it’s pretty amazing how a world that has used nazis as the Default Evil in everything from movies to comics to video games for the past 70+ years suddenly can’t call them as they see them

It might be because of this, though. Especially the idea of Nazis as some kind of supervillains who are pure evil, instead of regular humans following a disgusting ideology. Now people can’t recognize that regular white people were Nazis. They had families and jobs and went to church and maybe were even friendly towards most people while they weren’t helping to murder other people by the millions. So now unless they literally look and act like Red Skull 24/7 people will argue that they aren’t actually a Nazi.

yeah i have a huge problem with nazis being used as the Default Evil in the first place & i have posted about it before & its role in the exploitation of jewish/rromani pain. it trivializes what the nazis actually did as actual, factual people who killed real living human beings. they are not supernatural & their evil is not universal, as we are now seeing by the fact that those who aren’t targeted by them can’t even recognize them. but if this were a fucking comic book or super hero movie, white people could spot the villains from a mile away.

This is also why bad representation that demonizes already stigmatized groups is so dangerous; it reinforces the belief that those groups are not human.
