|| Bepo... my sweet fluffy boi, I miss you. I swear I'm gonna come back to you soon, because you're so cute and innocent. Unlike my other shitheads. You're so patient with me.
❝ I miss Captain... ❞
|| I’m going to be stepping away from RP. Don’t know when/if I’ll be back, so consider everything you have going with me dropped. This goes across all my blogs. I just… can’t. Sorry. @chiarosxuro @jaggededges @ursanavi
somftchilds:
The shift of metal was a strange noise at first, it was like listening to some huge ship made of metal moving against a dock. It wasn’t something she really…had ever heard. It was intimidating, making her shuffle a bit, slipping somewhat further into the boiler suit. At the comment about how they’d love her–the crewmates, she smiled a little. That would always be reassuring, nobody to hurt her, and if anything they could be dangerous but not towards her!
“ t the s safest… n no hurting.. t that’s good… ”
A soft murmur passed through her throat before she felt the little push on her head–was there someone there?? She hadn’t even noticed anyone or anything for that matter, no noises out of the ordinary!! Tilting her head upward, Galapagos let out a meek and quiet response to the action, heterochromic eyes bright and wide, especially in comparison to the inside of the submarine and lights reflecting from the bulbs across the halls’ ceiling.
“ d did you s see someone?? is t there something b bad in here t that wouldn’t w want me h here?? ”
The little goat-like creature was really asking questions that made it difficult for Bepo to keep away from the topic of Law and how he'd react to having a child aboard the ship. He grimaced, giving a quick shake of his head as he continued twisting through the halls, keeping his footfalls as light as a massive polar bear mink could, which in reality, wasn't anywhere close to quiet. ❝ There... ❞ Bepo sighed in defeat, one paw kept securely on Gala's head while the other kept her cradled against his chest. ❝ Captain might not be too fond of me bringing you on board... ❞ Darting around another corner, then down another level into the depths of the Tang, Bepo seemed to relax slightly. At least now they were on the bunk floor. A couple more doors and he'd be home free. Luckily, it seemed most of the crew were either on duty, or still perusing what the island had to offer, leaving the halls practically empty. They only had a close call twice, which he just managed to avoid in the nick of time. He hoped and prayed Law was doing the same, out on one of his 'secret' missions or something. That would be the best thing for them right now. ❝ But don't worry! He won't harm you... hopefully... ❞
afailedkingsheart:
He paused for a moment, the smile on his face fading as he was so easily read. So typical that he could never get away with even a simple lie. Sucking in his cheeks he stared down at the rim of the shut door. Hesitation gripping him tight even with hands raised ready to sign that nothing was a miss at all. Bepo was just a snuggle baby, how could he even comprehend how he was feeling when deep down it was killing him.
Pursed lips tightened as he dropped his hands, holding them together in his lap. He was sure Law had sent him, had to, right? He shook his head, looking up at the plush ball of fuzz.
/ I’m fine, really. /
Forcing back that soft smile, the kind he perfected to ease Law of any worries he had growing up. That parental smile that held back the burden of the world for the sake of love. He scooted back onto his cot, pressing his back against the cold metal. Taped photos of all the boys at varying ages and letter from Sengoku shifted out of the way. His fragile memories barely able to keep him together.
/ Please… Don’t tell Law. /
This time he couldn’t hold them back even as his smile remained the tears rolled down his cheeks wiping away the last remaining smudges of makeup, nothing but the burn of flushed skin and heavy eyes exposing him at his most vulnerable.
Another blatant lie. It normally took a lot for Bepo to become frustrated. Well... unless the situation involved Law and one of his self-destructive whims where he refused to see reason. Cora was quickly becoming a close second in the frustrating category. Lying in any capacity hadn't been a skill he acquired easily, still had a lot of troubles with it in all honesty, so trying to wrap his head around how simple it seemed to be for others was difficult. How hard could it be to just open up and allow others to help when you were hurting? Fluffy cheeks puffed out slightly, the only indication of Bepo's annoyance, which he doubted the taller man would be able to see from this distance. Hearing a crinkling, his eyes drifted to whatever shifted against the wall where Cora leaned up against it. Pictures, he noticed once he focused enough on the small square shapes. Most of them were of the original crew; Law, Shachi, Penguin and Bepo himself. Bepo liked to think that they were all like a little family, and it seemed that Cora might feel the same way if he had keepsakes like this hanging about in his room. The thought had some of his irritation melting away. Maybe if Bepo used some of the same tactics he used with Law he could get Cora to talk. It wouldn't hurt to try, at the very least. He made a point to ignore the fresh wash of tears that dripped freely down Cora's cheeks despite his warm smile and took a couple steps toward the bed. Plopping down onto the cold floor when he deemed he was close enough, Bepo let out a little huff, making it obvious that he wasn't about to just leave Cora to his own devices. If Cora was going to be stubborn, so was he. ❝ You see us as family, right? ❞ He asked softly after a short stretch of silence, bringing a hand up to point a clawed finger at the photos getting half crushed behind Cora's back. ❝ Family sticks together, and helps when one's in pain. Don't-... Stop lying about being fine. ❞ Pursing his lips again, Bepo looked directly into Cora's eyes, an uncharacteristic sternness in his expression. ❝ Please don't be like Captain. It's not good to let his stubbornness rub off on you... ❞

Heart Pirates Week 7
Bepo don’t like storms that much after being swept off Zunesha’s leg in his search for Zepo. Luckily enough his crew will make the best of it whenever a storm hits!

afailedkingsheart:
His heart leapt from his throat at the soft knocking. Bepo’s voice was heard clearly through the door as he fumbled in his panic, wiping the tears from his eyes and smearing the already faded makeup on his face. He was fine, everything was fine. Rolling off his cot, his foot caught in the tangles of his blanket and he fell hard to the metal floor. A loud bang and muffled huffs echoed his room before he cracked the door ajar, hoping the bear was alone and Law hadn’t accompanied him.
A heavy sigh escaped his lips but was quickly covered over by an arm, wiping away at his face before straightening out his posture. He opened the heavy door to confront Bepo as a sheepish grin grew on his tired face.
/ Bepo! Sorry! You caught me at quite a moment! Dozed off and spilt water all over myself! /
Rubbing the back of his neck embarrassed by his false antics, he invited the bear into his room by opening the tanker door fully and moving about as if he had just merely woken up. leaning over and grabbing the blanket that had tripped him and tossing it back onto his cot, he took a seat at its edge. Rubbing at his eye to try and stop the welling of tears that continued to threaten to fall, he gestured for him to step inside.
/ How can I help our navigator! /
He could feel the trembling in his hands as he signed, consciously trying his best to keep them firm and quick. It was so rare he saw Bepo not at Law’s side that it was almost strange and in ways suspicious to find him alone and checking in on him like this. He always assumed the little bear was too anxious to be alone or didn’t know how to be. He was a baby after all.
The moment Cora opened his quarters' door Bepo knew something wasn't right. He paid close attention to the signs he was being given by the taller man, eyebrow furrowing at the explanation given about his unkempt appearance. A lie. Bepo could smell the salty tang of tears. It wasn't water that smudged his now almost nonexistent makeup. Still, he didn't say anything right away to contradict what Cora told him, and simply followed him into the room, the worry solidifying like a chunk of ice in his gut. The heavy door fell shut behind him with a resounding bang, causing him to jump slightly despite knowing it was coming since either of them didn't catch it in time. Bepo looked over his shoulder to stare at it for a split second before returning his attention back to Cora, carefully taking in his demeanor. He chewed gently on the inside of his cheek as he thought over how to word his concerns, paws curling into fists at his sides. ❝ I... ❞ Bepo hummed in discomfort, not used to being alone with Cora. He had to admit he was still a little apprehensive around him, even after all these years of being essentially raised by him. He just couldn't help it, not with the knowledge he had of the man. Eyes fell to Cora's hands where he could see them trembling despite the dim lighting in the room, and it pushed him to continue talking. ❝ I know something's wrong, Cora... You never miss a chance to hang out with the crew, and you've been crying... ❞ Bringing a paw up, he gently tapped at his nose to emphasize how he knew that, as if Cora wouldn't already know. The man wasn't an idiot. Clumsy, yes, but not stupid. Bepo then took a deep breath to ease the tension and steady himself. ❝ You can talk to me about it, whatever's bothering you. I know we're not close like you are with Captain, but I'm here... and if you don't want Captain knowing, I won't tell him. But I'm worried about you. ❞

ikkaku-of-heart:
Despite her giving him a completely guilt-free chance to go on with his night and not waste his time on her, Bepo seemed quietly determined to extend his own form of comfort. Hell, he’d even offered to stay with her, something she found she genuinely wanted.
“A shower sounds good,” she confessed.Ikkaku had been a bit leery of using the communal showers during the day – Law had assured her that none of his crew would peep on her or anything, but, well, it was hard not to feel a little paranoid about it. Still, it was past midnight now; the only guys who would be awake would likely be on watch. If she was going to shower, this would be the time. “And…yeah. Yeah I’d like you to stay the night. I—thank you.”
She glanced over her shoulder at her quarters, still sparsely-decorated, and particularly the bed that looked like a tornado hit. Apparently she’d been thrashing in her sleep. She hoped she wouldn’t be so active while Bepo was there. “I’ll leave the door open while you grab whatever blankets or pillows you might need. Promise I won’t be too long.”
Quickly and efficiently she grabbed her meager supplies—lavender soap, a towel, clean pajamas, and a loofah—before dashing off to the showers. Even if she were alone, she wouldn’t take long. She just needed to wash off the sweat. If Bepo was going to stick around, the last thing she wanted was to smell bad. Poor guy shouldn’t have to suffer all night because he was being nice.
The spray of hot water was a relief against her clammy skin, and she gave a little moan of happiness. It definitely helped soothe her mind and body, but she didn’t linger, instead setting to work lathering up. She had someone waiting on her, after all, and besides, she needed to be up bright and early for her first shift in the engine room. Ikkaku refused to let down her new captain, especially when he could easily just turn the ship around and dump her back on Joras’ grey, rocky shore.
Something about what Bepo had said bothered her, though. Who else on the ship had nightmares? The guys were pirates! They should be tough as nails!
Then again, so was Gramps, but that didn’t mean he didn’t still have the occasional nightmare. So, perhaps she shouldn’t judge. She wouldn’t ask, either; it wasn’t her business unless she found them asleep or something.
Shaking her head, Ikkaku rinsed the last of the soap and sweat off before drying off, hoping she hadn’t made Bepo wait too long. Poor bear was probably tired and wanted to get back to sleep. And he was the navigator, so he needed rest more than most. Dressing and practically sprinting back to her room, she bit her lip, wishing she wasn’t such a burden on her new crewmates already.
Bepo watched in relative silence as Ikkaku went about grabbing her washing supplies then made for the showers. He took a quick peek into her room, eying the mess of blankets on the bed which only caused his frown to deepen, before he ventured off toward the galley. She said he could grab his own blankets if he wanted, but he had other things he felt he needed to do. It was still early enough in the night that the designated cook for the day wasn't up to prepare breakfast, so he had the kitchen to himself. He still took extreme care as he went about preparing a cup of tea for his new crewmate, his bigger bulk and rather clumsy hands making the task a little more difficult than normal, but he made do. One of the good things about having fur over the majority of his body was he could hold the steaming mug without much issue. Hopefully Ikkaku liked tea... Just as he was returning to her quarters, Ikkaku was also coming back from her shower. Bepo had to admit, she appeared to be doing a little better. The haunted look in her eyes had dissipated, which was a good sign. He graced her with a small smile, black lips pulling back slightly over sharp teeth, but the expression looked more goofy than menacing. Eyes dropped to the mug grasped between his paws, which he tentatively help out to the curly haired woman, a sheepish look coming over his features. ❝ I... made you some tea. I don't know if you like it or not, but I've been told it helps calm people down, so figured you could use it... ❞ Claws gently tapped against the porcelain before he huffed. Bepo could feel his cheeks burning, clearly embarrassed, and he thanked the heavens above for his natural covering of fur to hide that aspect from the woman in front of him. His next words came out in a rush. ❝ I'm sorry I didn't ask first. I can throw it out if you don't want it, too. It's not a big deal. ❞
medicus-mortem:
Hand drops to his side, smirk fading with Bepo’s observation and follow up question. Law knew that was coming. Should have figured his zeal for this wouldn’t drag the mink into his plan. This is too out of character for him, too against everything he believes in, and sure the idea of serving the World Government makes him sick and feels like a betrayal to the memory of Flevance, but this is so much more than that. This is everything he has been working towards and it will not be stopped by his pride.
“They have something I need,” Law explains, both hands coming together. He taps his thumbs, head lowering to shadow his eyes with his hat. “The last piece of the puzzle, the thing that will make all of this worth it. I’m too famous now to just infiltrate the Marines. This is my ticket in. … The only way.”
Jaw goes tight, the Hearts Captain unwilling to explain anymore than that. He’s kept his true intentions secret for far too long to let them out now, but Bepo makes this difficult. He’s far more in tune to Law’s thought processes than anyone. He may never quite get a full grasp on what goes through his head but he always comes closer than anyone else. Perhaps it is how empathetic he is, or maybe the fact that Law can’t help but be truthful with him. Whatever it is Law once again finds himself in that dangerous position where Bepo is inching way too close to the truth.
He certainly hits the nail on the head with that last question. This has nothing to do with the One Piece, none of it ever has. Law couldn’t care less for that treasure. It isn’t what he wants, never has been. The Hearts just made assumptions he never bothered to correct. Maybe it is time he ends this before he says something that might jeopardise everything.
“I can’t lie to you Bepo,” Law says, turning his back on his friend. Again he picks up the clipboard and the pen, his attention focused on completing his current task. A few more words, an end to the conversation. “So I won’t.”
Law's words only seemed to confuse Bepo further, and it definitely wasn't the answer he was looking, or hoping, for. Not surprising with his Captain, though, giving a roundabout answer without actually answering. He couldn't deny that it kind of hurt that Law still felt the need to hide things from him despite how much they've been through together, someone who he saw as a best friend. His person. Something close to a whispered apology rushed from him while he hung his head in defeat, that dismissive tone essentially ending the conversation. He knew he wasn't going to get anything more out of Law, not right now anyway. Didn't mean he was just going to let it go and not come back to it. They were getting very close to the climax of something big, Bepo could feel it, and despite how much he hated drilling Law, they all deserved to know what was going on. If it wasn't Bepo badgering him, it was going to be one of the others, and he could already imagine the arguments that would ensue if that happened. Better him than say, Ikkaku, or Penguin. Wiping his paws down the front of his boiler suit to rid his palms of sweat that wasn't there, Bepo sauntered back up to Law's side, resolved to continue helping him with the inventory count if he needed it. He looked over his shoulder to read what was left to go through on the list. Black eyes trailed down the vast amount of numbers, check marks and small notes jotted down that he couldn't really make out because of Law's atrocious handwriting. Honestly, sometimes he thought his own writing was better. ❝ What's left to go through? ❞ Bepo tentatively asked, deciding to try and steer the conversation away from whatever it was Law was so reluctant to tell him. He could only deal with Law being in a mood for so long.
✉ @polarurchin said: " Hey Bepo, ya ever seen an octopus punch a fish?" He is actually going to ask this to every Heart, and no he isn't high.
Bepo stared at his friend for a long moment, allowing his question to roll around in his mind before nonexistent eyebrows pinched together. He was probably thinking way too deep into the question, knowing it was probably some type of joke. His crewmates had a tendency to pick on him. Crossing his arms over his chest, he lifted one hand up to rub at his chin, gears visibly turning. ❝ Ah, well... no. Octopi don't really... have fists to punch with. So wouldn't they just be slapping the fish with their tentacles instead? ❞ Bepo mused with a hum, black eyes returning to Uni after having drifted off to the side while he thought.

@ursanavi Sergei Rachmaninov - Moment musicaux No.3, Andante cantabile in B minor
❧ Would there ever be a moment to himself where it didn’t feel as though his heart ached with the years of regret and the self loathing that would catch him every now and then as a reminder to who he really was. A mistake. He had been doing so well, keeping the demons off his back, surrounding himself with those who loved him and cared so deeply for him. So why now, why this feeling that threatened to engulf him in its suffocating grip.
Tears blurred his vision as he curled up on his cot, fingers buried in his messy curls as he tried to hide himself. Hide himself away from those intrusive thoughts, those constant reminders. Makeup smeared across his face as he desperately attempted to wiped away the pain. Reminding himself of the better times, but they refused to stop. Body shivering from his cold reality.
His breath hitched as he softly sniffled, covering his mouth with his arm to prevent any further sounds. No one was allowed to see him like this. At his lowest point. He was every ones beaming sunshine, he wanted to be their warmth and light. But even the sun had to set everyday.
The dim red light of his cramped private quarters made the world feel as if he was drowning. His nest decorated with the photos of his cherished life were blacked out in the darkness. Images of gentle love faded in the red. This rose tinted room flooding with the waters that surrounded the Polar Tang. Feeling the weight of the water column he couldn’t hang on any longer. He couldn’t even bring himself to encase his sorrows in Silence as his world collapsed. Gasping and aching from his internal torment.
Activities on the Polar Tang were often an entire crew event, especially when they were games of any sort. Even the more stoic members of the crew would eventually cave and join in, Law included, unable to ignore the excitement for long. It was enjoyable, a good way to destress after missions where they could all just goof off and be themselves without the potential worry of anyone being harmed. Well... unless someone got rowdy, but that was different. Currently, the majority of the Hearts were crowded into the rec room, huddled over the main table. They were all engrossed in playing some card game that Bepo could never really get the hang of, but his crewmates made sure he felt included in anyway, regardless of if he still lost almost every round. During one of said rounds, where he lost earlier than usual, was when he noticed they were missing a certain crewmate. Bepo found it strange that no one else seemed to realize Cora was missing, seeing as he was almost always the center of attention during game nights. Frowning, black eyes scanned over the mass of bodies one more time, nose twitching as he double checked to see if he may have missed him. Sure, enough, that distinct scent that clung to Cora never reached his nose, and the taller man was nowhere to be seen. Unease settled in the pit of Bepo's stomach, and after wringing his paws together a few times as he thought about what to do, he quietly excused himself from the table, to which no one really paid much attention. Law caught his eye for a split second, but just nodded at him before returning his gaze to the game, and then Bepo slipped away. As he made his way through the narrow halls, making sure to check every possible room he could think that Cora may have been, the unease evolved into worry. It wasn't like him to miss out on game nights. Something was wrong, Bepo was sure of it. Maybe he was sick, and just didn't want to bother Law with it. Wouldn't be the first crewmate to hide an illness from their Captain. Soon, after letting his feet move on autopilot, Bepo found himself in front of Cora's room, having had no luck finding him anywhere else in the sub. He could sense the other man inside, along with something he couldn't quite place his finger on. It was something he felt a few times before, but from Law instead. A deep feeling of sadness that wasn't his own, and the frown on his features only deepened. Reaching up, he timidly rapped his paw against the metal door, unsure if it would be alright for him to just barge into the other's quarters unannounced. ❝ C-cora...? ❞ Bepo asked softly, making sure his voice was loud enough to travel. ❝ Are you okay? ...You're missing game night. ❞

ikkaku-of-heart:
It took her several too-long moments to recognize her new crewmate. To realize that she was looking at Bepo the navigator, not the beast that had hunted and slaughtered her Gramps’ men. Who’d left a scar so deep and ugly it was still visible on his chest nearly fifty years later.
The warm hand on her shoulder helped. Because despite the fur, it was indeed a hand offering comfort, not a massive claw swiping out trying to rip open her chest.
“I…fuck, I’m so sorry, Bepo,” she whimpered, feeling guilty. The mink had been nothing but sweet and kind since she’d joined the crew, and here she was mistaking him for a monster for the second time. “I just…nightmare. There was…something my Gramps fought was after me.”
Saying it out loud somehow made her feel worse, and her stomach twisted painfully. There was nothing to be afraid of. Not of Bepo, and not even the beast itself. Yes, it had been monstrous, but as she’d gotten older, she’d realized it was more tragic than demonic. Had anyone bothered to show it even a shred of kindness, perhaps it wouldn’t have become the terror it died as.
Hell, perhaps it would have become more like Bepo – a big, sweet teddy bear who was nice enough to check on a newbie engineer even though they hadn’t gotten off on the best foot.
Old Ones, she didn’t deserve his kindness or concern.
Ikkaku wrapped her arms around herself as she began to shiver, the sweat on her skin suddenly making her cold. For a moment, she considered snuggling against Bepo’s warm-looking fur like she would Neptune, but resisted. Not out of fear, but because she wasn’t sure if he’d be ok with her treating him like a giant, heated plushie. So she settled for forcing an awkward smile. “Didn’t mean to scream at you. Or wake you if I did. Guess I’m just…not adjusting as easily as expected. Too used to having a big dog sleeping on top of me. But I’ll be fine. What kinda pirate needs an animal to cuddle with to fall asleep, right?” she tried to joke reassuringly, though she was positive it wasn’t particularly convincing.
Bepo felt when Ikkaku started shivering under his paw, which only caused the concerned frown on his features to deepen. Was the shivering because of her fear of him, or because of the cooling perspiration he could smell coating her skin. He didn't want to make the wrong assumption and potentially make it worse. It put him in something of a pickle, standing awkwardly still in the threshold of Ikkaku's sleeping quarters. Her confirmation of having a nightmare at least made him feel a little better. Having dealt with Law's near constant night terrors, and the occasional ones from the rest of his crew, he at least knew what he could do to help with those. Giving his head a shake, Bepo then turned his attention to down the hall, sifting through some of the things he knew helped his crewmates in situations like this that didn't involve him promptly snuggling into bed with them. Ikkaku obviously wouldn't be opposed to that, or at least he thought so, considering she just confessed to sleeping with other animals back home, but he wasn't sure if suggesting that at this very moment would be the smart move. ❝ Did you want to go take a warm shower? ❞ He suddenly asked, not looking back to the newbie, but he still kept his grip on her shoulder. ❝ Once you've warmed up a little, and washed off all the sweat... maybe I could stay with you for the night? If... if you want. A lot of the guys use me to help them sleep after they've had nightmares... so it's not weird... at least I don't think so... ❞ Bepo muttered the last part, words barely even audible to his own ears. If he wasn't covered in thick white fur, there would definitely be a blush creeping along his cheeks.
Bepo: I’d better warn you: I have no compassion, sympathy, or pity. That’s because I’m a bear.
