Orihime’s development starts because she wants to protect Ichigo, and she protects and helps him multiple times in the manga as she is usually by his side unlike Rukia who prefers teaming up with her hubby Renji.

Go read the book or educate yourself in the IH tag if you still aren’t able to get the manga or Orihime’s significance in Ichigo’s life.
