Commenting fanfiction is the easiest thing in the world once you start doing it.Ā
I leave a comment on every single fic I read. Sometimes when I read published books I go and leave a comment somewhere the author can find it. Granted, I literally majored inĀ āleaving comments on ficsā (English Education), but once you start doing it it just becomes second nature. Now youāre gonna go to the Ozymandias school of leaving comments:Ā
Problem: I canāt leave kudos again.
Beginner: This is a second/third/fourth Kudos
Advanced: This is my second/third/fortieth time reading this, I still love it so much. Here are a few new things I noticed. I like the way you personally do x, y, z compared to other authors Iāve read (in this ship/genre/fandom).
Problem: I donāt know what to say :(
Beginner: Just list what you did to read this fic.Ā āI stayed up late reading thisā,Ā āI read this on a crowded trainā,Ā āthis kept me company while sickā.Ā
Advanced: X,Y,Z parts made me get butterflies, and I had a physical reaction to this part of the story, I squealed outloud when characters did x,y,z. I blushed at this part. I laughed out loud here. Whatever.Ā
Problem: Iām embarrassed to leave a comment (what if I annoy the author?)
Beginner: Short answer: you wonāt EVER annoy the author (unless youāre needlessly mean) But to start, be generic, you donāt have to spill your soul in the comments section.Ā āI liked thisāĀ āI enjoyed reading thisāĀ ānice ficā.
Advanced: This really meant a lot to me that you wrote this. This is something I feel like Iāve always wanted to read. This fic hit me in all the right places. Etc.Ā
Problem: I donāt know how to express myself/my experienceĀ
Beginner: My beginners go to is to highlight a line, put that in your comment and sayĀ āi liked thisā or to identify basic emotions you had while reading and comment thoseĀ āthis made me happyāĀ āthis part made me sadāĀ āi almost criedāĀ āyou made me laughāĀ Advanced: āHighlighted lineā This line made me smile because it has to do with character development/itās really romantic/itās so unique/itās moving. Sometimes I donāt highlight a line at all, I just talk about the stuff Iāve noticed were unique to the fic.Ā āI love the way you did this particular thing with this characterā.Ā
This? This is an amazing post. This is the Captain Awkward of commenting postsāit addresses all your fears directly and gives you actionable scripts for each one.
yeah i canāt speak for others but if you Cannot Words but want to comment on my fic, finding a bit you really liked, copypasting it into the comment window, and labeling it something like āwowā or ābestā or āthisā or w/e goes a really long way
I use chains of <3<3<3<3<3<3 or heart emojis when I canāt make words work but want to show my appreciation
The characters and fandoms I enjoy writing change often, so Iām organizing it by what Iām experienced with (what Iāve written before) and what Iām interested in (what I havenāt written, but would like to).

i. 18+ only. Iām 30 years old and really donāt feel comfortable writing with anyone underage, even if itās generic non-relationship stuff.
ii. I write in present tense. Iād appreciate a matching tense. Makes re-reading our stuff much easier, and Iād love to go back and read the stories weāll create together.
iii. Iām a selective writer. I put thought into my responses, how my character moves, how they respond emotionally to your character, the immediate setting, the world weāve made for them. That said, I understand tired days and donāt expect anyone to write at 100% all the time. Thatās why I enjoy flash responses (a couple sentences) or dialogue-only scenes (texting). Sometimes, Iām ready to dig into the rough stuff to write, and sometimes I need an easier scene thatās less stressful and time consuming. You can always tell me if you need a break, or just want to write something a little easier or lighthearted. Fuck knows I need it half the time, too.
iv. Iām a discord roleplayer. Itās convenient, fast, and we can even make our own server to organize different characters and stories if we click. I will not be roleplaying on this Tumblr. PM me for my Discord if youāre interested in writing with me, Iād love to chat. ā„
v. For explicit content, I prefer a slow burn. Iād rather write several scenes and see where the chemistry leads. Your characterĀ ābeing sexyā towards mine doesnāt often lead to sexiness happening between them (and vice versa). That said, we can plot just about anything, and if explicit scenes fit well into a story idea (sex pollen trope, sirens,Ā āmarkingā for protection, etc.) then hell yeah bring it on. Basically, if our characters get intimate, I just want it to make sense within the story, and not feel like weāre smooshing two dolls together. vi. Another note on explicit content: Iām fine writing it out. Iām also fine fading to black and just having the implication. Never, never, never feel pressured to write something you donāt want to write.
vii. Relationships and pairings: as long as itās consensual, anything goes. I prefer m/m, but I can write m/f if the chemistry is right. Iām comfortable with just about anything (incest, dubcon, enemies to lovers, etc.) as long as the relationship is, at its core, consensual.
viii. Iāll write more when I think of something else.

sample - intro - jericho mccarthy
The worst part about being mostly human is definitely the bones. They're just so frail. Easily broken. Take forever to mend. Really, evolution didn't do too hot of a job on humans in general, but it could have at least given them a base structure that wasn't prone to snapping at the slightest bit of pressure.
Or a thirty story fall from a high speed hover car charging down an elevated highway on an unfamiliar planet.
But who's keeping track, right?
