I wish my supply run went better.
I see. I feel no love Val. No love at all.Â
You'll totally feel the love when you get hurt and need pain meds. You can thank me for that.
I wish my supply run went better.
Did you get me anything?
I wish. I just got medications for the hospital, we ran out of a lot of stuff.
I wish my supply run went better.
So what stopped you?
My partner got shot.
I wish my supply run went better.
Are you really surprised though?
Well, yeah. We were at a big pharmacy and everything.

I wish my supply run went better.
I didn't get as much stuff as I wanted.
The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan never saw her smirk, keeping his eyes closed. He honestly didn’t want to focus on the road or her driving or anything outside of himself. He clamped his hand over the injured arm, falling silent for awhile after that. The painkillers started working after a little bit, vastly improving his state of mind. The pain was fading out and his brain was starting to feel warm and fuzzy instead of overloaded like before. This was nice. He actually felt happy all of a sudden- or at least content. He opened his eyes and turned his head to look at her, realizing all over again that she was topless. His face broke into a smile as he watched her driving the car like that.
"You know that date we went on that time?" He asked finally, too hazy to realize that this was probably a bad idea. His mental state felt so good just then that it seemed like a great idea to bring up the past and be brutally honest about it. It wasn’t like there’d been any good reasons for why he’d felt it better to just never mention it before…
"That was maybe the worst date of my life. Yeah, definitely the worst." He nodded, not realizing or caring if he was making much sense or not.
Valerie looked over at Ethan as he rambled about their date, not sure why he was actually bringing something like that up. It was odd that he was smiling and staring at her, but she wasn't going to hold it against him. Some people just got loopy on the pain medications sometimes, so she was going to let whatever happened between now and the time they wore off pass without any trouble after the fact.
"It wasn't a real date, that's probably why it was so bad," Valerie explained to him, wanting him to remember the fact that she emphasized on the 'friendly' part of the friendly date they went on. Ethan was too old for her, she wasn't interested in him like that, so the date was bound to be something bland and unexciting. It was good that he was still awake — technically, at least — and talking. At least that meant he didn't die of blood loss. Valerie knew she had to keep the conversation going on it, though. "What made it totally bad?"
The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan was relieved when she admitted defeat, though her followup apology only served to annoy him a little more. He didn’t dwell on it though, too preoccupied with getting into the bottle of pills with only his left hand.  It proved to be an irritating endeavor and when he finally got it open he tossed a generous dose into his mouth to swallow. He had glanced over the dosage info on the side of the bottle but he was less interested in how safe it was as long as it relieved some of the pain.
He breathed a sigh after swallowing the pills, closing his eyes and leaning against the headrest with the hope that the drugs would begin working quickly.
"I’m gonna want to apologize for most of this later." He was really just thinking it, not even immediately realizing that he’d said it out loud.Â
I’m gonna want to apologize for most of this later. Valerie smirked slightly at that, accelerating a bit when she noticed a few straggler zombies on the side of the road. It was less out of fear of the undead and more out of not wanting to see what former humans were still stumbling around. She was already stressed out and generally anxious from this supply run, she didn't need a waterfall of tears because of the infected dead people.
"You don't have to apologize, it was all me, man," she told him, not realizing that he didn't mean to say what he did out loud.Â
The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan was starting to get really pissed off as she spoke about other people needing the medications he was trying to find for himself.Â
“I need painkillers. It’s not like I’m wanting these to get high or something- I’m fucking in pain Valerie. Jesus Christ- did you miss the part where I caught a bullet with my arm?” He growled, pulling a bottle of pills from the bag.Â
Valerie shut up as Ethan became more upset with her, not wanting to risk him getting more upset and somehow bringing more pain to himself. It wasn't like she could really stand up to him anyways — he worked for the mayor, he had the power to kill her if he really wanted to. So who was she to keep him from getting what he wanted?
"Fine," she said quietly, just looking ahead at the road as she drove. She wasn't going to bother anymore. At least she tried to get the medications for the town. "I'm sorry."
The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan grabbed onto the armrest as she started abruptly braking, gritting his teeth at the pain. He looked over at her with an irritated frown, wondering how she’d feel with a hole in her arm.
"I don’t need to handle it. I’m just gonna take some Vicodin- it’ll be fine. It’s not like there’s a rule saying we can’t use any of the stuff we picked up out here. I pick up stuff for myself all the time.” He argued, resuming his efforts to search through the bag in the backseat. He could hear the rattle of painkillers from inside the bag, taunting his pain.
"But other people — " Valerie said, trying her best not to mention her ex's name. She didn't know how Ethan would respond to her talking about Patrick and the pain he was enduring, especially when she had told him previously how scared she was that he was going to kill her in the last purge. "— they need pain killers. It's not like you're taking cigarettes or something, Ethan!"

The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan was impressed as she listed off what she’d found, thinking any of those would do. He’d be willing to try anything right then to help with the pain he was in. He frowned as she said he’d have to wait and then proceeded to distract him with dreams of pie. Again- this chick was unbelievable. He rolled his eyes and unbuckled his seatbelt, twisting around in his seat to grab at the bag in the backseat.
"No way am I waiting to get back to town. That’s a good hour from here even if you floored it." He growled in pain as his arm protested the movement, doing his best to ignore it as he tried to unzip the bag and search for anything he could take to help with the pain.
"H—Hey! Ethan, put that back on!" Valerie exclaimed, starting to break when he started to grab stuff in the back seat. She didn't want to risk anything, especially when he was already injured. It was one thing to be shot — most likely non-fatally — but breaking a neck was something completely different.Â
She wanted to nudge him hard, hoping that that would push him in the direction of 'don't do that'. Knowing how wounded animals worked, though,Valerie refrained from it. "C'mon, it's not that far. You can handle it!"
The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan looked over at her with a withering glare in response to her joke, watching in disbelief as she pulled his seatbelt across him. Sometimes it was hard to believe that these things were actually happening when he was around Valerie- she was insane. It wasn’t the first time that he’d felt this way about her but this was definitely the strongest occurrence of it.
"Of course it fucking hurts." He snapped through gritted teeth at her as she asked. The bullet has gone clean through but not before it’d torn through his muscle and flesh. He knew he should be grateful that it hadn’t hit a bone but the pain was getting worse along with his attitude.
"Please tell me you found something stronger than Tylenol back there." He swallowed hard, glancing towards the backseat where her bag was.Â
"C'mon, Ethan, I'm trying to help you out here," Valerie said, not appreciating him snapping at her. Granted, she knew exactly the reasoning why, but it didn't make it any better on the receiving end of it.
She nodded, biting her lower lip. Thankfully, she had been able to grab some important stuff. At least a few bottles. "I got morphine. Vicodin too. And a bunch of stuff for colds and ear infections. But I didn't get a whole lot, so you have to wait until we bring it to the hospital. I'm sorry, I really am," she told him, knowing that the needs of many outweighed the few. "Just try not to think about it. Think about the pies you're gonna eat back home, yeah?"
The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan leaned his head back against the headrest, closing his eyes and focusing on the lightheaded feeling. He kind of wanted to pass out and just wake up whenever they got back to town- that way if they were intercepted and killed on the way he would never even know. He opened his eyes again as she spoke, lifting his head to look over at her. He was caught off guard by her sudden topless-ness, frowning in confusion.
"Just drive the damn car." He grabbed the wet shirt from her, wrapping it around his arm as tightly as possible and clamping his hand over it, hoping to slow the bleeding. He had to admit that the getaway driver being a topless woman had definitely made the situation more interesting- comforting himself that this would make for a great story to tell when he was old and unimpressive.
"Say please, Ethan," Valerie said, trying to joke her way out of the stress. She reached over, pulling the seat-belt over him and clicking it in to make sure he stayed safe while she drove. Who knew if she was going to hit a zombie on accident on the way back?
As she drove, she kept looking over to her passenger to make sure he was still alive. Once he passed out, that could mean the beginning of the end. "Does it hurt?" the blonde asked, returning her eyes to the road.
The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan realized there wasn’t time to worry about bandaging his arm, knowing they needed to get out of there before the zombies reached the car. He got into the passenger’s side, feeling a little light headed from everything. Her words sounded really far away as she spoke but he managed to hand her the keys covered in blood from his hand. He trusted her to get them out of there, figuring even if she drove like an elderly woman it would be enough. As long as they didn’t run into any raiders on the road they would probably be fine.
She locked the car doors once the two got in their seats, hoping that that would help them somewhat. Before they started driving, Valerie knew she had to act fast. She pulled her shirt over her head, prepared to use it as something to wrap around his wound. "Here, hand me your arm," she instructed, ready to wrap her wet shirt around him. The exposure of her bra didn't bother her — potential life or death or not, she wasn't shy about that kind of thing.
The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan refrained from saying what he wanted to say when she asked if he’d been shot, wondering if that could be any more obvious. He leaned on her as she arrived at his side, knowing he shouldn’t bite off the head of the one person that was here to help him.
"Just help me outside and help me bandage this up. It’ll be fine until we can get back. I don’t want to go back empty handed." He grumbled, starting to move towards the exit of the building. Right now he just really wanted to get out of the sprinkler system, his clothes completely soaked through by now between the blood and the water.
Valerie nodded to his directions, helping him walk to the outside. It was a relief to go from the loud and wet inside of that pharmacy to the outdoors, but only slightly. As expected, the sounds of the alarms had alerted a good amount of the zombies. They were still far enough to avoid, but close enough to make Valerie panic slightly.Â
Walking him the passenger side, the blonde tried her best to steady her breathing. All she had to do was remain calm until they got on the road. Well, until they got past the zombies. "I-I'll drive. I'll drive Ethan, don't worry," she told him, hurrying over to the driver's side of the car.

The Run — Valerie + Ethan
Ethan could see Valerie in his peripheral vision as she moved past them, hoping that she actually had a plan to get them out of this. He was momentarily impressed as he realized she’d pulled the fire alarm, his ears reeling from the miserably loud siren as the sprinklers started raining water down on them. He didn’t have time to full appreciate her idea though, the armed man not reacting calmly to the sudden disruption. Gunfire rang out and Ethan felt a sharp pain, unable to fully realize what was even happening as it all took place in a matter of seconds. He fell hard against a shelving unit, attempting to grab onto something to keep himself from falling but only managing to pull a large part of the display down with him. He was half buried in "As Seen on TV" products and he could feel his own warm blood pouring from somewhere on his body. It was hard to pinpoint the source of the pain yet, his brain too overloaded with extreme sensory responses. Pushing his way out of the pile of Genie Bras and Perfect Bacon Bowl kits he managed to reach over for his handgun that was laying on the floor, grabbing it and pointing it towards the man. The man was still caught off guard by the fire alarm and Ethan taking out the store display with a complete lack of grace- reacting too late as he saw Ethan reach for the gun. Ethan squeezed the trigger as the man tried to point the gun towards him, shooting the man directly in the chest. The man fell backwards against the aisle shelving, catching a few more bullets from Ethan’s gun before he crumpled to the floor.Â
Satisfied that the man was no longer a threat to anyone, Ethan dropped the gun and laid back against the cold linoleum floor. He closed his eyes as the water rained down onto his face, the sprinklers still under the impression that there was a fire that needed putting out. His heart was pounding, adrenaline pumping through his veins. It was only then that he was able to really appreciate the fact that he’d been shot- lifting his head to look down towards the source of the pain that he was now able to identify. His right forearm was bleeding, a good chunk of the skin taken out of it. He told himself it wasn’t that bad- it could have been a lot worse. As long as they could get the bleeding under control soon he’d be fine.
"Val-" He growled under his breath, forcing himself to a sitting position. "Val!" He yelled, grabbing his arm and covering the wound with his hand. The blood seeped between his fingers as he moved to stand, his head turning to look for his supply run companion.
Hearing the scuffle and the gunshots terrified Valerie. This wasn't supposed to happen. The sounds of displays knocking over and boxes falling didn't help the situation and fear that was overwhelming her. But Ethan would be okay. He worked for the mayor, he knew what he was doing. He wasn't going to die, right?
When she heard her partner yell for her, the blonde quickly hurried to him. She tried to ignore the dead man on the way, knowing that she was already partially at fault for him dying. If she didn't suggest the pharmacy the two wouldn't of crossed paths, she wouldn't of been at risk, and Ethan wouldn't of shot him. Noticing the blood, Valerie gasped. "You got shot?!" she exclaimed, pressing against him so that he didn't fall over due to any blood loss. "We need — we need..."Â
She was almost too stressed to continue talking. Ethan was shot. Ethan probably wasn't going to die, but once the adrenaline stopped, he was going to be in a lot of pain. And it was all her fault. "We need to head back. I got some stuff, in my bag — we can go back. I'll drive."
