The most fascinating thing about Ultraman as a concept is the fact that this mysterious unknown being of light that came from a far away galaxy, a being so alien and unfamiliar to us, something beyond human comprehension... is actually very benevolent in nature.

The Ultras that did appear on Earth not come to rule or invade like any other sci-fi story involving aliens. They only came to help humanity face against whatever adversary is thrown at them because they sensed the strength to protect others in human hearts. Their selflessness and the potential to become better, kinder people is what resonated with these aliens, and that’s what why they reached out to Earth’s inhabitants.

We got:

- monster suits

- actually really kick ass action choreography

- writing that ranges from absolute cheeseball fun to extremely touching and human, sometimes in the same show

- extremely sincere, it knows what it is and feels no shame

- pretty men, sometimes crying

Some recommendations for shows you can watch for free right now:

Kamen Rider Ryuki - Absolutely iconic series. A young reporter accidentally gets embroiled in a supernatural death game involving a mirror world and monsters as competitors try to be the last man standing to receive a wish.

Future Sentai Timeranger - Some time cop recruits end up stranded in the past after a prison break of super criminals in the 30th century. They have to figure out how to survive in the year 2000 with the help of a local man trying to escape his father's legacy and hopefully stop the rightfully pissed off future criminals from destroying the world.

Ultraman Z (Subtitled or English dubbed) - A giant robot pilot in the Global Allied Forces becomes the host for an alien giant made of light on a mission to recover some lost power ups and stop a dangerous alien plot.
