The 1st configuration of the Dewoitine D.520 prototype in 1938.
It was powered by a HS 12Y-21 engine driving a two-bladed wooden propeller. It suffered from overheating problems. Subsequently, the two radiators built into the wings were replaced by a single underbelly radiator.

18 May 1940
During a patrol over the Aisne, 26-year old Sergeant-Chef François Morel shoots down a Heinkel 111.
As the German bomber spirals down, Morel is seen to parachute from his Curtiss H-75. A machine-gun bullet has gone through the windshield and hit the French pilot in the head.
He dies shortly after hitting the ground.
Within the space of eight days, Morel had shot down 12 enemy aircraft.

Breguet 690. First flown March 23rd, 1938.
Following a protracted development from 1934, the Breguet 690 was not built in sufficient numbers to make a difference in the Battle of France. Deployed as a heavily-armed ground attack aircraft, 230 aircraft in 3 models had been built.
