Some reasons why used books are awesome
- If you don’t have a lot of money, but still want a personal library, they’re often a lot cheaper than new books.
- Textbooks/non-fiction books are often super expensive, so if you try to educate yourself on certain matters just for fun, used books are a good starting point (also works if you have to do it for school/uni/etc. but they often want the newest edition)!
- You can get them in all conditions. Some have only been read once and look as good as new. Some have slight traces of use, some have more - you can choose depending on what bothers you (or not). Some even have cute little notes to the previous owner’s loved ones (or even to you, the new owner) in them. They can tell stories beyond the one you bought them for.
- You can get books/editions that are out of print.
- If you don’t want to support an author (for whatever reason) but still want to read their books, you can just buy their books used and no money will go to them!
- Used bookstores are super charming! Digging through all the piles of books that are sometimes only provisionally organized is super fun!
