullet that is still stained by palulukan's blood, proving your words that you were not lying. You hold the bullet high as if it was a prize to show the whole clan.
The clan whispers grow louder, their eyes locked on the metal little thing in your fingers that could damage a feral beast faster than an arrow that is twice size the bullet, they were amazed of the possibilities they have never known of.
"He could teach us, Sa'nok, Jake Sully will" You continue as your tone dropped to be more softer almost pleading but you were just convincing your mother to listen to your words, gesturing your hand towards Jake that is standing behind clueless on what is going on, he only glances at both of your mother and you.
Your mother silents for a second, her gaze glances at Jake while considering your words of convincing. You know what your mother was thinking, the weight of your words was not enough.
"Befriended with Sky people is a risk, ma'ite" Your mother finally reply, her tone was colder than ever as she warned you about becoming a friend with Sky people, and yes you couldn't deny the truth in it. Sky people could not be trusted even in their pinkskin form or dreamwalker form.
You silent, swallowing as you were taken aback by the ugly truth your mother informed, but you saw how it was already, how Jake could damage the palulukan alone with his demon machine and you did not spare him just for him to stand here like an idiot watching mother and daughter arguing.
You inhale, gathering yourself together as you think of a new way to bargain with your mother, you want your clan to grow stronger, yourself to stronger and Jake, he'll make it possible. "Mangkwan will grow stronger in this forest, we will continue to be weak if we try nothing" you speak with your tone dropped deeper, your expression turns serious as you hold your chin high again.
"Mangkwan has been finding new ways to make the clan stronger, isn't it, Sa'nok?" You added, holding your chin even higher as if you were challenging your mother but deep down, your heart beating fast, hoping that this last convincing will work.
Your mother falls silent and it was clear that she was taken aback by your defiant with the way you hold your chin high infront of her, she was amazed by how ambitious you are to make the clan stronger than ever, even that it means for Mangkwan to alliance with Sky people.
After a second of silence consuming the clan, your mother nods as your expression lighten slightly knowing that you've completely convinced her. "You may keep him" your mother says in casual tone, has given you an approval of your request.
"Thank you, Sa'nok" You say with your tone becomes softer, hand touches your forehead as you waved it towards your mother in silence gesture of appreciation that your mother has let you keep Jake in your care, and would have him help the Mangkwan grow stronger.
Jake witnessed the scene in silence, in fact, he did not even dare to speak a word. Your presence was enough for him to feel overwhelmed now your mother who you got your eyes from even make it worse, one gaze from your mother and Jake could feel himself shiver.
Now, he has to be in this clan under this Hometree in the middle of nowhere where you, his caretaker will try everything to convince him on helping the clan to get stronger by his ways of Sky people. The metal machines, the killing guns, everything that'll make Mangkwan feared by others.
Jake sighs, wishing he was not lost in that night.

Pandora could easily kill you, that was what Jake being told when his first arrive at Pandora, the planet that everything look so much better than his dying one. But he was not here to be a visitor on this paradise, he was assigned to be a soldier replacing his scientist brother, Tom Sully.
But now here he is, wandering around this unfamiliar lands under the night where everything glow in dark after he got lost from his team by an accident, Grace and Norm would curse him for his stupidity again. His hands grab tightly around the trigger of his gun, tail lashing as his sharp gaze tracing around the forest with his ears perked up all alert and aware of the possible threats that could wound or even unalive him in a second. His long legs still stroking further more deep in the forest with his head has nothing but thoughts of how he could possibly return to his team before he wandered too deep in this forest.
Crack⦠his head snapped towards the noise instantly as he heard the sound of a torn stick then followed by the leaves rustling, his eyes narrowed and his muscles tensed, holding the trigger tightly as his feet still on the spot with his heart bests faster and blood runs cold, head whipping around like a helicopter searching what caused that noise.
Then the beast emerged from the dark, a palulukan, probably the same one that had chased him far enough to make him got lost fro, his group, circling him with its fang bared and quiet growls. It might have come back to take Jakeβs life after it failed and that sure irritated the beast.
Jake took some careful steps back from the beast, gaze still locked on its every move study the beast and aware of the next move the beast will make. Then after a minute of staring each other the palulukan decided to pounce of Jake in a second in the same time Jakeβs reflex of a marine kicks in, he pulled the trigger shooting the beast for some shots making the forest roars in the night like thunder before turning on his heel and sprints off, taking in Graceβs advice about the beast.
Jake runs as fast as he could with his gaze frequently glance back through his shoulder checking up on the beast, and of course Itβs still chasing him in furious after he has shot it multiple times, he has angered it he suppose. Jake dodges many obstacles while keeping his attention paid to the beast chasing after him like a dog with rabies, his heart beats fast like it was in race sending adrenaline runs through his veins and body demanding him to run faster or heβll get eaten.
He finally found a chance to take a second stop, holding the gun up shooting the beast making the forest roars again. The beast seems to be injured enough for it to stumbled on its paws and collapsed. Jake lets out a breath he did not know he held in relief that he could survive a night after being chased, but then, the palulukan slowly stood on its paws, gaze landed on Jake instantly before it lets out a roar of rage. Jakeβs ears flatten as his eyes widen in frighten, before he held up his gun again ready to fire as well as the beast sprinting its way to him.
Swishβa mysterious arrow shot straight into the beastβs neck in pulse point making It rolling on the ground, body still instantly as It has retuned to Eywa. Jakeβs eyes widen in surprise of the scene he just witnessed, the beast got killed in a second by just an arrow, but before he could form any more thoughts the cries rang up in shadows with footsteps approaching. Jake knows well but to just stand still waiting for whatever It is to emerge because there was no way his team would sound like that when theyβre here to recuse him.
βUghβ!β But too late, when Jake was going to move his feet he got hit by a heavy bow on his neck making him collapsed onto the ground like that palulukan, his gun flew away from his hands the moment he got hit and when he tried to defend himself, he got yanked by the kuru making him wince and grunt.
Jake gazes around at the mysterious group of Naβvi, they donβt look like the Omatikaya that Grace has shown him, they looked moreβ¦ intimidated even though he views the Naβvi to look all the same. Some of them went to surround the dead palulukan examining and whispering something that too far for him to hear, and some holding up their weapons towards him.
Then a form of a woman approaches, you moved along your fellow clan members smoothly as you headed towards the fresh dead palulukan first and examine the body how it did not just got an arrow strikes through its skin but many holes as well, you have not seen something like this before, never.
βTsakarem!β One of your warriors calls, his accent was thick, snatching your attention towards the unfamiliar Naβvi who dressed weirdly and was being held by his kuru, you closed the distance between them as the warrior presents you the metal machine that looks nothing like your clanβs weapons. You hold that thing close, examining it with wonder as your eyes narrowed.
βHe was the one carrying itβ The warrior adds, the one who was holding Jake yanks his kuru up making him grunt as the warrior gestures you to Jake. You look at him as if you were trying to study him as his uncanny features that do not belong to the Naβvi.
You crouch down to match Jakeβs eyes level, head tilted while your gaze hold his wondering ones, then came up your slime hand as you started to trace your fingers along his cheekbone studying his uncanny features. He was sure not your people nor anyβs, then here he is wearing your skin, wandering in the night with a killing machine in his hands. Then your gaze traces around his form and his weird-looking clothes, you spotted the letters on his shirt, RDA, the same similar letters you have seen before that comes along with metal birds that seldom passed by your clan.
βYouβre a sky peopleβ You speak, your tone was sure casual but also mixed with intimidation before you stood up on your feet, stand tall before Jake with him on his knees as you hold out the gun before him. Chin held up looking down at him. βWere you the one damaging the palulukan with this weapon?β You asked.
Jakeβs brows furrowed in confusion, your accent was thick and thatβs enough for him to explain everything, youβre one of the Naβvi Grace has introduced him to know for basics and thank god he agreed to let Grace teaches your language because if he did not, he wouldnβt understand a word you say.
βUhβ¦ yes, I was the oneβ Jake replies awkwardly, and sure his accent was bad enough for your fellow clan members to exchange glances, he still hold your gaze from where he kneel before you whichβ¦ he does not know if that he was awkward because itβs his first time encountering the real Naβvi or is it because you look like a dream from his view.
You did not respond instantly, only to stare at him for a moment then you glance at the gun again for a second before returning your gaze to Jake.
βHow did you make this thing work?β You ask, your tone sure plain but mixed with demand as you did demand him to answer your wonder about the metal machine he used to wound the palulukan in just a second because you witnessed everything he did earlier by following the sound of forest roars during your night hunt with your warriors and then you saw him, fighting with the palulukan with that weapon, much faster than a bow, and you could only think if your clan got to use this weapon which maybe will make the hunts easier and got more foods for the whole clan.
Jake swallows hard as his Adamβs apple bobs in nervousness, his lips curled for a second before he licks his lips. Responding to your demanding question. βItβs not a toyβ¦ and it canβt be used anymoreβ He replied, telling you how he canβt show how the gun work now since the bullets run out the second your arrow struck into the palulukanβs neck saving his life just in time. But now here you are demanding him to show you how the gun works.
Your eyes narrowed as same as your ears pinned back in slight irritation, clearly not happy about his answer you demanded. βYour people can make thunder, you can make it again. Show meβ You demands again as your tone drops lower, holding out the gun to him in silent sign for him to take it and show you how to make the forest roars.
Jakeβs eyes also narrowed, taken aback by your defiant and still demanding him to show you how the gun works even he has explained for you already but seems like you did not understand at all. βI said It canβt be used anymore, Itβs like a bow without an arrow. No more thunderβ Jake explains again with his tone also drops lower, looking up at you with your expression shifts slightly and he could tell that you were upset about his answer that turned you down, the way your eyes narrowed even more and he knows heβs doomed.
Your eyes narrowed, teeth gritted as you heard Jakeβs reply that sure irritates you. You could just kill him off right now but you refused to, he still can be used to teach you about this metal machine even he did not want to youβll force him to do so anyway.
βTake himβ You turn to demand your warriors in deep, serious tone before you strode off the spot with the gun still in your hands. Jakeβs eyes widen after he heard your cold demand in alert making his tail lashed behind, gaze glancing around the warriors that are surrounding him started to move.
βWaitββ Too late, Jake was going to protest as his gaze locked at your form started to disappear into the shadows with some of the warriors following behind before he got hit by the same heavy bow at the back of his neck right at his occiput making him knocked out instantly in his place with everything Jake sees went black, and the last thing he saw was you, drifting away from him.
