My method is just start with a bullet point list of things you want to happen. Then flesh them out a little. Then decide the main arcs you want (these can be big or small and not all of them have to be fully explained in the final version you can just feel them happening in the background if you want, i.e a character getting more/less comfortable with x, vs the solving of a mystery). Then keep fleshing out your bullet points, maybe add a description or a line of dialogue to start building the scene around. Maybe decide what order these events will be in. Maybe put a note in about how this moment links to your arcs. Keep an open mond about discovering new arcs you might not have meant to include. Maybe write a first draft of a first chapter and boom now you have a decent framework of a story to just keep building on. I.e a make it exist first, you can make it good later.

I woke up this morning feeling pretty depressed and forlorn. This time of the year is always rough for me. This year I've been managing much better than usually, thanks to my writing, but this morning was rough.

Then my latest chapter got couple uplifting comments, and especially the one that was very appreciative of the way I've handled polyamory in Dice & Demons really lifted my spirits. I was back writing much faster than I would have without that boost.

Meanwhile another writer I'm talking with regularly got a negative (and unusually personal) comment on their latest work. There were plenty positive ones too, but those sharp ones tend to prick deep and often leave a long-lasting mark. For them, that one comment turned the day much worse.

when I was younger, I got food poisoning. I was supposed to recover from it, but I wound up with a bunch of nasty medical conditions instead. I never imagined I would become disabled from food.

so I am really glad I have been able to help spread the word every now and then about food safety and recalls, since it hopefully means a few less people going through what I have.
