The interaction in my head now:

the ending was actually perfect because Elisabeta followed Vlad into death. I know it’s meant to be ambiguous, but the choice not to show Elisabeta/Mina was intentional.

She literally says to Vlad before he makes what seems to be an incredibly rash decision,

“But you’re my freedom- you’re my freedom. Wherever you go, I go.”

But just know that Shea isn’t mentioned once. So if you were hoping for that little loose end to finally be tied, prepare to be as disappointed as I am.

My biggest complaint is that half the book is straight up just exposition for the prequels. I don’t think I would’ve minded as much if I’d listened to it on audible or something, but reading nearly 2,000 pages of shit I’ve already read?… yeah, no.

I will say, the book ended on a pretty f’d up cliffhanger, so maybe that’s why I’m so pissed… or maybe it’s because I have more questions, despite my previous questions still going unanswered, I don’t know.

I still enjoyed it, however, just… I’m very sad. The ending was a straight up gut punch for me.

(A Court of Wings and Ruin, Two Years Before The Wall: Rhysand—

If Rhysand is your “Shadow-Daddy,” look away now- right now, because this is the part where I question Rhysand’s motives 💀

Before I get 💩 for this, (if you’re still here) just know that I used to think Rhysand was “the villain.” However, I’m starting to believe Rhys may have some debts that need to be paid off; perhaps some unfulfilled bargain(s) from the past coming back to haunt him…

So the Cauldron was tainted at some point and wicked things were “forged,” but it was eventually stolen back “at great cost.”

I doubt the price was Rhysand’s knee, but the direction my mind is going makes this tongue-in-cheek “secret” all the more hilarious.

He tries bargaining Feyre’s bones, but even the Bone Carver knows Rhys isn’t that heartless.

However, you wanna know just how heartless Rhysand is at this point in the story?… (besides the hundred examples I don’t have time to list atm)

Yes, that’s right—Rhysand’s goal is to find and nullify the Cauldron, knowing very well that the act will kill Feyre in the process. That “devastation” on Rhys’s face is guilt.

Feyre almost puts two and two together, (but she’s an idiot in lust)—

• Rhysand’s potential motives and suspicious capture—

Rhysand was rivaling his predecessor to take over even before the war… and allied himself with two of the most powerful Illyrians to do it

Rhys’s father realized what he was doing and separated them to try to stop it… and he was captured.

Although it’s implied Amarantha led to Rhys’s capture, his father seems a more likely suspect.

Rhysand was controlling Amarantha while Under The Mountain and the answer to the riddle actually broke Amarantha’s curse instead. Her plea to Tamlin was for a swift death, knowing the kind of torture Rhysand was capable of.

The end.

I sympathize with her. We have an understanding of what heartmates are through Poppy and Cas, seeing exactly the lengths they’d go to in order to protect one another, (aside from that one time Poppy literally stabbed Cas in the heart, but that’s besides the point)

Anyway, it’s hard for me to see the way those two are with one another and then turn around and demonize Isbeth’s actions because honestly… if Poppy hadn’t witnessed a physical manifestation of what could become of her in the same situation, there’s really no reason to assume Poppy wouldn’t do exactly what Isbeth had done, right?

Poppy has always empathized with others, but when it comes to heartmates, we know logic is irrelevant.

The only difference really is that Poppy would actually regret her actions whereas Isbeth obviously did not—but then again, Isbeth didn’t just lose a heartmate, she also lost their son.

By the end of “ACOGB,” I was honestly on the verge of tears as Isbeth told the story of what had happened to her. I couldn’t help but to think of Poppy and Cas. I really don’t think Poppy would let her vengeance carry on as long as Isbeth’s or even attempt the same cruelty—however, Casteel? Yes. I absolutely think he would.

Cas didn’t hold Mr. Tulis’ wife and child accountable for harming Poppy because, obviously, his family had nothing to do with his actions.

But if Poppy had actually been killed?…

I’m not so sure Cas would’ve been as just—I genuinely think he would’ve let his grief topple over and slaughter the entire Tulis family, to be honest.

It doesn’t excuse Isbeth’s behavior at all, but it does humanize her, (at least, for me.)

Publicly speaking out against the war in 1967, King experienced major pushback leading to a loss in donors and sponsors. One year following his assassination, (April 4, 1968) the world seemed in agreement with King and took to the streets of Washington, “1-9-6-9” (Nov 15, 1969) to demonstrate King’s teachings in a peaceful march.

People have speculated “1-9-6-3” to be in reference to JFK’s assassination, (that some argue caused a set back in the civil rights movement) however, I personally speculate “1-9-6-3” to be the march on Washington, (Aug 28, 1963) where King’s infamous “I Have A Dream,” speech had taken place.

King was a true and tactful leader that unified people against an establishment that (to this day) continues to keep its citizens divided.

King understood the complexities of the power structure; how cheap labor spawned poverty and frustrations; how an inferiority complex (in)bred white supremacy. He understood that those in power would do anything to keep their power at the expense of its own citizens and the only way to dismantle the system is to overthrow it with unity.

King understood the entanglement of foreign and domestic policy, and until it’s collectively recognized the cycle of suffering and oppression will continue.

This song is still relevant—it’s a call to action just as it is a call for unity. The subtlety of the lyrics can be interpreted in various ways; however, in the great words of Dr Martin Luther King Jr himself, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

If you had kids, would you want them to be musicians?

His heart’s in the right place; he knows what he’s talking about, (despite being vague about it.)

I guess I just assumed he was a little more radicalized than he actually is, considering the works of journalists/professors/authors he follows.

I know it’s hard to accept; I know it hurts—but Bernie sold out.

“Francesca” is about the demise of a relationship caused by a miscarriage—hear me out…

Hozier: “When this song came around, it started from personal experience and then I allowed those themes and some of the imagery from that character (Francesca da Rimini) in and then let the two mix. It’s an example of letting the song have a life above ground and resonate with a life below ground in regard to that character.”

Taking inspiration from real life figures, Dante’s Divine Comedy reimagines an adulterous pair in the second circle of hell: Lust.

Hozier paints a tragically beautiful image—stuck in a typhoon for all of eternity alongside the person you’d give your life for.

In Dante’s Divine Comedy, Francesca blames love for her agent of sin. Francesca's persuasive power derives from her language, which echoes that of love poetry, especially from Dante's early poems. In this way, Francesca becomes a reflection of Dante himself; much like Hozier portraying Francesca’s convictions of love as his own.

On the surface, this beautiful song is simply a testament of love to a lover lost. That despite all of the trials and tribulations that led to their demise, he would do it all over again without second thought.

But just beyond the surface of Hozier’s brilliant reimagining, is a looming darkness I can’t shake.

“Do you think I’d give up?

That this might’ve shook the love from me?

Or that I was on the brink?

How could you think, darlin, I’d scare so easily?”

• The narrator professes that he is fearless to the circumstance they are faced with—that his love for her will always overcome any hardship, including this one

“Now that it’s done,

There’s not one thing that I would change,

My life was a storm, since I was born

How could I fear any hurricane?

If someone asked me at the end,

I’d tell them put me back in it”

• Although this is not something the narrator and his lover planned for, he’s prepared to endure this difficulty alongside her—admitting he has no regrets

If I could hold you for a minute

I’d go through it again

I would still be surprised,

I could find you, darlin, in any life

If I could hold you for a minute

Darlin, I would do it again”

• The narrator expresses to his lover that he would experience the hardship of that moment all over again; because she was there to experience it with him

“For all that was said,

Of where we’d end up at the end of it

When the heart would cease,

Ours never knew peace

What good would it be on the far side of things?”

• The narrator reflects on the future plans they’d made together. He goes on to state, ‘when the heart would cease, ours never knew peace,’ indicating that the loss of life had caused unsettling turmoil within the relationship—questioning where they would be if the loss had not happened

“It was too soon,

When that part of you was ripped away

A grip taking hold,

Like a cancer that grows,

Each piece of your body that it takes”

• The life they lost took a piece of the narrator’s lover with it, which ultimately leads to her resenting him for it

“Though I know my heart would break,

I’d tell them put me back in it”

• Despite the pain of her resentment, he would still do it over again, (which is a common response to a trauma bond)

“I would not change it each time,

Heaven is not fit to house a love like you and I”

• The relationship was difficult and messy; it was a far stretch from paradise. But he wouldn’t change a thing about it because of the love he felt for her, and because of the life they almost had together

Just a song interpretation/theory that gives this beautiful piece a higher power for me
